C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Crisovar replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
and all you like, why should good breeders have to put up with being asked to jump through more hoops to be acknowledged as ethical and the cream of the crop when there are rules, regulations and COE already in place which if enforced in the first place would make this all unnecessary. It is like every years new wave of dog laws and restrictions, when we have perfectly good laws already in place that are not enforced. As far as every member joining to level the playing field, the only winner there will be Dogs Qld with the extra revenue. -

OK So given that some of those already accredited are ''bad'' - if everyone who wishes to continue as CCCQ breeders can and does become accredited it will be a case of everyone being accredited regardless if they're good or bad. The acceptance that accreditation = good is simply bizarre to me, especially given the apparent emphasis on self-testing/self-grading which seems so common in many of these accreditation schemes. Must be a cultural thing sandra i am really not trying to be difficult, i understand what you and oakway are saying BUT if the regulatory body has deemed that if a person or company has passed their accreditation standards then who is anyone outside of that system to say that there are "bad" people or companies in it? clearly, the regulatory body thinks and says that they have all reached a set standard. i am not saying any accreditation scheme or system is good or bad, just that when they are in place there are implications for all people or businesses in that particular sector and that they need to make a decision on how they are going to manage the new situation. i think it is too late to do much once an accreditation scheme is in place and people are willingly joining it Some people will flock to anything they think may make them look good or better than their peers, others may just suck it and see, others disagree with it for reasons stated here over and over. Who are you to say who is correct. There are breeders already accredited who have ethics and standards that would draw the mobs baying for blood here, yet you say if Dogs Qld says they are ok then that's ok -
I find it a bit disgusting actually but I dont have that much time for a lot of vets.Last time I took a dog in for snake bite it was also a sunday afternoon.they told me it may not work etc...They never asked me for any payment up front.this is not a vet I use or would use again as they caused my dogs death but thats another story. They charged me $900 and I paid it within the week in full. My sister worked for a vet they also never asked for upfront payment and always let people pay it off. They also got there antivenine from the hospital when it was out of date so it cost them very little. These days its all about the cash. What they pay for stuff and what they tell you it costs them are usually 2 different things. Out of date antivenom from the hospitals is as rare as hens teeth, and if we were to rely upon it for all the snake bite victims we see each year 99% wouldn't get treatment. If anyone wants to kick and scream about people being asked for dollars up front then spit in the direction of the grubs that never pay their bills.

Should Groomers Be Licensed? Qualified?
Crisovar replied to Danielle's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Some people simply suck at it regardless of where they learnt or how. I had a girl that had done a course rock up looking for work and couldn't tell one breed from another, so how the hell would she be able to groom them. Oodles are not a breed yet she firmly believed they all were and that the coats were all distinct. Bathing a dog may seem like a simple task, so we have dogs with water in their ears, dogs washed in concentrated shampoos and not rinsed, dogs bathed in overly warm water on hot days, some people just do not make the grade. I think firstly you cannot teach commonsense, and also many of the courses are simply not up to scratch. Many of the excellent groomers I know are self taught through experience gained through necessity when exhibiting coated breeds, others have learnt hands on with excellent mentors. From my experiences I would have to think long and hard before I supported the need for Licensing or Qualifications. -
This sounds good. Do you know whether it has good results with food allergies - its got chicken fat so if my dog is allergic to chicken, that would set him off. Reason i say this is the main protein in the food i feed at the moment is chicken... i doubt he is allergic to chicken but who knows at this stage! I read in the thread you posted they come in white bags (so there is no packaging and just white plastic bags with no nutrient guide or anything?) . How is freshness maintained if that is the case? Without knowing what your dog IS allergic to, how can you avoid the problem. You need to do an elimination diet first, to find the cause, He could be allergic to absolutely anything. It could be a major component in his current food or a simple additive.

Common request here too.

mutt is a bit harsh for this face heinz57 and cross mix sounds a little nicer haha i deffinately see koolie in her, just her behaviour alerts me to an actieve breed. anyway her name is Tess and she is incredibly smart He is a mutt, nothing at all wrong with being a mutt, I have owned several. It is what he is, a mixed breed of unknown origin it is not a slur it is a description.

Can't see any whippet, see a brindle and white mutt. Could be anything.

Ivermectin Dosage For Treatment Of Sarcoptic Mange

I would be seeking Vet advice on this, I really hate dosages and instructions for off label use of potentially dangerous products being bandied about on the net. -
C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Crisovar replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, the accredited breeders have gone through the same examination requirements and undertakings as a registered breeder, and the more involved submission and requirements attached to accreditation as well, plus have undertaken to be part of the site visits. This effectively formalises 'standards' to be maintained and encompasses inspections to ensure that those standards are in fact maintained. I've yet to hear of any CCC doing adhoc inspections to date. They may if there's been an ongoing complaint situation and the inspection is part of the investigation. I initially wondered why they didn't just instigate the accreditation to breeder registration, but they have the current registered breeders who have agreed to the current regulations and conditions, plus they are giving the breeders the opportunity of freely getting on board rather than simply commanding. New breeders apply for normal registration and as I'm not a new breeder I haven't ascertained whether there is a period of for want of a better word, 'traineeship' with a Mentor prior to being able to apply for accreditation. I suspect this might be the case. I know that there have been some inspections in NSW - I cant speak for Queensland but the reality is that the inspections we are discussing for accredited breeders are not adhoc any way so that's not really an arguement. This is still my question - why didnt they just instigate these things for all members because the reality is I can only see 2 which are not already there. I can see why those 2 things would be a bit sticky and knowing breeders as I do would really start a public flogging if they did but honestly its hard to follow why the things which are already there are being touted as something over and beyond. Give it time the usual reaction to anything new is to imagine all kinds of things which are not real and to pick on those who are more open to change. Well, if you can't see the difference between simply an open book exam and an undertaking which may or may not be upheld, compared to physically monitoring offering evidence of principled and ethical breeding initially, then both through new owners and on site inspections instead of doing nothing unless pushed to do so, then I guess I don't know how to explain it to you so that it is understood. I broached my thoughts in regard to just instigating it across the board with registered breeders in a previous post. I for one took on the accreditation for what accreditation is and don't see it as a means simply to obtain more income for Dogs Queensland. It's such a pity, in my eyes anyway, that so many breeders can't embrace it openly and I must admit I do wonder what their problem is and what they must be afraid of. I still say that Dogs Queensland are actually 'doing' something about improving the standards through their accreditation process and that is brave and proactive. I've done my best and if you guys all want to drown yourselves in cynicism and negativity go right ahead and do so. I'll revert back to simply quietly and confidently maintaining my own beliefs and hope you guys don't wreck something positive in the meantime. Why do those pushing something always bleat that those against it are afraid of it. There are already dodgy unethical breeders who wear the accredited badge, so what really does it mean? -
This is our second Cyclone for the week, TC Anthony visited last night when bigdogg first posted, now we await TC Yasi.

What is heading for QLD now is huge, they are calling it the largest Cyclone to ever affect QLD. Predictions of rainfall of up to one (1) metre in areas south of where she crosses the coast. TC Yasi

Don't Know How Vets And Vet Nurses Do It
Crisovar replied to jr_inoz's topic in General Dog Discussion
If it has been an emergency or a hospital case or one that has been ongoing usually an account is sent out later for established clients, of they may come in and settle the next day or on pick up of ashes etc. For a pre arranged Euth or non client etc normally carefully suggest paying when they sign consent, that way they can leave straight away afterwards, much better than trying to do it after. -

It may also depend on the state of mind of the owner too, an animal that is affected by the emotional state of the owner may end up very distressed. It is a very emotional time but the animals need to be kept calm and properly restrained. -
C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Crisovar replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
Was never a problem considering the majority was word of mouth, or return buyers, and for the majority of breeders I know it isn't a problem for them, also I would expect a puppy buyer to have done their homework and not just buy from someone because they put a pretty logo on their website. I have found the best advertisement is a happy healthy sound dog, typical of the breed out and about with a satisfied proud owner, be it on the street, in the park or at some form of dog sport or activity. -

Crisovar replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
  Accreditation proves the applicant is willing to pay a fee. I dont think that is correct as i have looked into the paperwork and their is more involved than simply paying money. It would take lies from a vet and other proffessionals to slip the system. And Sandra i dont think this is a laughing matter!!! It affects everyone in qld. You may laugh but i wonder what it is you are laughing at. All the time and money people put into produceing their dogs is not to be laughed at. a billion dollar industry. Perhaps to you it is a hobby but most devote their lives to produce and be the best they can be. My HOBBY was striving to breed the very best I could, it was never a BUSINESS, it was done for the satisfaction and enjoyment it gave. Do not confuse hobby with unethical or second rate. ETA and whilst I was doing just that it was my life. -

Yep, there are heaps of those out there, and the ones who want the vet to get out of bed at stupid o'clock drive to the surgery and look at the dog outside and not charge an after hours because they will stay outside. -

Taken from Dogs Qld Breeder Accreditation The Facts. HERE Maybe the Breeders don't feel the need to pay the fee to "prove" what they are already doing. I don't how you can call it going out of their way to comply IF they are already conforming with and surpassing what is already in place. Just a thought. When i say out of their way i mean pay more fees and the system also mentions mentors whom have to travel to other breeders and check on their kennels. Wouldnt you call this an extra activity for a breeder whom normally would be concerned with their own kennel, shows ect. I would call that going out of their way. They dont get paid for their service. In my world, Breeders helped each other and helped and encouraged new Breeders. Older breeders provided me and many others with countless hours of education and discussion, they helped evaluate and choose breeding animals and youngsters. No money changed hands, it was done with good grace and for the love of the dogs and our hobby. -

I wouldn't call the Brittany coat at all high maintenance, it is a very easy coat, nothing at all like a Cocker or Springer. -

A Brittany coat is very easy to care for and they are generally excellent gun dogs. Look for a breeder who has a track record working their dogs.
