  1. Thanks for the link Jacqui. I'm with you I think the blue and fawn looks a bit washed out. I love the markings of the Doberman and they are not as easily seen in the paler coat colours. I would have to say the Black and tan are my favourite, they are very striking dogs!
  2. No they aren't but that was their original colour. The first known Golden Retrievers were cream to a light biscuit colour. You will find most of the English dogs are much paler. The American lines are very dark but there is a fine line between dark gold and Mahogany and red, which is a fault. I love these photos which show the colour range of the Golden Retriever. Edit to add, the ones on either end are a fault. In this photo it shows a Samoyed on one end and a Irish Setter on the other. It shows what is acceptable in the middle.
  3. I had this with Archer (Golden) when he was a puppy as his legs were darker than the rest of him and the judge told me I should wash my dog better.
  4. Paw Paw is good and if it's really irritating sometimes holding an ice pack against it will help settle it down quicker.
  5. I don't know if there is a 'popular' colour in Golden Retrievers at the moment. There is actually quite a colour variation in the breed. I have a pale cream and light gold but next I would like one a little darker, more of a mid gold.
  6. I have been a groomer for 14 years and had many hydrobaths. I have had single tanks and double tanks. When I sold my salon I sold the baths. Now I really want a reasonably priced one that is pretty much just a shell. I was never a fan of the recycling water and found I used less water using my own hose attachment than filling up the rinse tank. I would be happy to pay up to around $600 for a fibro shell that comes with an insert for small dogs as a add on. My last bath came from the Barf Shop and I loved colours they had. I would definitely get a pink or purple one if I had the chance!!
  7. Aria 9 weeks Aria 8 months Archer 9 weeks Archer 17 months Daisy 8 weeks Daisy 6 years
  8. I use the vacuum and then one of the pet hair rollers. Works pretty well but with two retrievers I have learned to live with hair.....everywhere!
  9. In my salon the girls got bows in their ears and the boys got one on their collar or a bandana. There were more clients that liked them than ones that didn't. I'm glad you finally found someone you were happy with :D
  10. Yay, new babies My rising star for 2011, Aria, has sort of fizzled in the show ring We love her to bits but she is not too keen on the whole showing thing. She will be 12 months in March 2012 so I am still considering her rising......just slowly Good Luck with all the new babies!!!
  11. My Grandma had two mini poodles and when one lost her sight she would put her head on the males back and he would walk her around. It was so adorable to watch. Animals are incredible.
  12. How tragic, my thoughts and prayers are with the family
  13. My grooming salon was Shampoodles. :D I loved the name so much I went through the hassle of trade marking it until I had to retire due to injury. Try and find something unique. I had Purr-Fect Paws when I first started and it was the only one around at the time but then a lady opened one the next suburb over called Pawfect Paws. It can get confusing.
  14. I have a female desexed Shih Tzu 6 years, a entire male Golden Retriever 17 months and an entire female Golden aged 8 months. My three get a long great and size isn't much of an issue. I have had two males with no problem but this is my first time with two females together. So far so good, but my golden is pretty laid back. It now comes down to if you want to add more hair to the mix......if not, get the poodle
  15. I thought you may be talking about Damauren Kennels on Attunga Rd, Greenbank. I've only driven past it and seen the signs, never in there. I have never boarded a dog at Furkids but I highly recommend the staff there. They are breeders and showies and are a wealth of knowledge. I would be comfortable boarding my dogs with amazing staff like them around.
  16. That Greenbank property is up for sale and has been for a while. I have no experience with the boarding kennel but I would be a bit concerned if you were booking a fair way in advance and they sold the property you could be left in the lurch. Furkids are great and every time I'm there I see the boarding dogs out on their walks. There are many great people that come to your house. I had a lovely lady out of the Jimboomba times come and look after my guys. Maybe have a look in the paper?
  17. Noooo, you can't change it Leah. It still makes me laugh My Shih Tzu's name is Daisy, it was taken, so I chose Crazy Daisy. It's what we call her on a daily basis.
  18. This is the case with Golden Retrievers. They hold their tail out when on the move so when stacked it creates a nice outline and shows a straight top line. Some exhibitors free stack with the tail wagging and depending on the judge I try and show both ways.
  19. Oh I know BB, he will be 18 months on the 29th of Nov and I am entering shows for December now. That's what makes it even more confusing.....trying to work out how old they will be in a couple of months time when you are filling out entries late at night
  20. Thanks guys, I think I will keep her down in puppy. It seems to make sense. Good idea about the separate classes GW. I was wondering what would happen when Aria and Archer caught up in age groups. I hadn't seen the other classes before and I don't remember them at our speciality this year, maybe they don't always offer them. Thanks again :D
  21. Hi all, As the topic states I need help understanding the different classes. Aria will be 9 months soon so that makes her now eligible for Puppy, Junior, Graduate, Aus-bred, Open and I think Novice (she has won her class many times in champ shows and been bitch challenge in an open show, so I don't know if she's still eligible). Archer is nearly 18 months so he can be entered in Intermediate, Limit, Aus-bred and Open. I am really confused as what classes they should be entered in to. I have always just entered Archer in whatever age class he is eligible for. I am now about to move him up to Intermediate. Why would you enter them in other classes? What are they for? I don't think I've ever seen a Golden entered in Graduate, Novice or Limit before in Brisbane. Now I'm thinking about it. Would that make the judge know your dog hasn't been doing well if you enter them in one of those classes I just mentioned above? Thanks
  22. If you find out which is his car, get a groomers card and put it under his windscreen wiper. Maybe he will take the hint.
