  1. Did you just add oil to his food or did you change the food you gave them altogether? He did have some flakey bits the other day when I was going through his fur.
  2. We do have a large garden but I am unsure what plants are in there. He hardly goes near the garden that I am aware of. He isn't harming himself from his scratching, it seems he is just getting agitated with the scratching. He goes about his normal way then will stop all of a sudden and start to scratch, generally around his behind and near his neck.
  3. He has been this itchy before without the fleas yes. I haven't washed him that much I didn't think. The last time I washed him was a few weeks ago when he got the fleas. So maybe I should change his diet and see how that goes?
  4. My poor boy can't stop scratching! I don't know what else to do. He did have fleas a few weeks back but I have since treated him for them and haven't seen any since. That was the first time he had fleas. Now he is still scratching. What could the cause be? I'm feeding him dry food (Optimum) and chicken necks daily. Everytime I bath him he still scratches and I have been using medicated shampoo. Apart from maybe the possiblity of his food which he has been on for a while I can't think of anything else. Any ideas?
  5. thinking of doing this for my pooch. I am a bit wary about the injection to due to the reports I have heard.
  6. I worry when I just leave Jet home alone Just in case he hurts himself, finds a way to escape or get's taken. I guess I am mostly afraid that if I am not there then I can't help him if something bad happens. I hate leaving him at home every morning when I leave for work. If I could bring him with me everywhere I would.
  7. OH used to think I was an idiot for calling myself Mummy to our dog Now he does it more then me! We only really do it at home when we are playing with him. For example the other night I got home late and I was talking to Jet asking him 'Did Daddy play with you and feed you tonight?' I don't have a problem with it we have no real kids at the moment.
  8. I have own a fox terrier and a mutt but I want an Aussie so bad! Never had one but adore them. My fiancé wants an English Stafford or a Labrador for our next dog though so I can see us compromising on the Labrador if it suits us.
  9. Yep normal. My dog Jet is a desexed 2 year old. He is shocking when it comes to marking. He has marked in the house a couple of times but now has stopped, apart from the spare bedroom a couple of nights ago but that was the first time he had access to that room. I only discourage it inside by telling him 'no' and then I put him either outside or in his crate. I know it can be very frustrating especially in other people's yards, house etc.
  10. I am with PIA, I have never claimed though so can't comment on that side of things but there customer service, offers and prices for insurance suited me great.
  11. Our have been human names but they suit them! We had Casper when I was a kid who was a maltese x poodle. She was entirely white and it suited her! My aunty owned her brother who was called Jasper. My family dog is called Jessie (my OH's name is Jesse too :D I was the one who picked her name 10 years ago too, a bit of a weird coincidence) it suits her well though. OH & I wanted Jethro (Jet for short) to be our baby boys name if we ever have one but once we got Jet the name Jet just suited him so I am unsure if Jethro will ever be our kids name now ;)
  12. I saw that on ninemsn just before. The picture freaked me out and made me pretty sad. The poor thing!
  13. ahh I work Sunday's now ;) Otherwise I would be there.
  14. I have recently moved my dog from being with my families dog 24/7 and having people surround him all the time. The first week he has been whining a little and seeking a lot more attention then usual but we have given him as much time as we can and he is getting a lot happier. We make sure he has everything he needs during the day to stay happy, like toys etc and then when we get home we play his favourite game of fetch and he gets quality time with us as well as a walk most days.
  15. Not necessarily. They might fence fight or wind each other up. Oh no I hope not. If you don't want that to happen I suggest you find a way of permanently separating JJ from the place in the fence where they interact. It doesn't have to be flash.. a line of star pickets (make sure you put caps on them) and some chickenwire would probably do the trick. Thanks PM, We will see what we can do!
  16. Not necessarily. They might fence fight or wind each other up. Oh no I hope not.
  17. My other concern is there barking.... Once they get used to each others presence that shound end right?
  18. Thanks for the advice! I hope we are allowed to do something like that. This dog seems friendly enough to us when our dog isn't there. He seems to have the same personality as our dog where he is really good around people but not good around new dogs. So I am hoping it will be easy to stop.
  19. Can you put up some lattice (or some other material) and secure it to the fence? Even if the other dog is friendly it is not wise to let them have that sort of access to each other. Best to be on the safe side Good luck! I am not sure. As we don't own the house, but I will find out!
  20. I finally have my boy Jet home. The yard at our new home wasn't suitable for him yet and several months later it is ready! He is at the back door whining as we speak but I know if I ignore him he will give up. I just wanted some of you savvy dog lovers to confirm I am doing the right thing. He isn't allowed inside on the carpet and most of the house is carpet apart from the 2 way bathroom and laundry so until I get a baby gate he needs to be shut in the laundry or crated when inside. He is used to being inside whenever he wants and also when outside having the company of another dog, so it is a big change for him. Ok my main concern is that there is a mutt next door who comes up to the fence and starts barking at Jet whenever we have him here. They can both fit there heads through the gate so it has me concerned a bit as I don't want them to harm each other. I am unsure if that will happen considering I don't know the neighbours dog. Now the next door neighbours dog insinuates the barking then Jet barks back. We were out there earlier with him on a lead near the fence and I was using the 'look' command and 'sit' command to make him focus on me, which worked most of the time. Next time I will make sure I have cheese his favourite treat but this time I was using verbal praise. If I continue this every day with him on the lead getting him to focus on me when the other dog is there would this be the right way to get him to ignore this dog or not worry about him in the future? I need him to be able to accept this so I can have him out there unsupervised if need in the future. Tomorrow we are at work so I am going to crate him while we are not here but I don't want to do that all the time if I can help it.
  21. We have agreed to compromise on everything that involves the dog. He isn't aloud on the carpet in our house. Fair enough because Jet cocks his leg a lot! (drives me crazy) We have also planned to extend the fencing to under our large patio so he gets more room undercover, which was my wish. OH can be pretty soft when it comes to Jet though, he insists Jet sleeps on our bed because he loves his cuddles.
  22. Thank you. Good to know others have done it without an issue!
  23. Thanks for the tip! I guess so about him being wet If it is raining we will probably just be at the camp site a lot more then actually taking walks on the beach and everything. He doesn't have any coat so I guess he will just have to get wet! He loves water so that wasn't the issue it was more him getting bored and possibly barking or something like that that could disturb others.
