  1. Poor lil Sweep. I hope you get so much better really soon
  2. Yeah Asher seemed ok aswell, but Vet said it needed to come out asap. The hardest part for me was him coming out of the anaesthetic. I slept on the floor while he slept on the cushions!! Yep, I'm a sookie lala for my boy!! Just so you know Teebs I have been feeding all the regular Bones and raw food that I fed beforehand and he never has a problem, even with no cruncher on one side
  3. Asher had one of his pre molars out a few months ago (big bone crunching one at back) and we fed roast chicken for the first 36 hours after surgery (he didnt eat for the first 15 hours) as it is not a teeth sticking food. The vet recommended this for us. For about a 5 days after we fed dry that was mixed with a little warm water to soften and other non chewing food. Then we brought back in the chewy stuff. I didnt bring the bones back in for about 2 weeks though.... probably more of a paranoia thing!!
  4. I used to feed the Bush's beef and chicken until I realised it wasn't what I thought it was. My dogs loved it though. I feed a Barf diet now.
  5. Surely they wouldn't last long at your house ..... going by the photos . I'll definitely give them a go. they last about 2 minutes!!
  6. My Kids Lurve the veggie ears!!! I have heard that rawhide is not a good thing to give them but it never interested mine anyway. Give the veggie Ears a go
  7. Neats I havent tried the Allerblend etc skin diet a go but did try barf. Asher had a terrible run of itchy belly, legs and butt so a change in their diet was needed. It got so bad that I could barely touch him on his underneath and he would shiver and start scratching. There wasnt much hair loss, more insatiable itching. Thought about all possibilities; grass allergies, food allergies etc etc. Tried Cortisone and it worked great.... but wanted to avoid this option if it meant a long term thing. We changed from a commercial diet of tinned food, kibble, chicken necks (once a week) to a Barf Diet which includs Kibble about twice a week. The kibble we use is Royal Canin Sensible 25. Its specifically for dogs suffering allergies with sensitive tummies. Asher barely scratches anymore I believe the change to Barf is 90% responsible. Thank you Barf!! Worked for us :D
  8. Good news about the Pancreas results being negative Erny!! But yeah, double edged sword huh Ya poor bugger.... I cant imagine how frustrating it must be not knowing. Glad that Mandela is Ok, so to speak. I just hope you get an answer soon paws crossed.
  9. I just introduced some Canine Country BARF aswell and my furries love it. OP I found that if you break it up after putting it into their bowls, there is actually more to it than it looks, its just so compressed in the roll.
  10. This was an update I have been waiting for!! Great news Erny! All sounds very promising. Now..... next update, i expect a coffee date update
  11. persephone, i agree. Growing up, we had many many dogs and they were all fed a diet of whatever we could afford. Living on a dairy farm is tough so dry food was their main diet, along with many other unmentionables. feed whatever your dog does well on. Mine did well on Euk, then I found out IAMS test on animals so I will never buy Euk again. I started on a barf diet and the dogs havent looked back since
  12. BARF!!! Forget the kibble, feed what nature intended
  13. HI Psycoco Welcome to the boards! I am not a whole lot of help, but I once saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer where they had a snake caged in the middle of a field. The dog had a shock collar around its neck (these collars are not dangerous for the animal, similar to the Bark collars) and everytime it got within a certain distance of the snake (about 5 metres-ish) he would set it off. The dog went back about 5 times before it realized that getting close to a snake was a bad thing. This is a pretty extreme way of re-educating your dog but it worked and the dog lived. I personally dont think an 18 week old pup would know to stay away from it so do what you can to prevent it going anywhere near the chook pen!
  14. Just on a quick note BARFERS, I was buying some BARF at Uncle Toms the other day and he told me Dr Billinghurts BARF was bought out by someone else and now the ingredients are majority floor scraps and not the impressive ingredients it used to have in it. He doesnt stock Dr B's now for that reason. Can anyone shed some light on the subject? We have never fed the premade before and thought we would give it a go. We bought the Canine Country Barf and the furkids love it!
  15. Grrrrrrrr, My Dogs got this last year and I remember not liking the Vet at the time, now I know why!! Thank fully they are still here today.
  16. If the Vet said the anti-inflams are also painkillers then thats fine (quite often they are combined). Yep, the Stimulus came in handy for me, for some retail therapy afterwards!! Its a lot of teeth to have out at once, I dont envy Daisy, but she will be fine, I can say that with full confidence after going through it! And the roast chicken helps with the glucose level so it will help her come out of sedation better tomorrow..... damn expensive roast chook!!
  17. Hi Kat Hope your ok. Seeing your fur kids like this is a little sad, but Daisy will feel better in the morning. Did you get any painkillers? So I would recommend you keep Daisy's food as easy to eat as possible, so think about things you have seen her eat in the past that she kinda just swallows. My opinion is this is easier for a dog than canned food as they can pick it up with their tongue and throw it straight down. My Vet recommended roast chicken for the first few feeds after the op because it is easy to eat and it doesnt get stuck on new stitches. I also fed Chunkers as i knew my dog basically picked them up and swallowed them. Cut up some steak into small pieces, again, easy for a dog to eat. keep water readily available, dont play fetch for about a week and hopefully Daisy will be feeling better tomorrow, and back to her old self the day after. Zayda_Asher and I both went through tooth extractions, hopefully our banter might help you out some http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=164318
  18. Oh my gosh Baccus you and Mack have been through a lot havent you!! I was a mess 2 weeks ago when Asher had a tooth out.... i feel a little bit silly now after reading your story and recovery Am so happy Mack is doing so well! Good on you for doing everything you did and obviously helping with his speedy recovery
  19. Thats great news Z_A!!!! Im stoked for you all! The stitches are a worry, especially when our fav games involve biting!! Ours were at it on day 2 but we didnt have any probs Its a good feeling when they are back to themselves
  20. Hi 4 Paws I recently had this problem with Asher. His nose was desert dry and cracked, flaky and obviously sore. I asked the good peeps of DOL and they all gave me fab advice, as those up there have also given you. I started on Paw Paw and then moved to Vasoline as Asher liked the taste of Paw Paw way too much!! The vasoline stayed on better being thicker and he didnt lick it as much. I put it on his nose about 8 times a day. I also agree with the feeding after you put it on to distract your dog but all you can do in the end is put it on! It took about 7 weeks before any sign of improvement happened, but it did eventually get better. If you have a plastic water bowl or dog food bowl for your dog change it immediately to stainless steel. The plastic bowls have a substance in the plastic that could be contributing to your dogs dry nose. Sounds silly, but its true! It may not affect your dog, but you never know. Asher was on Cortisone for a skin allergy and as much as the Vet said it was not the tablets giving him the dry nose, I think it was. Only because it started about a week after he went on the tabs, and went away about 2 weeks after he stopped them. coincidence........maybe I hope the advice from everyone helps you and your furkid
  21. Ewww that was gross!!! The pic where you can see the roots is my fav!! Thats some serious holes!! I cant wait to feed bone again. I actually feel like I am depriving them and i've only just started feeding Barf! Couldnt get any chicken necks as I realised after driving to 3 different supermarkets that they are all closed! well, looks like Asher's gums get another day of repair.
  22. Oh no the night sounds a little Distressing Z_A Im so glad she is ok now.... bet it felt like ages instead of just hours. The gagging sounds odd to me...... only because Asher gagged a little the other day. It was probably 5 days after, but he never gags..... unusual, but purely coincidental to say the least! Asher didnt drink much either and he didnt go to the toilet until later on in the day. SO you say on the whole, she's sleepy but her normal self, cool! Sounds like a great recovery! Asher is doing just fine Z_A He was pretty much back to his normal self by day 2. (its been 11 days now) We fed a no chew diet for the first week. It consisted of Roast Chicken (damn spoiled dog!) only on the first day after recovery though, then after that it was mince, tuna, chunkers (meaty balls of meat ) and some diced steak. I started feeding him some dry after that week and he has been totally fine eating that. Gonna get some chicken necks this arvo and give them a go tonight. Im sure he would have probably been fine for these earlier, im just a little cautious I had a wisdom tooth out last year so im using my chewing timeline as a basis for Asher!! I would love to see the pics Z_A! I grew up in a Dairy farm so 21 years of many animals and accidents has given me a hardened tummy. Although, when it comes to people blood...... im passed out on the floor! OH wanted to keep the tooth but I didnt even think of it! Wish I had now! Again, so glad you are all ok
  23. Awww im so happy for you guys!! Sounds like Zayda is doing great! Yay!!
