  1. Agreed. I train for focused attention and not going through the motions. Still a work in progress but we've come a long way in 12 months of me setting firmer criteria for this. If my dog is giving crap work in the ring, even though it's still technically a pass, I feel very inclined to pull out. And have on many occasions. One time I pulled her out a few steps into the heelwork.
  2. They just let us each do a few tracks with our dogs on a field, wasnt too hectic, I am going along for the first time next saturday, will probably buy maybe the harness but not the longer lead, I find the lead i have hard enough to control at full length Edited to say there are a bunch of us getting together for Mason's birthday on easter monday, all are welcome to come down and say hi, we will be there from around 10am and humans are welcome to BBQ with us if you feel for it. You forgot to say where it is Riverside for those of you playing along at home
  3. I can't believe how many of you are saying Chocolate HCB's are awful! For shame
  4. Are you able to suggest some warm and and cool down exercises I can do with my Labs before and after agility training, please?
  5. After working my "Lab who can't jump" tonight, I think I am going to have to eat my words Some very lovely jumping! If she has to jump 600 well I don't think we'll bother competing, but if she scrapes in at 500 I may just give her a shot! We were jumping 400 tonight. Very impressed with my smart little blondie!!!
  6. Well those of us who can't stand the fruit ones want to be included dammit!! I quite like the choccy ones, 15 secs in the microwave make the chocolate all gooey, yummmm
  7. There's no off topic in here I like the chocolate ones! HATE the fruit ones, except they do smell lovely! That's about it
  8. I like Tiggy's idea better. Closer to where I wanna move to
  9. Nope, I too think K9 should move... I hate living in City of Gosnells!! But I like being close to the K9
  10. I'm guessing you're a baker then? No wonder you get up so early! That is one job I could NEVER do, not only cos I can't cook, but because the insane time you start!!!
  11. I don't think anyone is thinking a Lab of that size being in the agility ring. Well, I'm not! That weight would be horrid on the joints would it not?? Eh, I don't know This should be able to handle agility better, but surprisingly, she's still a shocker at jumping My other girl who is approximately the same size/weight, she's the one I'm doing agility with. ETA: My girls are slim but not the athletic field type Labs.
  12. Oh that's right, you're addicted to agility, no need to convince you I know we're meeting there tonight to train but me thinks we'll have to do that every week Training is so much better when training with friends! I lose motivation if I have to train by myself all the time.
  13. Candice, yes I think you should move closer ;) Mondays for me is obedience with both girls at K9. Tuesdays is obedience with Ruby before agility, then agility with Millie, then more obedience with Ruby after agility at K9. Wednesdays was nothing at K9 but if I can convince amypie :D it is going to be agility/obedience night at K9 And I think I shoud make my Thurs and Fri chocolate and cruiser nights ;) Who wants to join me?
  14. Welcome to you too, jules1! You've got puppy breath, so jealous! I would slowly introduce raw meaty bones into your pup's diet if you want to feed raw, not just raw mince, but I am sure the health subforum will have some great more in depth advice for you!
  15. Hi spkye88, welcome! I believe there is a dog club in Eden Hill you could try if you haven't already, or there are plenty of others around Perth as well. These will give you a good foundation on how to train a dog out of it's comfort zone, the backyard Good luck!!
  16. Does anyone know if there are any lights on at the K9 tonight to train under?
  17. Not sure if anyone has seen those laundry hampers that pop open (I use them for camping). The look just like the solid part of the chute and have the sprung wire inside. I was thinking to get one of those from the cheap shops and attach a chute on the end. I would assume Spotlight sells some kind of material similar to that of the actual chutes. similar to this Great Idea.I purchased an Oztrail Storage Cell yesterday on special for $9.95-Norm $24.95 to try and make a chute. Not sure what to use for the material part yet? It's heavy duty reinforced vinyl.60cm long and about 50cm across.Just have to see if my shepherd can fit her rear end through it yet That's a good idea. Where did you get it on sale at?
  18. I'm doing agility with Millie my choc Lab. She's not a field bred Lab but she is lean and fast and loves doing things with me so why the heck not! She just needs an experienced handler to bring out her speed, gosh she can run FAST, but I'm afraid I am definitely going to let the team down! Sorry Moo, you're stuck with me Ruby my yellow Lab is also lean, but she isn't cut out for jumping like Millie is. She lands more heavily than Millie and struggles to jump high unless she has a good run up, whilst Millie could leap a metre upwards from a stationary position! (I think she has Tigger in her lines somewhere ) I may do some agility training with Ruby on my own when I'm training Millie outside of class as she too loves it, but have no aspirations to trial Ruby where as I hope one day I might be able to trial with Millie.
  19. Pumpkin, ham, lots of goat, chicken, yoghurt and yep buckets of cheese and sweet potato I take that back, not poor Beans, her treats sound delish!! My girls want in on that They get the boring options with me :D But hey, like we've discussed, I own a breed that would work for a strip of lettuce
  20. I think you will find that Millie will come one of the closest to this! She is so delicate when taking treats out of your hand or off the floor. I will shove food in Ruby's gob before she takes off my fingers, then I go to do the same with Millie and forget how gentle she is. I believe the snatching is part training, part personality. I was silly and believed the nipping for food as a pup would go away with age, so I was too late to train Ruby not to snatch properly. Millie would have gotten NO training where she came from, I got her as a 2 and a half year old, never taught her to take gently, because she just naturally takes food gently. Throw it in the air for her though and she will jump at it and you can literally hear her gob snap around the treat
  21. In case I forget when we are together on Sunday. Beans is allergic to lots and lots of foods - so need to keep the esky lids on and not let her hijack Ruby's treats. Poor Beans, having to train for sweet potato! (yes I know you have other yummy options in there for her ) The poor dear, it would be awful to be allergic to most foods :D
  22. AHA!! Rarely means you have done it before Once the treats go in the bag, even though no doggy slobber has gone near it, my mind switches over to dog treats so no snacking occurs, just grosses me out. The only time I might snack is if I am cutting cheese up for them and it's still on the chopping board
