  1. It was bait. Still don't know how. It has just made me really paranoid about keeping the dogs safe and one reason that I moved. So when the guy told me 2 dogs had died here I flipped out a bit. I haven't worried too much about plants in the past as so many are poisonous. So I was just wondering if other people considered plants. Was just about to plant tomatoes which are poisonous! Probably the only way to make sure if you are really paranoid is to have absolutely no garden at all, but then there are the grasses which can be "poisonous" at different stages of their growth. Also a lot of plants that are classed as poisonous are not deadly, they just make the dog feel off colour or give it the runs. I have never seen a dog eat tomato plants. In fact I have never seen a dog eat any plant other than grass. I know they will eat fruit. With the bait, I suppose it could have been possible that a crow could have dropped it or a neighbour may have been baiting carrots for rabbit control. Which ever way, it was tragic & if it happened to me, I would be paranoid too Can you divide your yard into two & have one half for the dogs & the other for your garden.
  2. we just have the ol pink ones ..but modern varieties are just gorgeous! :) I have oleanders growing in the garden & have some lovely ones giving shade for the chooks & a lovely row of double perfumed ones along my front fence. I have seen them used as wind breaks around cow paddocks. I heard once that they are so bitter that nothing would touch them & also that they are mostly toxic if the wood is burnt. I have never had a problem & have never heard of a case of deadly poisoning from them. My chooks even cleaned up every part of my four lovely rhubarb plants Jules, did you find out for certain if it was a plant that killed Brock, I thought at the time you thought it may have been a bait. Tassie, your dogs eat all those lovely apples pips & all.
  3. I am a keen gardener, so I am sure I have heaps of poisonous plants, but I don't worry too much. I was pretty watchful when the young one was just a puppy, but the only thing he eats is grass. We have had many dogs in the past & have never had one case of garden poisoning. I have heaps of wandering jew around also, & they never get a rash. Maybe border collies are tough. At the moment my girl is filling herself up with mulberries straight off the tree, she doesn't even let them ripen first. And I think you will find Minimax that it is Wandering Jew. See here Wandering Jew

    Puppy Barking

A water pistol or spray bottle fired at the very same time as a very firm "ugh" (growl). Worked well with both my border collies who are angels now when it comes to not barking even though they both love water, they don't like it being fired at their face.
  5. All of these Homemade Treats but in particular, the VIP Lamb Chunkers fried in oil & garlic. Both my guys will do back flips for them & when they are fried up, the Chunkers handle really well & can be easily broken into tiny pieces.
  6. Hmmmm...I was interested in that Control Unleashed Puppy Program. I don't have a puppy at the moment, but it could be interesting.
  7. I can't find a single case where someone has been charged for splitting flea/tick treatments. I may be looking in the wrong place though? Me neither. But if they do decide to go after me for splitting Advantix, then with the money I have saved, I will be able to pay the fine. I really think they have better things to do, like prosecuting livestock producers for the inappropriate use of livestock chemicals. And who knows, maybe vets already have the authority from Bayer to advise on the use of Advantix as they in their wisdom see fit.
  8. How does it hold up chewing wise? Nova pops tennis balls in a single game of fetch I have had some of those Fantastic Foam balls around now for over two years & they are still all in one piece even with two border collies....but they don't squeak.
  9. Best idea if you are in doubt, just order that product seperately then if it gets held up in customs it doesn't delay the rest of your order. I have only heard of them confiscating food products in orders & have had no trouble with real fur toys from Clean Run.
  10. He doesn't like muzzles, but that's a good idea, I might try desensitising him to it and see if that helps, I have a very soft one here for our other dog that'll fit him. Thanks :) I think you have to get them used to the muzzle. At the moment, my young guy is inside in the airconditioning, asleep behind the lounge with his muzzle on. Doesn't mind it at all :) ETA....these are on Free Shipping at the moment Cloud Collar
  11. Great...I have been waiting soooooooo long for this. I desperately need more soft frisbees. I will order some more Fantastic Foam Balls too, even though the ones I bought 2 years ago are still going strong, but I keep giving my supplies away  (Makes note to self to stop doing that )
  12. Sorry can't help you with the first one, but you could try a soft muzzle on him to stop the licking, till the cream get absorbed. I use a plastic muzzle on my young guy to stop him chewing on things he shouldn't when he cant be watched & he doesn't seem to mind it all....as long as I put a nice juicy treat inside each time. :)
  13. The ingredients are mixed so thoroughly, that as she says, they don't even give instructions to shake it :)
  14. As promised...here is the answer I received from Bayer.... The active ingredients are distributed throughout the Advantix liquid. There is no instruction on the vials to shake before use. However, the product is registered for use as one (or 2) tube (s) per animal according to their body weight to avoid under or over dosing. We don?t have any information about Frontline. Have a great day. Kind Regards, Michelle Chandler Technical Support Consultant Bayer Animal Health Bayer Australia Ltd
  15. A quick google will bring up lots of information on splitting viles including This onewhich tells you the amounts & the safe handling & storage.
  16. A lot of manufacturing processes squirt set amounts of the ingredients into each container. they don't mix up a batch and then dole it out. Canned goods for example put set amounts of the ingredients into each can and then seal it and boil it. They measure temperatures because they know its cooked after so many minutes at a certain temperature. It would not surprise me to learn that the spot on treatments get a similar process (not the boiling part  ). Oh okay hadn't thought of that, I a, very interested to see what it says now :) I have now changed products but never had any flea, work or heartworm issues while doing what I did, which was around 6 years I luv your signature , Ososwift. IF I do get a reply, then I will be asking them more questions :)

Although it needn't be as it would all be done by machine.
  18. Sorry to bring this back up again, but I am still confused & apart from the legal points, my other points have not been answered. I have written to Bayer in regards to the above statement, because if it is true, then we are wasting our time doing what the directions say, in distributing the product to several points along the dogs back, if the emulsion can never mix, then all of the active ingredients are going to end up in one spot anyway. Also, I can't get my head around the idea that the ingredients in all these tiny tubes are individually mixed, added to the tube then sealed with exactly the right amount of active ingredient in each one. I would have thought it would all be mixed in a batch with the ingredients evenly distributed then put into the tubes by machine, as it comes. If the ingredients never mix, then some tubes are going to have little or no active ingredient in them. If they are individually made & filled by scientist, then maybe that explains the high price of these products compared to other livestock tickicides. Sorry to be such a but if I ever hear back from Bayer, then I will post the answer.
  19. I very much doubt it. Customs wont allow you to bring in any dog treats from Clean Run, for eg.
  20. What we did when we got our BC puppy was this......we have verandas around the house, so OH sectioned off part of the veranda with sides high enough that he cant jump or climb out & a gate at the front. On this small section of the veranda he has a kennel (which he has chewed up but is still functional) & safe toys to play with. He is normally outside during the day, but if we need to confine him, we put him on HIS veranda. At night he sleeps in his wire crate (covered) inside the house. He is now 19 months old & still cannot be trusted not to chew things...he is so quick. He has just graduated to being allowed to travel on the back seat of the car, but I put a muzzle on him & he doesn't seem to mind this at all, as long as I put a yummy treat inside. He is also allowed inside if he has his muzzle on.
  21. If you can't find anything in Oz...have a look at the Clean Run site. I know they have boots, but not sure if they are waterproof. ETA....here you go...done it for you :) Waterproof Dog Boots
  22. Also...be careful if using a "human" playpen as puppies & small dogs can easily get their heads caught in them Also if using a pen for confinement, never bend over & lift your pup out over the top...always have a gate to open. Otherwise the pup quickly learns that the way out is over the top.
  23. Whats the best way to thin out a very thick...fox-like, tail?? & matching pants :D
  24. Then show me on the Bayer site, where it says that it is unsafe & unlawful to split the large doses. That is all I am asking, is that be shown to me & many others who split doses, where Bayer says that this practice is unlawful & dangerous. I have the safety directions in front of me & have gone right through their web page & cannot find the information that you claim that the ingredients do not mix. If they do not mix, then neither would they mix in cattle products that come in 5 litre containers, not individual tubes. It is done up in individual tubes for convenience of the user, so that the dose is already worked out for them & they just have to snip off the top & apply it.
