  1. There is nothing stopping the vet from buying online also I would have thought. Look in the real world the "general public" are going to make savings where they can - they are not willing to pay extra because the business (whatever it is) has high "overheads". Thats just reality. Would you use bulk billing doctors and discount chemists where you can? I pay a higher price for professional services provided by my vet compared to some others in the area. I don't try and negotiate a lower fee. But I see no need for a markup of 50 - 100% on medications I really don't. You see no need because you do not understand the costs involved in running a Veterinary service. For each Vet a practice employs the monthly drug bill escalates at a frightening rate, but drugs have to kept in stock and many will sit on the shelves but still have to be there, you don't understand but without the markups we wouldn't have Vets in private practice. The Government doesn't have a health care system for pets we do not have bulk billing clinics. Rarely do Vets get fully paid for their time and knowledge, if phonecalls and over the counter chats were billed like legal practices do people would be even more shocked.
  2. This is not normal and I think a Vet visit is in order, I would call your Vet this evening.
  3. All complete dog foods will do this. I that agree the Holistic label is a marketing ploy, and in the true sense of the word a food cannot claim to be Holistic. I choose my foods by Ingredients and suitability according to my dogs needs, the marketing ploys used by manufacturers when naming their products mean nothing to me.
  4. Do you use a hydrobath? A squirt of QV oil or Alpha Keri Oil in the bath and no shampoo, lukewarm water, is very helpful for dogs that need freshening up,and old coat shifted, then dry with a HV dryer no heat.
  5. Everyone has their favourites, I like the Pupkus Force 4 Double Motor Dryer for coats like the Sibes and for partially drying the Poodles then my Beacon stand dryer for finishing the fluff drying on the Poodles.
  6. Divide his daily meal into 2 and feed half him morning and night, no need to change your routine of soaking just divide the portion and put some away for breakfast. Ora handful of any meat that he tolerates raw. It doesn't have to be difficult. I prepare several meals of VAN at a time and it goes in the fridge after soaking.
  7. My dogs are all taught to accept being dosed with tablets from day one, it is not a big deal to any of them, they do not find it unpleasant. Therefore no, I do not find it affects their recall.
  8. We were blessed to have a Boston in our lives for nearly 13 years, she was awesome with children and as tough as old boots. Would have another in a heartbeat. Do your research and find a Breeder you can have a good relationship with and be prepared to wait for the right pup. I am sure you will not regret it :D
  9. This dog doesn't need a new Vet it needs an owner who is prepared to work with a vet and sort out a suitable medication regime before it is too late.
  10. Post in General says they are not medicating the dog because they don't want the side effects.
  11. Pupkus have a range of dryers not just one including twin 2400 watt motors. :)
  12. With big coats it is really important to dry completely to the skin after bathing, swimming etc. Zero tolerance on fleas and ticks so there is no irritation from bites. Basically you need to avoid anything that causes them to scratch. The humidity and skin irritation prime breeding ground for the bacteria to flourish.
  13. I think it is criminal that dogs are simply destroyed for incidents like this without any investigation. To me it was not a dog attack, a kid sticking his head over a fence ...an excited dog jumping up and down who knows The parents of the child wanted no action taken....maybe there is something in that?? The owners put the dog down.. maybe they also have unrealistic views on dog behaviour. I am also not of the opinion that dogs should simply take what is dished out without retaliation, children can be terribly cruel often unintentionally and cause injury or pain, yet some feel it wrong for a dog to voice that??? I groomed a little dog recently that had several very tight small coloured hair elastics tightly on its limbs, hidden under the long curly coat cutting into the flesh. The dog had been avoiding the small child in the family and had growled when the child tried to climb onto the lounge next to it on a couple of occasions, the parents were very upset when I phoned them to tell them what I had found. That little dog very nearly was PTS earlier that week.
  14. I have had far greater success with keeping a hotspot dry rather than adding any lotions or potions that are moist but there you go. Whatever works best for you.
  15. I use Curash.. has always worked and with no need to shave the area.
  16. If you have previously had no problems with the same medication then it is unlikely to be the cause.
  17. The original Listerine does work for Hotspots, however it stings so be prepared for the reaction.
  18. Any A5 compatible clipper blade will fit the brands are endless
  19. The S/S combs are very good however you need a very well groomed out coat to use them. I haven't found the plastic combs to be of any use. If you are just starting out learning to clip your own dog and decide to use the actual blades instead of combs, go for F blades not skip tooth...so if you want a #4 use a #4F or whatever length you choose. The skip tooth blades make it very easy to cut your dog if you have no experience with them. I use snap on S/S combs every day they are very useful but the dogs are thoroughly groomed out and bathed and blow dried.
  20. Vinegar and water is quite effective if it is soil, pavers, gravel etc it does kill plants though so only good for unplanted or grassed areas.
  21. Snooza D1000 is tough I wouldn't have trusted my hoons with Jacks Bed. My D1000s are still totally intact, even destructo Lab hasn't worked his magic on them.
  22. Maybe you live in an area where there is a pocket of byb or puppy farmers churning out badly bred CKCS, the only common health issue with the CKCS that I see is obesity. I have a couple of clients with heart issues but they are in their teens.
  23. Good pig dogs rarely get killed by pigs, there are injuries at times yes but amongst the pro hunters not many deaths. Whilst I don't agree with the way the cowboys operate there are so many misconceptions about the whole deal that it irritates me.
  24. It is just what dogs do All my dogs will eat horse poo if they are around where the horses have been, also roo poo they love rolling in it too. You could try training them to leave it, but really there is nothing sinister about it.
  25. Pig hunters do not train their dogs to kill small children, the dogs find and hold pigs, they do not kill them so how do we get from that to being unsafe for the neighbours children. I have a dog that kills chooks does this equate to I have a dog that kills children?? Most hunting dogs have lovely laid back safe temperaments, many hunters have children, not many seem to be devoured by the dogs.
