  1. and then there's this bizarre comment by Hugo's owner:
  2. BC Crazy, do you call Stella when she runs to the other dog and that is why she comes back to you? I know she is a very obedient girl and I just had a thought that she might be running toward the other dog to get you to call her away? Terri, I like your DIY harness signs :)
  3. Have you actually read the whole story? His owners only gave a shit about Hugo when he was going to be euthanised. Other than that, they obviously didn't care about his wellbeing or the wellbeing of the general public. Yes they had seven warnings to fix their fencing to stop him from wandering. And even as Hugo was impounded waiting a decision they still did not bother to fix their fencing. I think that really sums up how much of damn they gave. Sometimes accidents can happen and dogs get out. That is quite different to having a long-term confinement problem.
  4. Gosh really! Only about an hour ago I was thinking how much she herself could do with some psychotherapy. Everything I've seen her write is laden with wild cognitive distortions.
  5. Can only think that it is easier for them to sit on their arses in fantasy land on facebook than cope with the reality of the real world. That would mean actually getting off the computer, moving & fixing fences & dealing with the real issue Both owners & dog are lost causes really. Sad. You've said it all, really, Christina. Yes that's what I suspect
  6. I really liked your post T. And yes her reply was so delusional
  7. ok, I don't do competitive obedience or agility so you can take what I'm saying with a grain of salt :) If you can find a good training school then I think that's a really good way to go. That doesn't mean you can't do your online stuff too. Going to a good club can give youg an outsider's perspective on your dog training, can provide you with some structure and make your dog familiar with an environment that is similar to a competition environment. I definitely agree that having a dog with a low value for other dogs and people makes life so much easier. I think a good training club can also assist with this. good luck with your new puppy :)
  8. It is so frustrating that they can't spare any effort to actually contain him, but are have plenty of energy to start a social media campaign.
  9. Could you just show him anyway? Digby was shaved around his chest for medical purposes and there seemed to be no sign of it regrowing even 8 weeks later.
  10. I had to laugh at the thundershirt working for only one day! That's not particularly helpful!
  11. far out! Why do these people never learn!? it just astounds me! I'm so sorry you and Justice had to go through that, it would have been very scary. You did really well to take photos and get right on to reporting it. Hopefully the council can do something about this guy. Give Justice some tummy rubs from me.
  12. When I picked up my first boy dog after he'd been castrated I asked them if they had really done it, I was expecting to see no sack! That skin shrinks over a period of a few months after desexing until it becomes hardly visible. Mr Digby had a little rudder for the rest of his life though. In terms of desexing vs vasectomy, from my experience with rescue and foster caring, if the dog was a bit unwell then typically they would just wait until he was well before getting him castrated rather than doing a less invasive procedure.
  13. I agree Leah, I have incorporated a lot of our own games of choice, including at every exit point of the house and yard, and this has been hugely successful, but also put us a bit behind :) but that's ok. I really need to do it with the cars too. She's not too bad, but its not as good as it could be. I'm sure you'll get there in the end with Collie :) I wonder if it could be useful for him to wear a thundershirt maybe?
  14. Sounds like a good plan :) How did you go asking the trainer whether she had had much experience with reactive dogs?
  15. Snook, I am so pleased to see Justice having such a good time with Pax. Definitely a huge positive step for him. He just looks so relaxed and happy :)
  16. That does sound like a stressful experience Terri, but honestly it sounds like you handled it well. Might be a time to walk really early in the morning, to avoid people until your consult with Erny.
  17. I am terrible with record keeping I'm at the end of my third year in my degree, and keeping notes starts to feel a bit too much like uni work, and not enough like having a fun time with my dog. No training for us today as miss Del has an upset tummy. I am really pleased with our progress from doing recallers. I have learnt some really, really important things. Like building value, then you can use consequences if you need to. Also not C.R.A.P! And Del and I have had a lot of fun playing these games, and her recall is going great  There have been a few struggles, for instance, all the RZ stuff means she sometimes gets a little confused when I'm asking her to return to my front and she's been going crooked! Also I think I will still be doing some luring in the future. Although I am working hard to develop solid hand touches that will be more suitable for luring than the poke-style hand touches :)
  18. I don't think you can say a single ingredient causes diabetes, that's a bit simplistic. Also that link mentions diabetes in young dogs which could very well relate more to the auto-immune version of diabetes... and therefore really have nothing to do with rice.
  19. OT, Yeah MRB, I think we still have a tendency to think of the mind and the body as separate entities, which of course isn't true at all. In fact I think in the next few decades we will start to do away with the concept of the mind at all, at least in academic-land anyway :) Although not if the cognitive psychologists have anything to do with it!
  20. Haha all you norty people who can't list just one things tsk tsk :) Clearly, we all have such excellent dogs! :)
  21. I actually wasn't completely satisfied with the ingredients list too, and that's what made me decide to not go through with buying the food, despite lots of happy reviews here. And that is just me being honest :)
  22. One thing I just love about my dog is that she sings to ambulance sirens. It's a very odd sound, not quite a howl, not quite a cry. Even when she's asleep when the ambulance goes past she will still sing, in her sleep! She's such a funny bugger :) ok, now it's your turn... tell me one thing you just love about your dog :)
