  1. I use the Squirt Coconut spray and shine too makes them smell wonderful !
  2. I would say I still have a long way to go but my Wei is a highly sensitive dog - to noise, new environments among many others I found I had to find something that drove her past her fears - in her case a *prey drive* for her ball, I also developed a strong relationship bond with her that she now trusts me in practically all situations, we still need work but she's at the point where I can take her out and know I have full control I no longer have to worry about *scaries* or shutting down when pressured she now trusts me enough to believe I won't put her in a bad situation. We compete in agility, obedience and soon to be flyball and gundog working tests - things I wouldn't have even thought I would be able to achieve when we first started. I'm sure K9 will have plenty of ideas about this senario too, so shall watch this thread. edit: just to prove anything is possible when it comes to our wonderful companions
  3. Yep thats the brand I was referring to, thanks Hesapandabear
  4. Brush their teeth - I use a finger brush and doggy toothpaste - cinnamon and Tea tree, You can find these items at any good pet store. Also the tea tree will get rid of any nasty bacteria too
  5. I feed the BARF diet via Dr Billinghursts barf patties and 50% rmbs. I have found a remarkable difference in my dogs since using the diet, their coats are better, teeth are wonderful (I used to have to clean teeth at least weekly and I haven't really had to bruch them at all since on the diet), no irritated skin and it smells alot better going in and coming out They are also much happier with their food - they fill fuller and they clean out their bowls completely, no more biscuits left in the bottom. As for the air conditioner - yes it can cause sneezing if the filter has dirt/spores on it, a good way of avoiding this is to blow it (as in just on fan instead of air-con) for 5-10 mins before and after switching on or off.
  6. Thanks to everyone for their responses. I've been in contact with the Vet. Board and they have also rung me we have discussed the matter and they have told me what to do and what steps to take so together we will sort out the matter and shall be consulting the vet again this arvo with them. thankyou
  7. I didn't know she was licking the floor as soon as I did I picked her up and took her to the other side of the room. Debbi I do that with the bigger dogs (the Saints and Wei) - leaving them in the car til we need to go in but as is was just the pup and my sisters small dog we took them in (also gets the baby used to the vet clinic noise) - Not sure about the travelling vet but shall ask saca the only vet that advertises in the journal is too far from us Never said they should mop the floor cordy but I do think they should disinfect (generally spray) any mess and the exam table before the next patient. By the way it says KC is airborne (3m general area after coughing) but also by saliva I've emailed the Vet board and we'll go from there.
  8. Well done Warley thats something I will be doing in the future in regards to seeing the room/table sprayed before my dogs go in. Unfortunately as my dogs are large their trolley/crates wouldn't fit through the clinic door
  9. Rappie this is the only source the dogs could have got it from as they are inside dogs, unfortunately the pup has brought it home from the surgery and now passed it onto one of our other dogs which we have quarantined away from any of the others. It seems like talking with the Board and making a complaint is the way to go.
  10. I agree anyone would rather wait until it was cleaned Is it worth a complaint to the Veterinary surgeons board ?
  11. Just wanting some thoughts/opinions/facts on this senario. You take your dogs to the vet for a vaccination and microchipping. You notice the dogs before you are coughing and stay well clear. The vet guides you into the consulting room after the dogs before you have finished and you walk in and find that your dog is now sniffing and licking saliva left on the floor by the previous patients, after being in there for a while the vet finally decides to disinfect/clean the floor where the saliva is - obviously too late. Now a few days later your dog starts showing the same symptoms as the dogs in the clinic and you ring your vet to find that your dogs have contracted the same infection/virus as the previous patients. Now doesn't the vet have a duty of care to provide their patients with a clean consulting room which should be cleaned before you are ushered in ? what would you do ?
  12. Just out of interest guys is it a continuous dry cough or only every hour or something ? Also Buster's mum would you care to elaborate on the holistic treatment you use ?
  13. I'd definately take him to another vet pronto !
  14. I have had brilliant results since switching to the Barf diet overall - the dogs coat & teeth are gleaming, they're much happier and content with their food and completely clean out their bowls AND the food actually smells much better going in and coming out ;)
  15. It's just a brand of shampoo, condition, shine spray, detangler etc which comes in some yummy smell like, coconut, pina kolada and Kahula. You can get it from most pet stores/suppliers both online and off.
  16. SQUIRT !!! I absolutely this stuff !
  17. Well in SA it's obviously not forbidden - don't know how many times I've ridden past a police car with the officers waving and smiling
  18. No she's on my left when riding if you have a look the handlebars are facing the camera, so she's on the curb side. Best of luck for the ET Netti - I'm sure it's going to be fun (although I'm trying to drag someone so we can ride roughly half each - otherwise I'm going to be stuffed !) Just remember although you can use this attachment for training you can't actually use it in the trial.
  19. Thats great Nickyp, I think you will be pleasantly surprised Horus - I would have loved one of those sulkies for my dogs but just a bit too expensive
  20. The best thing about the walky dog is that it's attached to your bike (under the seat) therefore your dog has the full weight of the bike and the rider - they learn that pulling gets them no where - where as a dog on just a lead only has to pull moderately and it can destabilise the rider and bike. I'm sorry you lost your confidence nickyp, I can tell you now my girl at the start I never would have even tried to bikeride her holding the lead as she definately would have caused an accident and I, like you would have lost my confidence - she was just too strong and too eager to pull but now she will happily and nicely gait alongside the bike to the point where I will be entering her in the ET trial next year (where you can't use any attachments)
  21. I did it slowly at first with my girl to let her get used to the bike and that I wasn't going to run over her They do catch on quickly. Teaching steady, stop and leave it is also helpful as well as have good brakes Jokes aside it doesn't take them long to get used to it and learn to follow the bike
  22. I uas the Walky Dog attachment and swear by it nickyp - definately worth convincing you and OH to buy one as if the dogs pulls the spring takes most of the strain - even when my dog has been pulling really hard (when I first started using it - at other animals to play ) I've never been pulled over at all just feel like a little tug.
  23. I have a quick question - sorry to kidnap your post WS, I just want to make sure I'm feeding my new pup correctly (for obvious skeletal and performance soundness) as I just would like to run this past the more experienced DOL barfers. Vizsla pup currently weighing 8kg, 13 wks - 1 1/2 patties (divided into 1/2 pattie meal 3 times a day - this I believe increases as her weight increases ?) - 6-7 chicken wings / same weight in necks or wing tips (I believe this also increases ?) - 1/2 a chicken carcass every 2/3 days Does that sound correct ? - should I be supplementing anything/changing values on the above - any ideas ? I'm only asking as I want her to have the best start and being very new to this diet I'm a bit blinded by all the info and ideas.
