  1. My breed was traditionally docked and to be honest I liked the look of a docked tail on a GSP ..... my OH and I differ in that opinion completely but I'm used to the longer tails now on them cause thats all you see really (although I threaten the younger boy with docking his tail with a pair of sisscors every now and again cause he has a thinner and more deadly tail than the older boy does .... and I do bruise easily! ) * edited to add - the last bit ... was a complete joke .... I promise
  2. Another boy got us I would imagine, we prefer males
  3. the duck frames are especially impressive, they are huge - we do trim them before giving them to the boys though as they still carry a lot of fat on them ......
  4. lack of quality for me and also dogs don't chew it to eat it therefore it doesn't clean the teeth and it stinks!
  5. we get ours from Hunter Valley Chicken and Game from Kotara - we have a standing weekly order for 10 chickens and 4 duck frames each week and they are sensational quality and excellent price.... we used to get ours from Stangers butchers but they have closed, but we can't be happier with HVCG http://hvcg.com.au/
  6. GSP's of course especially ones that idolise their big brothers
  7. Morty 10/52 Morty 11/52 - & his partner in crime *disclaimer - they are not as chunky as they look in this photo, they are quite lean actually, its just the pose isn't great for their waistlines
  8. Omg he is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Congrats
  9. Slightly late in posting this Morty 9/52 Link to the album 52 Weeks of Morty
  10. oh there are lots of books and dvds and website your can get information from as a lot of people do the foundation work with their dogs before they look at doing actual agility work with them - I'm not really that knowledgeable on all the different trainers but I have a few Susan Garret DVD's and found the Crate Games one was really good for pre-anything training .... she has some foundation ones as well out - I'm sure someone can recommend some good resources.... We were told to basically teach the dog recall & focus in a highly distractable enviornment also basic commands, movements, following hand signals and familiarising yourself with the rules and techniques for the handlers used is also a good thing ... we have been taking our boys to agility and obedience trials since they were pups - neither are ready to compete but its about getting them used to the environment, noise, smells and the excitement - they love going along.....
  11. a lot of agility groups won't take you until the dog is over 12mths of age and at a certain level of obedience training as agility is off lead work around other dogs ..... well thats what happens at the classes where I am, I know some places offer "puppy agility" or pre-agility classes as well .... I'd contact your local obedience/agility club and find out what they run and what they recommend ....
  12. Raymond Terrace has agility training too don't they? We haven't been doing the Sat mornings this year .... the OH went to the last gathering on the Wed night before Christmas but that was the last we'd been there - Morty is doing drive traning program so its hard to do both at the same time .. ...
  13. Vice versa Jigsaw, look forward to seeing you also & your sweet Koolie gal (well she sounds like a real sweetie) she is a real sweetheart! my older boy has a crush on her! yeah it is usually only the beginner classes that continue in the lower ring when the agility trial is on - the higher classes get cancelled - there are only 2 agility trials per year and maybe 3-4 obedience ones so its not that often training is cancelled Jigsaw - we'll be seeing you guys again soon, its time to bring Archie back into class so we're coming back to Sunday mornings probably from April onwards as we're swamped for most of March ....
  14. Both mine are insured with PetPlan - Morty we've never had to claim anything on (touch wood) but Archie has had several claims to the tune of $5000+ paid out quickly and with no dramas what so ever Is it worth it - definitely for us
  15. Laptop working! 7/52 - he just wasn't up for photos that day ..... 8/52 - snoozing after dinner watching tv Link to the collection 52 Weeks of Morty Out-take of the 8/52 - my boys getting comfy (please excuse the youngest one - he's a tart!)
  16. I've not posted my last couple of weeks worth of photos as I'm having laptop issues and can't get the photos off the memory card at the moment but I have been taking the photos I promise lol I'll get them up as soon as I can But in the meantime, I'm loving the photos from everyone (poor headless cow!)
  17. I think that the Newie trial weekend is also a show weekend over on the front side if thats the case then there will be no training on at all that Sunday - its going to be a massive weekend then - although once I remember they put the beginners class down on the bottom oval - I've never known them to move the training to another day though? Wed night classes are still only for the more advanced levels up is my understanding? ... best to call them to make sure anyway We will be there for the agility trial on the Sunday, I think the OH will be stewarding at least 1 day and we'll be there with both our boys
  18. dry food and a cooked combination of frozen veggies, rice or pasta and some "dog" mince and a big bone once a week the occasional can of dog food included ... kitchen scraps as well but never cooked bones even back then .... we used to make up the dog mince/pasta mix every 2 nights, making enough for 2 nights
  19. IWH doing obedience......???? Awesome if it is !!!! excellent! - I've seen only 1 another pure IWH at Sunday's training before and an IWHx (Porsha) sometimes attends with her sister Olive (Deerhound) .... your dog will be the centre of attention I'm sure If she wants some GSP boys to play with let me know my older boy is smitten with the larger hounds cause they can outrun him (and there isn't many other dogs that can)!
  20. I'm a little late in posting as well This is my 6/52 week photo of Morty .... I like it cause its a bit quirky - and it was taken last week I promise lol Link to the set 52 Weeks of Morty 2011
  21. 3 posts and all in the News section .... kinda odd maybe?
  22. get all three combo's I bet you'll find use for all of them ... oh and you're welcome, glad to be of assistance
  23. both my two have been taking it for 3mths now - no side effects in either dog... both are given it with a meal ... seems to work really well, we were using Sentinal Spectrum but it wasn't controlling the fleas, so we switched to Comfortis + heartworm (I forget which one) cause the boys would bring in fleas from outside and they wouldn't really bother them or stay on them but go straight to our poor indoor kitty - but once we got them onto the Comfortis the flea situation for the cat has cleared up
  24. my older boy has been called a Cattle Dog x cause apparently only Cattle dogs can have a speckled coat
  25. Morty 5/52 sharing his thoughts and feelings about this heat Link to the collection so far 52 Weeks of Morty 2011
