Feather only raced a couple of meetings. She was very promising but the track wasn't well maintained at the time, something to do with change of ownership I think, anyway she split the webbing on one of her front feet and I retired her. I think she would have done well, she was pretty quick for her size.
-
yep they must wear muzzles but I could never get one small enough for her. That one's too big and I'd already pinched up the back of it behind her ears. She used to race against dogs half as big as her again. One time she was just beaten and when she came back to me all smiles and excitement she had footprints all over her back, the dog had literally run straight over the top of her, but she never gave up. Yes, she really was in her prime there. I loved her metallic shiny coat.
-
but would you wear your hair like that too?
-
Yes, I think the size, and temperament (even though you didn't ask about that) would make a huge difference. Especially if you walk them. If you had a reactive dog you couldn't manage a whole hoarde of them.
-
I'd say too many is when you cannot give them all enough time, exercise, play and attention, and cannot afford to care for them if they need veterinary attention.

I just have to show off this photo of her. My darling girl Kibah in her prime. Peak of health and condition, plenty of heart and lung room in that chest, she was a little ball of muscle and raced as Pocket Rocket. That day all the race dogs wore a little black ribbon in rememberance of a fellow whippet who'd recently died. Although the racing was purely amateur I took it very seriously and used to trial my whippets twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays at the Healesville straight track, 340 mts up a slight incline. They were super fit. The greyhound blokes used to be envious at how keen they were.
-
If it was one of my whippets I'd offer to help remove it but I'd pass with him. He looks like he's just eaten my Blondie chicken!! She wouldn't last long around him.

I was just about to comment on the gorgeous frilly petticoat!

Yes, those magnificent ear funnels, they were the most expressive ears I've ever seen too. I remember Atlas, unless someone else had a bully with the same name.

Not as a child, this was MY first dog as an adult, and my first sighthound. She was given to my mother as a tiny pot bellied 6 week old "chihuahua cross". She was a solid blue colour when Mum got her but within about a month turned brindle. Mum named her Magic because she transformed from that wormy pot bellied blue puppy into this leggy elegant brindle girl, so different from her rough start. After a few months my mother found her too much of a handful and gave her to me. I loved her more than words can express. I was told by vets and people who knew sighthounds that she was a whippet, but now, knowing the personality of both whippets and IGs I think she was a cross of the 2. I know now that those pricked ears and 10 to 2 feet are wrong, but I thought she was the most beautiful thing, actually, I still do. Tragically she was killed when very young. It broke my heart and these are the only photos I have of her. Dec 1986 Christmas party.

Just smother her with love.

wow, what an experience that would be! -
Far out, wouldn't it be nice. I wonder if previous owners of the property will start coming out of the woodwork. I know they're trying to keep their identity a secret but I'll bet there'll be others trying to put in a claim.

Thankyou, it's a week today, I've tied up the loose ends, paid the final bill, but I still cant really believe she's gone, it's as if she's just in the other room. Her fig tree is waiting for Autumn to be planted. It has a history which appeals to me. It's parent was smuggled into Australia from Italy in the 1950's. I wanted a good eating fig and I assume if someone went to the trouble of bringing one over from their family property it's probably good to eat and has great sentimental value to them as well.
-
she looks so calm and knowing, but I'm sure there's the "other" side too, the crazy one.
-
thankyou all. I'm missing her, I still cant quite get used to her being gone forever, even though it is a week today since she left me. It's like she's just in another room and she'll come tootling in looking for bananas or come and bury her head in my lap for cuddles. I'm glad she's not suffering anymore though and when I get melancholy I remind myself that we had no other option.
-
Yes yes! that was us! :D following the man would be right, I cant keep up with him when he walks with those big long legs. the other IGs were Nekos mum Widget and brother Arkey. I'd picked her up because we'd been standing under that tin roofed shelter and when the rain came she got really frightened. Initially I didn't even realise, I was talking to the lady in the office and the person behind me tapped me on the shoulder and said she was scared. I felt awful when I turned and looked at her. She's never experienced such heavy rain and being under the tin roof as well was really scary for her.
-
do they know what is wrong with her? Thankyou for your kind comments in Kibahs thread, I know you have these concerns of your own to deal with. I'm hoping for a good outcome for Panto.

Borzoi In The New Big W Denim Ad?
Kirislin replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have done the odd ad with my IGs and greys. The IGs are not requested very often though How do they contact you in the first place? -
Yep, she's a Lowchen
-
I'm new to showing too but I think it's been done for years so it must be accepted. No one was trying to hide what they were doing. I've always hated how they put makeup on horses too. When I showed my mare all I did was to make sure she was immaculately clean and healthy, no shaving out her ears or taking off whiskers or mane. Needless to say, I didn't get a look in.

Then & Now - Photos Of Dogs And Pets As They Grow.

very cute indeed. -
Are they putting make up on the dog? Interesting subject :) Yup a dog show last week. All we have to do with the Iggies is wipe them over with a nappy wipe  although I did bath Neko the day before so she'd smell nice because she smelt like dead snails before.
