  1. Really? I never knew that... so what is the difference between 'normal' chicken and the free-range stuff (the Mt Barker stuff is actually heaps cheaper at my butcher anyway) Free Range Park is readily available these days too from Linley Valley PPC - and I'd be of the assumption that ALL beef & lamb/mutton is free-range? Not sure what other 'meats' you are referring to?
  2. I've seen it at Better Pets and Gardens in Wangara before....
  3. Advance is Australian... not sure of any others
  4. Thanks guys... I went to the local pet supply store and found a catch ball by Aussie Dog Toys... looks pretty well made, and Ollie loves it. I think I'm going to order an Orbee ball as well as they look fab!
  5. My GSP pup is a bit tennis ball obsessed... I know they aren't very good for his teeth, so what alternatives are available that a good? I've tried replacing the tennis ball with a kong but he wont have a bar of it (he seems to think kongs are only good as food dispensers!), nor is he overly fussed on soft toys (he just wants to 'kill' these) Don't mind spending a little extra if it is good quality that lasts, also needs to be of a safe size for a GSP (Which tennis balls wont be for too much longer)
  6. I hear ya... I've noticed that the more my GSP's balls grow, the smaller his brain seems to get! His recall is just so ho-hum at the moment.
  7. Apple Cider Vinegar also works... and is a lot cheaper. You don't need much tho! Again, not sure if it changes the PH of urine?
  8. my 7 month pup also loooooves to jump. I make sure to keep him onlead in public - you just can't risk your dog jumping up on the wrong person these days; and it's not all that nice even for those that do like dogs. Ignoring doesn't work (not before you are bruised and battered anyway - he's persistant!) with Ollie when he is overexcited, so I physically have to restrain him whilst doing long calming strokes down the entire length of his body.. once he 'settles' he is pretty good and wont jump. It is only then that I allow people to pat/greet him.
  9. i got my sample from Vet n Pet and yes, I will be ordering some more when I next order something from them.
  10. I just got a sample of Best Mates treats in with my latest online order... my two loved them, and I thought they tasted pretty good too!
  11. My go berserk over the Mt Barker free range chicken sausages!
  12. I"ve just put a linky in the GSP thread to here. He does have a slightly longer than normal coat on all his body bar the neck area, which still feels like puppy fur. Whilst he is not as shiny as my solid liver girl - his coat does have shine, and no more or less coarse than Chelsea's (my other GSP) The only thing I have noticed tho is that I get a mild skin allergy to his fur, whereas with Chelsea I'm fine.
  13. oh, sorry.. should've mentioned... he was wet when I took that picture!
  14. I did think of that, but his collar is very loose so really doesn't touch that area of his neck... he only wears a breakaway collar when I am out from the house, so only about 8 hours a day normally.
  15. Hi guys.... Can anyone shed some light on what could be going on here? He is in otherwise excellent health, doesn't seem itchy (we use Aloveen here anyway), no sign of fleas etc.
  16. I've not come across Advantix before... is it one of those spot on heartworm/flea/ticks applications? I've never worried about treating for ticks as we don't get them around here. My guys are already on heartworm prevention, so would rather something specific to treating flies (tho I don't mind if it repells or kills off other biteys as well) Permoxin is out for us as is any other product not safe for cats to ingest - my cats do sometimes groom my dogs - they also have a lot of close contact.
  17. the pesky buggers are back! ok, so I've 'recharged' and hung up my fly traps, I'm keeping up poo patrol twice daily etc... but yet, the buggers are still en masse and attacking my dogs. What is the best fly repellant around? ETA:I've smelled a few in store and they seem to stink of citronella, which my dogs hate! Ideas?
  18. There is this thread a little further down the page. Also if you go to the CAWA website you will see a lot more listed. Training NOR
  19. They look really good - and dog proof! Delivery to Perth is a little steep tho :-(
  20. either Northern Suburbs Dog Training or Joondalup Dog Training are both NOR and promote positive training methods. Northern Suburbs is a very large club (too large for my liking), not sure about Joondalup as I plan on visiting them in the next week or two.
  21. well I've switched the lamb/beef bones for chicken necks and carcasses... he is soooo much better. Still stinks a bit, but hey he is a boy dog... and it's no where near as bad as it was when I posted this.

    Storms

Madeleine - How's it going now with your pug? Have you had another storm to practise on again? Good to know I was on the right track with Chelsea.... hang on, I must have been.... she is no longer terrified of thunder!
  23. Funny you say that Rugerfly.... as Ollie hasn't been given bones for 2 days now and guess what? No farts!
  24. Yep... that sounds like the kinda stench we are enduring over here. Ollie quite often will smell his own fart, get up and leave the room!
  25. Hi all, I'm not looking to convert to soley to raw feeding - we are happily combining mostly dry with the odd meaty bone, egg or yoghurt... but asking a quick Q for those feeding Advance Puppy to their dogs, is it known to make for a really whiffy rear end? Ollie is positively putrid as of late He does tend to gulp his food a bit (he's a GSP!) despite me putting monster rocks etc in his bowl, he is otherwise doing fantastically on Advance - super small stools, nice lean growth, plenty of energy, great skin and a glossy coat. Is Advance known to contribute to this... or should I try another food with him? If so, are there any other dry foods out there that might lessen the silent-but-deadly assult on ours noses?
