  1. Yes. Dory had one of her thyroid glands become cancerous, it was removed three to four years ago. It was incapsulated and appeared to have all been excised. Lab result said low grade, unlikely to spread but to keep checking her as it was still a possibility. I've had her thyroid levels checked, and they appeared normal (although time for another check I think). I did note some minor behavioural changes after it was removed. Dory is about 8 or 9-ish now, she was pretty young to have had this type of cancer from what I was told.
  2. One of my long ago dogs ripped off and shredded the cars roof lining, then proceeded to rip chunks out of the drivers seat. That was probably the worst. There was the couch tug o' war once between two old fart dogs. Willow's stick fetish is a breeze in comparison.
  3. I've heard of people paying more than that for his dogs.
  4. I just finished re-reading Give Your Dog a Bone...it was a struggle. I'm now reading Raw and Natural Nutrition for Dogs by Lew Olson PhD. A much, much better read and it does touch on actual nutrition information. It also doesn't cane, cooked home foods or even kibble. It does talk about supplements, but not like you HAVE to give them. Just that they can help. We feed predominately raw here, with the odd bit of scraps and the odd bit of dry food (training treats, or oops...forgot to defrost something). I like the results I'm getting, that is my yardstick after having fiddled around a bit over the years.
  5. Willow is the same! The Chuck It ball is THE ball of balls for her. I think it's squidy enough, right amount of resistance and defies her attempts to pulverize it to ingestable bits.
  6. Before I had my daughter I had the dogs and we would go for two walks a day together. After I had my daughter, I had my dogs and we would ALL go for two walks a day together. In fact, we still had pretty much the same routine, just with added child. We were one big happy family. My daughter still has great memories (and photos to back it up) of those two dogs and often reminisces about them and the mischief they got into. If anything, we probably did longer walks after daughter was born (only way to get her to sleep!).
  7. Dory doesn't like getting rained on. Period. We've had to physically carry her out to pee. Willow really could care less. Willow also cares not about running around with a piece of poo flapping around her nether parts. Such a lady.
  8. Dory and Willow get quite frisky with each other here. Drives us a little nuts mostly because Willow flirts outrageously and will nuzzle Dorys ears. Which Dory loves no matter who is doing it. (Cats will sometimes oblige) So then Dory spends a lot of time pawing at Willow and then shoving her ears in Willow's face. It gets really silly when Willow starts flagging. Somethings cannot be unseen. And they are both girls!!!! Desexed and Entire.
  9. Willow gives tennis balls as gifts. She will tuck them under your head, shoulders, arms...wherever she can stuff them. My daughter finds this hilarious when I've nodded off on the couch. She will even jam them in your face if you're at her height as you drool into a cushion. Everything else is used as items for teasing, taunting, playing keepings off or just generally nicking off with. ETA Dory does none of these. Her gifts involve a launch in your lap and a tongue up your nose if you're not careful.
  10. Willow isn't strictly working lines...but...she does alright, Schmooozing at the Zombie Walk with a random stranger
  11. Around these parts canine evolution took a turn no one expected.
  12. Easy. Another Rottie. Always thought my 'old lady' dog would be a pug or frenchie. But then I started thinking...rottweiler...carting...mobility...I could make that work.
  13. Aside from the fact that he was encroaching on YOUR personal space too, regardless of the dogs. You'd asked him to move along, because you weren't comfortable and then he continued into your personal space.
  14. There was no question that asked the real question.... Do you let your dog sleep on the bed because you feel guilty about leaving them? Yes. Yes, I do!
  15. I made my own after Dory kept chewing everything (she also opens car doors so something chew proof is a must!). I got an old chain lead, a spare clip from another lead Dory killed and clip the chain lead to the car seat clippy do dad then clip the lead to her harness. Works a treat!
  16. Tonight we had a kid beeline to the car to pat Willow, who was in the car! Fortunately, Mum was on to him before he made it.
  17. Mine would have to go with an owner attachment. I don't like being parted from her.
  18. I did. Great in the hand when dry, very slippery when wet.
  19. I use Gripper Leads. At first they did cut my hands, but no no problem. I can't say they are soft. They aren't. And I use mine daily. I prefer it over webbing/cloth any day. But they do give good grip, which is what I have needed. Hands just aren't as strong as they once were. One day I'll have leather again.
  20. Yup :) Quadruple yep!!! :D The hunting and fire making skills I learned from our house boi in PNG woill come in handy for keeping me and my Rotti fed... *grin* Rotti is definitely for cuddle factor and companionship - never had one that might have been any good at hunting... errr! T. I have. But I don't think she even knew how she caught the rabbit. She would also try and catch mice. Willow is more a bird dog.
  21. Yup :) I was afraid I was going to sound boring and repetitive. But... Rottweiler.
  22. Slipping in a pool of drool. Honestly, I didn't think my brekky was that tasty. Clearly Willow did. I hadn't noticed her drooling because she normally had hangers. On this occasion there were no hangers, it was all puddled at my feet. So when I got up to put dishes in the sink... Fortunately slipped bottom down on my chair with a scrambling Willow tripping me further. I'd like to think with concern, but in all honesty, I think she just wanted my plate.
  23. I weighed Willow weekly while she was growing and she seemed to keep with about a 1kg a week. Some weeks she was a little less, but then she seemed to make up for that on another week with a more than kilo weight gain. At 18mths old she is about 45kg, give or take depending on how fussy she is being with eating.
  24. What's a Rottweiler equivalent? There is none. Rottweilers are a class of their own. :D
  25. Poor Beau doesn't meet the breed standards and neither would his parents. Territorial aggression although unfitting for a reliable pet is what a GSD must have to comply with the breed standards. A GSD who could pass breed suitability testing would have instinctively bitten the thief and caused him injury in those circumstances. Great to see he was found and reunited with his owner and is safely back home Might want to tell that to the seriously nasty GSD yard dog that even the owners were wary of. It would turn to mush for our very elderly Neighbour. She would wander over and poke food through the fence twice a day. And got to a point where it would happily and ecstatically take ear rubs from her. And 'meh' dogs can pass breed testing. It's called training.
