  1. Im not sure about balanced .... hopefully one of the more knowledgeable peeps will answer that for ytou. Seems like a lot of food though. But she is probably highly energetic. I feed one of my Sibe's 400 grams and he weighs 30 kgs. Although I am trying to lose some weight off him.
  2. Can your Dad make Asher a little apartment please?? Will definitely just see how he goes. After I ask the question and you answer it I feel like I should have just known that!! But that's why I have you all for support huh No Cast for him just a bandage. I think I might feel better with a cast but only because it feels more secure in my head!! Cant wait to get him home. 5pm Cant come fast enough
  3. Ok Vet just called. Asher is going great! He's having a bite to eat and putting some pressure on his leg!! They said he seems like his normal self and they are really happy with him  ;) ;) YAY!!!!! Picking him up at 5pm tonight. Cant wait for snuggles. YAY!!!!!
  4. Im still waiting on the Vet to call Or should I just call them? The Vet that is looking after us isnt in till lunchtime so maybe I will just wait til then.....or should I call? aahhhhhhhhhhhh!! Hey Kelly and Clyde, during recovery, did you have your Dogs kennel in the crate/secured area? Im worried getting in and out of the kennel might be a hazard but I want to have it in there because he loves it. In or out?
  5. What great recovery news Clyde!!!! I stoked for you all! I think I will use your 3 weeks as my benchmark I hope she continues to get better and better every day. Please keep us all updated
  6. Im happy the Honey has arrived!! Hope Sasha starts picking right up Kelly
  7. Thanks Kelly ..... actually, I dont know why im saying thanks ..... I didnt go through the bloody Op!! Just got another call from Vet Tony (initial consult Vet from that Clinic) who gave me a little more info, said as he's coming out of the anesthetic he's howling!! Poor Baby. I told the Vet he's not usually a vocal Sibe, but he said its normal when coming out of the sedative. He is going to prescribe a liquid form of Rimaldyn, I think .... he said one then changed to another, actually, i think its a different one. Anyway, Asher is on Morphine at the moment and they are going to keep him in till tomorrow late arvo, just to be thorough and safe. But all good. I miss him. Dr Phil and Oprah were especially over emotional for me today. Asher is a brave little Lad. I just wanna be there to cuddle him tonight though. Dammit!! It will be interesting to see how long before he uses his leg Kelly. Quite a few cases I read about said that post op leg use was in the first 2 days. Shall wait and see.
  8. just got a call from our Specialist. She said the surgery all went very well and that Asher was coming out of the anesthetic as we spoke (poor baby). She said that only 10% of the Ligament had been torn was is a relief for me as it gives me some belief that he was not in too much pain during the past 5 months. She told me that she removed the whole ligament as leaving it could cause pain, lameness and discomfort in the future. She also said that the patella/knee joint looked good and that there was little to no arthritis in the joint. The meniscus was all intact. What a relief its over. Now comes that hard part!
  9. so funny that we are excited about a freezer i asked hubby for a dishwasher for my birthday last year. he thought i was a bloody fool. i hate dishes. i got a dishwasher....... oh happy days!!
  10. I have to stop reading your posts girl they are making me all emo again!! I bet he's gonna be milking it the little bugger!! He is such an attention whore and its gonna be the best time of his life getting everything he wants! Im trying not to let Nooki know anything is wrong. Dont want her to think he is not coming back.... she's walking around a bit aimlessly so im trying to keep her company without over comforting. Might go and brush her for a few hours She loves being groomed!
  11. Have dropped Asher off this morning and damn it I shed a few tears (yep, I am the biggest sook ever) at least the Vet didnt see me cry. Went through the procedure and were told the op would be this morning and it would take approximately 2 hours. They are going to give me a call when its finished to let me know how he went. We can pick him up tomorrow as long as all goes well. Got home and had a cuddle with Nook, then we went on our first walk in weeks!! Feeling it a little now but I know we both needed it to let out some energy. She's buggered now Going to spend the day making sure I have everything ready for the fat boy when he gets home, including low fat veggie smush!! Kelly, thank you. I wouldn't be feeling this prepared without you.
  12. Oh good, I'm not tragic after all! We have a really nice side by side fridge/freezer in the kitchen but for buying up on specials for the dogs it just didn't cut it cos I never had enough room. But now I have a whole freezer just for their food (and a few loaves of bread) and it's awesome cos I can buy as much as I want and know I can easily store it. A few months ago, I would have thought no, I'll just keep some dry on hand for emergencies but really, they have so little of it at the moment, and if I forget to defrost meat, I can always mix up a meal of tinned fish, eggs, cheese and grated veges for them. That take but a few minutes and it's nutritious and a change from their usual. Not tragic at all! ...... or .... maybe im the only other person out there who thinks this is cool :p You've got a great system worked out Gayle. Nothing defrosted and your still sorted. Good on ya Love! Im so jealous of you and your freezer!!
  13. You have a new Sig aswell WS!! Gorgeous!! Thanks for your thoughts Love.
  14. I found that was my hardest thing Gayle, giving up the dry. It was like letting go of an old, easy, convenient friend with very little nutritional value! And a Chest freezer!!! I would be so freakin excited!!!
  15. Love your new signature Miss B Super Cute Pack you have! Thanks for you thoughts lovie. Will need pics of Kyza each day to get me through please
  16. So a few of you have probably read my thread on Asher's diagnosis of a Cruciate Ligament Injury. I have had many people along the way offer me some amazing advice regarding the lead up to surgery and post op. So I decided I would make a Post Op thread that I will hopefully post in every day, so that one day it may help someone else in my situation with the experience we had. Our diagnosis was approximately 3 weeks ago. We were given 3 options for surgery and chose to go for the highly successful Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO). It is performed only by specialists in the field and it will cost us approximately $3000. Since then we have kept him as settled as we could. No Exercise. Limited back yard access (on lead mainly) and less food. We have bought a 1.8 diameter crate made from thick hardy steel to ensure he stays safe from zoomies, Nooki and himself. We have also bought 2 jumbo size dog cushions for maximum comfort while healing. One for Nooki of course. I picked up some Sasha's Blend from Vet & Pet Direct (online, way cheaper than pet shops) and some Rescue Remedy from the chemist to calm us all down when Asher comes home. I have also picked up a few floor rugs and mats as we have floor boards and any slipping may ruin any work done. Its imperative that his post op care is strict and comfortable. Any activity other than toileting in the first 2 weeks may increase the chances of failure. Asher goes in to the Vets in the Morning. He has had his dinner tonight but no more food whatsoever before surgery. His water will be taken away as soon as I get up in the morning, at the Vets request. He will stay in tomorrow night at the Vet (thankfully I don't have to see him come out of the anesthetic) and we will pick him up on Wednesday. We have to keep him as quiet as possible for 4 to 6 weeks. Full recovery is expected to be anywhere from 4 to 6 months. We have another Husky Nooki who adores her brother and wants to play all the time so this will prove the hardest part I think. That is all I will ramble on about for now. I really hope that this thread will be of some help to someone in the future who has to go through the same thing. This is my reason for the thread. I have been offered so much valuable advice and support already, this is my way of paying it back. Here is the link to my first thread regarding his injury for anyone who might need pre-op advice. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=172009 Thanks for reading everyone and thanks for all the support. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
  17. OMG I thought I was hijacking a thread I hadnt posted in!! Good name change YellowGirl
  18. Not sure if they are ok Fainty_Girl, but I know mine have enjoyed a munch on Nannnnas before. Have about 10 banana trees in the backyard are the evidence is often left for me to slip on  for some reason I have a feeling they are not great for them though .... not sure why?
  19. Love your new avatar Huski!!! Daisy looks so adorable!!
  20. Bones can be a little hard to get used to, well for me, I still cant watch Asher too much otherwise he wants to swallow the bone faster and then of course the gag reflex kicks in. I think crushing the bone up in the beginning for Sarge will entice him to gobble instead of chew and crunch. I would also stay away from smaller bones like Lamb necks for example, just until he gets the hang of it. My advice would be to feed lamb shanks. Not the cheapest meal YellowGirl, but its a meat pulling bone (which Sarge is good at) and its not too big that its hard to handle, but its not too small that its swallow-able. You could also try chicken necks or turkey necks. If he tends to gobble them down whole then maybe you could give them a bash just to break them up a little, but keep them in their form, so if he does swallow, its much easier going down that way. You might have some luck starting him of on necks. Tasty little morsels they are!!
  21. The KC defense does look interesting..... but yeah, its a UK product (I think) ...... maybe we could get some someho Understand going to a vet some distance away. I guess my suggestion would be some exercise before getting in the car, to help tone down the excitement (my 2 are nuts in the car) and then if you have someone who can go with you, you can get out a couple of k's before you reach the Clinic and try it that way Not sure if it would help Kelly_Louise, as Sasha is so Vet nervous, but I guess you dont know till you give it a whirl! You poor thing. I really feel for you. I know what your talking about when trying to be confident for her but it is so hard when you know what your in for. I remember watching an episode of the Dog Whisperer with a dog that was Vet nervous. Sounds similar to your Sasha. It took alot of work but they finally got her on the table and semi calm. There was a lot of force used and very little noise from Cesar. After some visits the dog finally got over its fear and it was such a happy ending. Will keep having a look for some info for ya love. I'll probably need some of the similar info myself one day
  22. We are so lucky that Asher and Nooki dont have a problem with the vet. Makes a huge difference. Not sure if this is something you have tried or not, but I recommend a walk or run before the vet visit if its possible. Our Vet is about 3 kms away so we walk there and it tends to take the edge off. Asher is doing just fine K_L. He has a bit of soreness but he is in great spirits. Went to AquaDog last night and had a ball. Asher loved it although 4 laps was one too many. Nooki was her usual princess self and didnt like it very much, but she will learn. Going to go back about 6 weeks after surgery to start hydro physio. Heres a few sites I looked at might interest you lovie ...... but you may have read them already http://www.campbowwow.com/us/il/mchenry/Do...97/Default.aspx http://www.brookbyherbs.co.nz/dhealthkc.htm http://www.good-dog-care.com/kennel-cough.html Treatment of kennel cough Although antibiotics would probably be prescribed as a medication to cure kennel cough, they are best avoided if possible, as they can weaken the immune system just when it needs to be functioning at an optimum to fight off kennel cough and any secondary infections. An excellent natural remedy for kennel cough is KC Defense from Native Remedies. It treats acute kennel cough and other respiratory infections in pets. It's an oral natural vaccine to immunize your pet and prevent kennel cough and other viral respiratory infections. It acts as a preventative just before a visit to the vet or to kennels to protect against infection. For dogs who have contracted kennel cough or any other viral respiratory illness, KC-Defense should help to clear symptoms quickly and improvement is usually evident within one or two days. What will KC-Defense do for my dog? KC-Defense has been sold worldwide for over ten years to thousands of customers in virtually every country around the world. PetAlive KC-Defense is a 100% natural, safe effective herbal and homeopathic remedy with selected biochemic tissue salts for the treatment and prevention of Kennel cough and other respiratory tract infections in pets. It may be used preventatively (especially before visits to the vet, kennels, cattery etc) or acutely to treat an active infection. PetAlive KC-Defense comes in convenient dissolvable granule form. The tiny granules are easy to administer to dogs of all sizes and personalities and are simply sprinkled on the back of the tongue and left to dissolve. When KC-Defense is taken preventatively your pet will be protected from respiratory infections. If an infection should occur, this will be much milder and will resolve far easier. For dogs who have contracted Kennel Cough or any other viral respiratory illness, PetAlive KC-Defense should help to clear symptoms quickly and improvement is usually noted within one or two days. Treatment should be continued for 14 - 21 days after this to prevent a return of the infection. Other things you can do Ensure your dog is eating a balanced, high quality diet with plenty of raw and unprocessed food. Use PetAlive KC-Defense capsules to boost your dog's immune functioning and resistance against disease and infection Avoid exposure to toxins and chemicals as much as possible including pesticides, herbicides, commercial flea collars, flea powder, insecticides and second-hand cigarette smoke. If going to boarding kennels causes your pet undue stress, consider investigating other options. Stress can weaken your pet's immune system and make him more susceptible to infection. Talk to a holistic vet before immunizing your pet. Over-vaccination may stress the immune system unnecessarily. Regular exercise will help to keep your pet's immune system in tiptop form. Small doses of ready-made herbal cough mixtures may ease your dog's cough
