I really love this shot, it looks fantastic! Are these pics going in your local camera club? We have a camera club here and I have been once but not sure I would fit in as they seemed to be a friendly but very clicky kind of group, its hard to come in on a close knit group like that and fit in. Good luck, let us know how you go!

Hi, I guess it depends on what type of entires the other contestants put into the comp? I think with competitions I like to look at the photo and see if it speaks to me and what I feel from it, Have you edited the pic at all, could you lighten the shadow a bit on the left of the dogs face and body, If you want me to be brutally honest to me its a picture of a dog on a red road and really doesn't make me feel anything, perhaps if you cropped and lightened the shadows. I only just said in another thread I wasn't good at CC but here I am. He certainly looks like a lovely dog, love his ears!

The first two pics have dissapeared? Is there any way you could climb a ladder and take the shot from above? With Toby in it? I liked the redness of the wheelbarrow in the first edit.

Crash away, were all learning something! Did you say you use aperture? I downloaded it and just couldn't get the hang of it. I have been using Light room and more recently having another crack at PS.

that was hard to watch, especially the lady shooting the ceremony, I was cringing with every shot especially when she had to change the card! In the end I actually liked her shot the best, I thought the boy with the tie was a tiny bit blurry or I dunno something just didn't work with it. I thougt they might have showed us some of the other shots they took. Pity it doesn't go for a bit longer.

 spidey senses! We were only just talking last night about people not wanting their photos taken, I said we (me and two of the guys love photography) need some people models to practice on! This was one of the ones I liked as soon as I saw it on the camera.
-
I am hopeless at photographing people, we went out last night to the greyhounds and I had a short lived go at taking a few of one race, of course being so far away I didn't have a hope and the shots were woeful to say the least! I am however impressed with the new camera, the pics I took inside mostly with the flash were great and I turned the flash off and snapped a few on manual with some success. ifs funny thought even though I take so many shots of the dogs, its what I enjoy the most, I guess thats silly otherwise I wouldn't take them. I find it a bit of a challenge to get them all together and all looking so if that happens I do have a feeling of accomplishment. I might post a few in here from last night and today to see what you guys think!

That would be great, I'd love to see some of your stuff. I've been having a crack at something different lately too, I always shoot animals/dogs Suprise Suprise! I took this for something different the other day. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151078067026844&l=27ec7571ab

Jo do you have any photos here on DOL, or don't you post here? Or I've been living under a rock and missed them. Thanks for all he help and useful tips! And thanks everyone for the feedback it's been great!
-
Thanks guys! I guess if I was a pro I'd be a bit put out about them using a pic of mine without any royalties but I'm only an amateur and would probly get a kick out of seeing my girl pop up somewhere for advertising or what ever, I guess it's a chance you take. Never In a million years did I think in submitting a photo of Cooper and Lacy to the pet section in the Herald Sun that they would end up plastered up next to Julia gillard and Tim Mattheson in another article in the HS 4 years later! What a shock that was!!
-
That's great can we see a pic? Attached of course!
-
Thanks for the feedback, I think I will definatley go with the B&W and still time to have a play with it.
-
Some minor changes
-
What would this mean exactly that they can use the picture wherever they like? Give me credit as the photographer yea? Is this a bad thing? I still keep looking at the B&W, Im playing in PS now and making a hack of it. all in the name of learning right! Jo the eye thing is hard! Ill put a reedited version up so you can see if Im doing it right!
-
The sizing thing is really wierd, I didn't shoot it in raw only jpg so it's not a huge file anyway, it says when uploading to use the best quality but then it says it can't be over 3mb so a bit of a contradiction there. I had a play in photoshop and then saved the file and it was 58mb not sure how that happened! I've done a bit with layers but it was ages ago I did a photography course and they touched on layers, but I have time to have a play so I'll do that. I have just got CS6 so thought I'd try to get back into photoshop and learn more. I do most things with LR. But as I mentioned in another thread the new CS6 has some great features, content aware fill and move are just amazing!

Teekay, I hadn't noticed that before, I think if I go back tot he first one and bump the contrast up slightly I might be able to get a bit more light in the eyes. Jo I'll have a go at the catch light and see what happenes. I think what's missing from the second one is Tullys face is kind of lost in the rest of the image as its all so much the same where as the first one seems to give her more character. I'm leaning towards the first one now. Do you guys think its good enough for a competition? Details of comp HERE
-
Thanks for the feedback, looking at the three together the third one is too orangish, Jo I'm not sure how do to do catchlight in the eyes, can I do that in photoshop? Whenever I try to add something like that it just ends up looking fake, I wanted to try and keep it as natural as possible. The first one is probly the closest to natural but I still like the B&W too.
-
Hi Guys, Id like to enter a photo into a competition, I've picked the photo but just not sure on which edit I like, Im leaning towards the B&W but just can't decide. The first edit The B&W The last edit Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Erny, I don't know if it's the same thing or not but my oldest (6) had this thing where he does a small amount of yellowish vomit, just a small bit of liquid about the size of a 50 cent piece. I was telling someone one day about it (can't for the life of me remember who) and they said well he must be hungry, which at the time i thought was odd as Cooper has always been the type of dog to be fussy with his food and getting him to eat had always been a battle. Mine usually only get fed their main meal of a night unless its a day where they are having a RMB or Chicken wing etc. So I started feeding Cooper part of his daily allowance in the morning, well my OH does when he gets up for work and what did I know, no more vomits at all, as soon as he started morning feeds the vomiting ceased all together which was really great. The other thing is if mine are ever a bit off colour I give around 7 days worth of inner health plus, one a day, the vet and the pharmacist both said it has the same reaction in dogs as it does in humans and if there is any upset in the gut it can help with neutralising it back to how it should be. I have to be careful with Cooper and his food if he has too much he brings it back up so its much better for him to have two feeds a day, also when he was younger I stopped giving him chicken frames as a day later he would bring up perfectly formed vertebrae from the chicken in a little pile. He can have wings and necks with no problem. Not sure this has been at all helpful just thought I'd add my 5c. The liquorice root article is very interesting!
