  1. Fair enough, I agree first hand accounts would be interesting as well, I just thought it was an interesting topic...
  2. Erny I'd guess that the consistency with a clicker (or a solid yes) is so much better/easier for the dog to work with than the average owner's verbal reinforcement (which vaires is length, pitch, probably sometimes even varies in the actual word)
  3. Surely that's photoshopped!?!
  4. WTF is that!? What a monster!
  5. I'm crying just reading this, don't know what I will do with Petey if we find ourselves in that situation. I worry I would be so upset I would scare/upset him.
  6. YUM! Lunch sounds great! Thanks so much for doing the organising ness and kelpiemum! Mrs Bucket don't worry about being a beginner, I'm a total novice - many Adelaide DOLers already know how bad Pete's manners are around other dogs, so I'm just waiting for the Steve look of disapproval
  7. I have a no bed rule, but Pete's been housebound for a while with a sore paw so I've let him up on my bed in the hope that more comfort would make him more likely to stay lying down and resting. Problem is I loved having him on the bed and now I want it all the time
  8. When I'm going through the normal moves with some treats, the drops, heels and stays etc, Pete get's very excited/aroused. I hold my hands out, palms up, and say 'it's all gone' and then go off and do something else, it doesn't really stop him arousal but he calms down pretty quick anyway
  9. Sorry for your loss Beatrice, it sounds like you gave Bear (and Sheba) a wonderful forever home after their tough lives. My thoughts are with you.
  10. Vet wasn't concerned. He said there is a bit of infection there, gave me antibotics for him to take, and said he wasn't going to bother bandaging it cause Pete would just take it off and fresh air is probably going to be good for it :D He said to get one of those head things if his licking is too much, but it should heal up fine Thanks everyone
  11. Thanks, I hope so! An hour and a half of worrying to go :p :D Yeah not sure if it was the chicken or the egg in this case. What is the treatment for them stormie?
  12. Thanks :p I know I feel so bad for him, hope this doesn't turn into one of those horrible 'should have done something sooner' things :D
  13. Just tried to take picture and its not clear at all, sorry!
  14. The top of Pete's paw got nicked when it was being groomed last wednesday, the lady put some stuff on it and that was fine. He's been licking it heaps but was all good, he's had little nicks before that have heeled up fine. Today he has been limping, and I looked at the sore and it now looks like a crator, like it's quite deep (under a cm) and looks like an ulcer I think. I am keeping a close eye on him and not letting him lick, he's not moving around much I figure he must be in some pain, and I soaked his paw in warm salty water (thought that was the safest bet). He's booked in to the vet in 2 hours but I'm worried about him, has anyone had any experience with this in the past? I can add a photo but its pretty gross
  15. Fran I'm so glad you posted this topic because I often feel the same way with Pete, and it's reassuring to here so many great stories! I do often get jealous when I read about peoples dogs lying at their feet while they are at the computer, but it's good to hear I'm not the only one with a super affectionate dog!
  16. Sorry had a thought after I posted. Pete was itchy and had some bumps, vet said he thought it was seasonal allergies, got a cortisone cream for it and said if this doesn't do the trick come back. So I don't know if that counts as a 'just in case' option or not? ADD: it DID do the trick
  17. Hi everyone, I remember when this topic started - great to see it's still going - good work Daisy! I probably walk Pete 4-5 days a week, it can be so hard to find the time when you're worrying about a million other things, or when it's cold and still dark in the morning. The worst thing for me personally is that when Pete walks its like he is on a mission to sniff out every single dog/cat he can - he's always stalking around for them and when he finds one he gets so revved up (all playful - with the dogs anyway - would hate to see what would happen if I let him chase a cat) but it makes walking rather unenjoyable if I go when others are out with their dogs.. Was all set to jog off eater eggs this morning but it's very wet in Adelaide today so I think we'll have to settle for a morning in, hopefully we'll get out this evening if it clears..
  18. I'm in for shared lunch too Oh and I found somewhere to walk Pete offlead - thanks for the PM's
  19. - sorry! Can I go OT for a second and hijack this board please Does anyone know of any parks/reserves around Adelaide that are pretty empty that I could take Pete to go for a good run. He's not reliable on recall, but Id love to go for a bike rides with him off lead to let him stretch his legs, so I'd love to find somewhere with more space than a dog park..
  20. That's why I paid direct deposit, so that I could email them my receipt of payment, is there any way you could pay by direct deposit? Otherwise maybe just email them to confirm you are posting tomorrow. I think your spot is on hold for 48hours though, so in that 48 hours it won't be sold out, because you've got that spot on hold, if that makes sense?
  21. Oh that's a little reassuring - at least mines quite! (possibly famous last words) We never did the crate thing so I will be the one getting the unimpressed looks while everyone's dog is nicely in their crate and mine is jumping around on the end of the lead... that's ok, maybe Steve will just use Pete as the 'example' ADD: you're two were both beautifully quite at the last meet - also just plain beautiful, I fell in love with their gorgeous shiny coats!
  22. Have booked and paid for 8th of May ... Now you can all rest assured your dog won't be the worst behaved there! Ness thanks again for doing all this organising!! Really appreciate it
