  1. Couldn't agree more. However, undoing the ban is not assisted by the kinds of behaviour encouraged in this thread. All irresponsible dog owner behaviour has the potential to create issues for the rest of us. If you think differently, you are sadly mistaken. if they banned the poodle and whippet as of tomorrow, would you get rid of your dogs and purchase another breed?
  2. fine an dandy, but do YOU own an American Pitbull terrier? and do you have first hand experience with dealing with the laws, not just reading legislation.
  3. I couldn't give a toss about the media. I do care about intentional law breaking when it rebounds on responsible dog owners. And believe me, every negative media article has flow on effects for dogs. There is a place in Australia where it is completely legal to own an APBT. If you give a damn about your breed why not move here, bring them out of hiding and explode the stereotype whilst obeying the law. Two hours south of Sydking's current residence he woudn't be facing any of these issues unless he raised a dangerous dog. Or does that require a little more commitment than most of the die hard APBT fans encouraging unlawful behaviour are prepared to give? Other people law breaking and what they do should be no worry to you, but you seem to make it your concern, which is up to you. But why worry about something you cant change, BSL or not the breed will always be around. no different from when they banned German Shepard then the dobermans, now its the pitbulls, its just a passing phase that keep the public thinking that the government is doing something.
  4. do you even own an American pitbull terrier?
  5. "and still have it declared as an APBT by a breed assessor" this is my point, there is NO one QUALIFIED to ASSES an ABPT in NSW so it is AUTOMATICALLY declared a cross breed No it's automatically assumed to be to be an APBT or a Pit Bull by council , the breed assessor then determines if it's a "cross". If they were all assumed to be a "cross" then there would be no "breed assessment" and you would go straight to tempt test. If you register your dog as a resticted breed cross, that does not give you the automatic right to a "temp test", the dog is still issued with an NOI and subject to breed assessment. There is no temp test available without first having been assessed as a "resticted breed cross" by an authorised assessor. Yes, there are people qualified to assess, they are the "breed assessors" who are approved and authorised under the CAA ETA : To make it a little clearer, you cannot circumvent council by rocking up with a piece of paper that says your dog has been temp tested and passed, therefor it's not a resticted breed. The only way to obtain that TT result is via the breed assessment, then TT by an authorised temp tester. You could have you dog temp tested by anyone at anytime, however if you do so, it will not stop council from issuing you with an NOI. you DONT register you dog as a restricted breed cross, if so your your own worst enemy, and you CANT temp test or breed asses unless you are issued with a NOI, and yes there are people qualified to asses breeds BUT LIKE I SED IN ALL MY POSTS THEIR IS NO BODY IN NSW THAT CAN BREED ASSES AN AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER. what are your sources? if you are going to prove me wrong.

  7. WRONG NOI's have been issued and dogs have failed breed ID and have been declared to be of a resticted breed. There have been many that have been declared to be of a resticted breed cross, the owners then have the option of undergoing a temperament test ( by a person authorised under the act ) at their expense. Any ranger in NSW can suspect your dog to be of a "resticted breed or cross " any authorised breed assessor can declare it to be one. ETA: APBT, if your statement is correct, then there's nothing stopping the OP from doing the right thing, being a responsible dog owner and requesting an NOI from council how is it wrong, my eg if you have American pitbull and you chip and register it as a pitbull then you must comply with the resticted breed laws, but if you have a pitbull and chip and register as a CROSS breed, then when you are issued with an NOI you say you dog is a cross breed not pure, thats why you CANT get papers, then you go onto a BREED id, but like i sed there is no body in NSW for APBT's so it is automatically declared a cross breed therefore you go get a temperament test done. and if you dog passes it lives any any other normal dog would.
  8. Thats why we love em:) great breed, put the effort and bring them up right and u will be rewarded with a companion that is loyal and willing with love as big as anything well put
  9. there is no registration body for APBT's in NSW all dogs must be declared cross bred and are then eligible for a temperament test no one in NSW can say your dog is an purebred American pitbull, so its auto declared a cross, unless you registered it as a restricted breed in the first place. the temperament assessment isn't too hard too pass(the people that did mine told me only around 2% of pit bulls fail

    Feeding Problems

i had the same problem, at one stage it was really bad any she would not touch her kibble. then i stopped all other food, out down her kibble at meal times and if she dident eat it i would take it away till next meal. after a couple of days she go the picture and now she eat her kibble. just remember your dog will not starve it self, it will eat the kibble when hungry enough.

    Colder Nights

my girl is inside with the family all the time were home, and at night she is fine to sleep in here house outside, here in sydney the nights are getting colder and i put her outside and she kept barking, i think becasue of the cold. would it be ok to let her sleep in my bed when the nights are cold? or would that be sending mixed messages about where to sleep. or should i just ignore her untill she finally goes to sleep outside? her kennel is warm and full of blankets and a door i made so its keeps the wind out and the heat in
  18. im not talking a hard slap, like you want to hurt him, just enough so he knows who's boss, otherwise if he knows your scared of him and he will put it over you, he is the dominate one, not you but you can change this quite easily
  19. to be honest, ive had dogs all my life and have had this problem with a few in my times,
  20. my pup had the same sort of this on her belly, mine got it becasue she played on the freshly moved lawn, you vet will show you a chart of plants that cause that sort of rash and you should take them out of you yard, there is one that appears after a decent amount of rain fall, not sure were you live but its been raining the past few weeks here in syd so i had to do a garden check.
  21. has anyone used the supermarket brand exelpet for worms?
  22. my pup wont touch my shoelaces or socks but for some reason she take a fancy to my brothers, she will grab hold while he is trying to walk around the house ect, ive got him to say no firmly and with me the NO command work effectively but she take no interest when he says it. ( and im not always around) any suggestion on what to do, it is not a big problem but just a habit i would like to train out. another thing, when visitors come over my girl has no problem but she does get pretty excited and she mouths our guest hands, she is not doing it to attack at all but just very excited, anyone have this problem or idea to train it out? thanks in advance
