Excellent panning shots, I can imagine how heavy the camera would be if you were using the 70-200, you have the 2.8 yea? With panning, do you lock focus on the subject or can you let the camera track it while your moving? I must go back to an old thread about panning (might have been a challenge) I'm sure I took some at the park one day that were passable, no where near this standard though.

Great Job, I don't think it looks overdone at all.

That's a great shot, I definatley know Tullys not as fast as a whippet, she played data nd mouse with one at the park one day, she did a great job of keeping close but the whipped was always a few steps ahead. Although I suspect they run a lot faster when chasing the lure! About this shot, if the dog is frozen and the ground is moving is that because you were moving the camera too? Is that a panning shot?

Great job, before they had content aware fill in PS I use to clone out the odd thing but it always looked aweful. Actually i dont think content aware fill wouldn't work with a picture like this as you have to select the area just around the thing you want to remove and it blends the background. I haven't got the patience to do stuff like this.

It's not HDR, my HDR effort failed big time. This was just one shot I added a preset to it in LR, it was a HDR effect one.

Yes I am wondering if the 3kg option might be better just incase? I think my lot will be fine, they have guts of steel. but you never know!
-
Not a Portrait but I liked this one, I tried HDR but I failed miserably.

Whoops, I cant see him, is he sitting down?

 whoops, I had lots that looked like that today! Looks like there is some fast tail action going on there!

Lovely Huga, they are so much like you especially the little fella, growing up so quickly!
-
Ok got it! You should see my white girl run, she is lightning fast! She is defintley not your average pet dog. Think she might have been a whippet in a former life.

Thanks again for the advice, Snook so basically your saying if the iso is higher then the shutter speed will be faster yea? So If I stay in Aperture priority and play with the iso then the shutter speed should adjust accordingly.
-
Thanks Annie, I wasn't sure about putting it up much higher than 400 as the sky was so white and whishy washy especially where they were jumping, so I thought it might completely blow it out and look funny, next time I go I will experiment a lot more. Jo I think your right, I just wanna get the look I want then I can aim for composition!

Actually looking at it now compared to the others its a wonder he was in focus at all. I went back and checked the exif, and it was definaltey 1/200 and looking at the pictures each side of this one they are only good for the scrap heap so it must have been a fluke!
-
Thanks Lolli, I liked that one too, again a faster shutter speed than the first one at 1/1250 and its not as busy in the back ground. ISO 100 and f/4 and the 70mm end of the lens. I cropped it a bit too, the very next photo was this, he looks like he is on a mission!
-
at the 70mm end, also it was cropped. f/5 1/200 iso 100 I like this next one, seems to be in focus, but a much higher shutter speed at 1/1600 f 3.5 iso 320 the lens was at 34mm in this shot.

You have been a great help! You still haunt told me what you think of this lot? ok? or not? Passable?
-
Has anyone tried their dogs on the chicken and rice yet? I know its early day, just wondering. I will get a bag when my current lot runs out but it won't be for another couple of weeks.

Hey Guys, just thought I'd pop some pics in here, we went to the park today and I had a good go with the 7D although it was cold and over cast and started to rain we didn't spend a lot of time but I think for my first outing with the dogs the shots came out pretty good. I am getting on top of focusing which was my biggest thing. One thing I have noticed with canon is the colours I think are really great and very consistent, I shot all these in jpeg and hardly did anything to them in PP. If anyone has any CC feel free, I hope I will get better as time goes on, i do feel in the short time I have had the camera my pictures have improved already, now I just need the weather to get better and we will be set!! Perils of the local dog parked, its shard with the pony club!

lolli, thats such a lovely shot of your sister and your mum, they both look like lovely ladies! At the park today, I sneakily snapped this after the dogs said hello to this mans dogs and he went on his merry way. I'm not sure if it is PJ, it tells the story of a man walking his dogs but not much else.

Clear as a bell to me, great shot!!

Thanks, I am going out with the dogs today to have a proper play, so I think Ill see how I go and maybe do the update tonight and have another play tomorrow and see how it goes. The weather is pretty average here today and very overcast but I am dying to get out and shoot some action.

So I'm guessing you think it's a good idea to upgrade? Have you done it with any of your cameras? I've got the firmware upgrade on the Mac just have to put it on the camera now.
