I loved my 50mm on the Nikon it was a 1.8. But I thnk my next one will be a 1.4 if I can extend the budget that far. lollipup, I think you will be kicking yourself with the kit lenses once you have a play with the 50mm it will barley leave your camera! Although in saying that I guess it depends what your shooting!

Did you end up getting body only? Is that why you want the 50m right away?

Before I had my first DSLR I had the Panasonic fz20 and then the fz50, I still have the fz50, they take fantastic photos. -
KTB, that video is just priceless! Why do they have to destroy the most expensive thing they can get their teeth on. Ringing and telling them to leave it was a stroke of genius! It would be good if the app to view had some sort of voice technology attached to it.

Not sure about setting up a video camera but there is a camera set up you can get that works with wifi in your house then you can view the dog or whatever you are filming while you are away from the property on an application on a smart phone. Read about them HERE Harvey Norman have them 2 for the price of one HERE From what I can tell these are not a recording device they just view the subject and you can see what it is seeing via your smart phone/tablet/computer etc. So if you don't have wifi or a device you can view on they would not be any good. I'd love one to check out what the doggies get up to while I am at work. If anyone has one of these id love to hear if they are worth it?

The x10 looks awesome, the x pro looks great as well but more $$ My very first digital was a fuji finepix, only 2 mp but gee it was a great little camera. I don't want to bother changing lenses etc :) That's what my big cameras are for. I want it because it shoots in RAW and has full manual controls. And, let's be honest, because it looks really cool  It does, Have you had a look at the G1X (Canon) its awesome! And a similar reason for me wanting it, easy to grab and go when I don't want to lug the big banger around. G1X Its funny because the G1X always reminds me of your tattoo. -
Awww schucks! Thanks

Don't be sorry!

I was sure I commented on this last night, I must be going mad. The water looks so still like glass, lovely shot Pers.

It sounds good, I'll have to google it and check it out. I'm still using a tripod I got years ago off eBay, which I love, it's not light either but I agree about them blowing over easily. I had a look, it looks great, mine looks like a dinosaur compared to that one.

Any of the canons in your price range would be great cameras. I have to disagree in part with Rozzie on the coolpix I have one and I hate it with a passion. At a stretch the photos outside are ok but inside they are aweful, worst money I ever spent. Now in saying that if you bought one of the expensive ones they might be better, mine cost around $300. Out of curiosity Rozzie do you have one? How is it? I've had a canon in the Ixus range it was awesome, finally died because imwas too hard on it. I currently have the Canon G1X but it's around $800. The one Pers mentioned is great and THIS is another one I have heard great things about. All canons compact range is HERE THIS is a fantastic camera as well, I know a couple of pros that have one of these in their kits. -
I like it, maybe a bit too bright, even with the presets you can back off the aspects you don't like with the sliders.

The water must have been super still, great shot!

Looks good, can you post the original for a comparison? I love the light in the black dogs eyes!

Lightroom is really easy. Once you start to edit photos and realise how awesome you can make them look you will become addicted!!
