You are so right. Ruby gives some lovely work when she's motivated, but I have broken her somehow and I am struggling to get her motivated in the ring. Our teamwork could use a little work. Strauss is all prancy already! But have to say, your kids are natural prancers, take Cider for example!! It's gonna be a struggle to get a Lab to prance delicately I had my video camera in my car on Monday for you, forget to tell you Oh well, next time eh?

I'll be at the catchup too on the 7th, but I'm bringing Millie instead ;) I'm working on this new style with Millie too, we'll see how long before I get bored and revert back to what I was doing before as I am an impatient little bugger I worked with attention in Millie from the day I got her too, after seeing where I went wrong with Ruby. So for the most part, the attention carried over to heelwork for me too, but nothin' like Ptolomy's kids!! I concentrated so hard on attention that her position slipped a bit Next dog, I know to make sure both come hand in hand

That's the best reason for night trials Only 3 more local trials left for the year :D
-
If it's too hot on Saturday I won't enter Millie at the obedience trial. Instead, I'll hold her out til the night time trials. I've decided I'm in no rush to get that last Novice pass with her anyway cos then we won't have any trials to enter! I won't put her in Open til next year, hopefully I will have her a bit more ready for it :D And Ruby's on a temporary trialling break She might possibly see the inside of an agility trialling ring before she sees the inside of an obedience one again
-
I'll have 2 dogs that are 4 very soon :D My babies are growing up! Not looking forward to their "golden years", aging at the same time Not how I planned it! I got Millie 2 years after Ruby, yet they are about the same age
-
Maybe I should bring a cake to training tomorrow for her And that huge Clean Run order that will be arriving shortly is present enough for her highness!!!
-
OH MY GOD you really are sick! :D Somebody call a doctor!!!!!!! Just going to enjoy my current 2 ratbags for a while! Speaking of my babies, tomorrow it will be 2 years since I adopted Millie - boy that time has flown!!!! But then again, it feels like I've had her forever. Couldn't imagine her not being with us P.S. Because I don't know her exact birthday or age (we were told she was around 2 when I got her), the 21st October is declared her birthday. So Happy 4th Birthday tomorrow, Moo!!!

2010 Training/title/goals Wish List
RubyStar replied to Seita's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It is very likely it will be an ANKC recognised sport where you can earn titles come January 1, 2011 And as soon as that happens, I am pretty sure some WA clubs will offer rally trials because a lot of people have been talking about it and training it over here I'm going to do it with my girls Edit: I accidentally put 2012 instead of 2011 -
Still waiting on my Clean Run order! It's probably stuck in quarantine or customs or wherever it stops as it was quite a large order I addressed it to my Dad and his address because he is home during the day to receive it and even if he does pop out and misses the postie, he can go and pick it up from the post office without having to worry about getting my signature to do so Oh and I'm currently not yearning for a puppy, what is wrong with me?
-
Maybe that's cos there isn't just one instigator, we're all guilty of over-plugging Clean Run! And the fact that even though we nominated Ptolomy, she is being too shy to accept it! Did you ask them about free shipping of i-squeaks so several people on here can benefit?

I bought some pretty ribbon off ebay and found some instructions via my friend Google to make my own collars/leads, but having trouble finding webbing (and not black) and all the gadgets. Looks like you have to buy in bulk off ebay
-
I was there about 10 days ago - I found the collar and lead selection a bit lacking, I did buy 2 toys tho... Why do you think my girls have been wearing the same scabby collars/leads for almost 2 years now! I just can't find anything half decent in the shops! And buying 2 sets online plus postage has made me hold out. Finally ordered the Clean Run ones, I hope they are ok :D Collars/leads are like handbags for me, I like to chop and change often and when I can't, it drives me bonkers!! Ruby went through so many before I got Millie

I can move sideways and she usually follows, I can step left or right in a circle and same thing, so stationary is pretty good (but with anything, could be perfected). I actually did heaps of this back when I had lots of waiting around in class (back when I trained in classes ) I tried some last night, she keeps jumping up at my hand even though its low So yes I need to teach the extended nose touch first I guess I am a bit blind in seeing at this point in time how getting her to do that will translate to having better position at my side. I know there is a way, otherwise it would never have been suggested at the seminar nor by you cos I know you're doing it with Strauss, but I am struggling to see it for myself :D Pick away, but my forewarning is I become even more clumsy with clickers and treats when someone is eyeballing us I very much struggle with timing of reward and placement of reward. Which are essential in training :D

I'd love some opinions on how some of you might go about retraining heel position? Say you've got a dog who gives reasonable attention already, but hasn't got a heel position you're 100% happy with (ie. too wide), how would you go about making that position better while communicating to the dog that it is position we are after, not the attention they are giving in the general vicinity of heel position? Millie's generally got lovely attention as I spent a lot of time rewarding that, but she often goes too wide and I would very much like to tidy it up, bringing her in closer and her maintaining that position even through pace changes (she goes wider on fast pace). She can jump into stationary heel position no problems, so I know I need to go right back and work up from stationary where she seems to know her position better, but I am feeling a little clueless I guess on how to handle the rewarding side of things and keeping the treats out of my hands to do this (as she will stick closer when I pull a treat out). We also use a clicker. Any helpful tips appreciated!

Nah that was Cider (Soggy Bear) - Beans only lasted 12 steps in open before we decided that it was time to call it a day Maybe next time I take Beans in and you take Ruby in and we'll see who lasts longest The cool coats do look great, can't wait for mine to arrive. Thanks for the loan of yours yesterday Ptolomy, certainly was interesting to trial them with a coat on! Oh and Happy 8th Birthday Scoota!!!! Yep I will be there tonight!
-
After retrieve on the flat - she pulled another "Ruby" and took her second dump for the morning (though she had the grace to leave the ring to do it ) then as I thought Ptolomy was going to get Ruby back being her handler for the day and I ran up the side with a poo bag to get the poo, Ptolomy got the poo and we both forgot about the dog so she was tearing around wondering who she should go to I really shouldn't laugh, it was very naughty of her, but it was one of those situations where she didn't know if she was coming or going due to handler change Probably I think I have scarred her with that incident
-
Anytime Even though she caused a scene running through the UD ring I have to grin about it cos she was looking for me - I can't believe my girl cared enough to worry where I was
-
Millie's final CCD pass for her title, 1st place and her best CCD score was at a fundraiser trial and we got SFA
-
I'd like to post a tiny spec of a brag. Might not mean a lot to some but it's a pretty huge deal here :D Ruby managed a perfect stand for exam today, and it was the lengthiest SFE she's had to date!! The score itself wasn't perfect, somehow and somewhere very mysterious, 5 points got sucked into a black hole But the score means nothing to me, the paws didn't move an iota! :D 50% of this brag (if not 100%) goes to Ptolomy, she tried out a new coloured handbag this morning, I think it quite suits her, whaddya reckon?
-
Congrats valley and Lincoln!!!!!! :D
-
Cider is such a little STAR!!!!! Well done Ptolomy, she is a dream to watch, and no doubt a dream to work in the ring!! :D Unlike your trade-in this morning Well done to Brookie on all his wins today, what an awesome boy Well done to Smoothiegirl too with her second CCD leg And of course to valley with her puppy in group! And well done TN on Jedi's neuter show wins, great brags all round this weekend!!! :D
-
I understand the poo horrors :D Well done on everything else being lovely, though!
-
Great, that's what I will be doing for lunch too, then! I don't really like taking a packed lunch, I'm not organised enough :D Glad it's going to be a tad cooler, my new cool coats haven't arrived yet! Poo! :D

Loving this thread! :D

Hoping someone might know - is there somewhere close by (ie. walking distance) at the Rockingham trial to go and buy lunch?
