  1. I must be lucky, my vet is fully supportive of the BARF/raw diet - provided it's being fed properly of course.
  2. I would think that the tea tree oil would strip the coat competely of it natural oils, like some someone said above drying the coat out.
  3. Chicken carcass chicken wings chicken necks turkey necks lamb/sheep necks (fed raw of course)
  4. I agree with whats been said, I'd definately say something. It really gets to me these double standards - a small dog being uncontrolled is ok (by their owners and some others) but a larger dog doing the same thing would be frowned upon. Every dog needs to be under control not just those with longer legs.
  5. BARF also means Biologically Appropriate Raw Food
  6. The only bones dogs should be allowed to eat fully are soft non weightbearing bones. Heavy weightbearing bones like those pictured in the article (which I don't give) should only be given under supervision and taken aways when they get down to the bone itself - not really cost effective anyway. They say the thigh bones on humans are as strong/hard as concrete - so you have to wonder how dense these bones are in larger animals.
  7. agree with everyone above, yep the dogs love 'em
  8. I feed a whole egg shell and all.
  9. Thanks Norskgra So is 12 mths the time when they get their adult coat ?, and how long til it is full adult length ?. Now you said the standard states that the coat must develop naturally - so is the show coats you see in the ring (long on legs and follows the body up - shorter in mid region - then back down again) is how the coat is naturally with no trimming ?. And one last question (I promise ) Do you have to keep the hair banded (like capanash's poodles) to keep it in top condition or is it versatile enough to cope with daily activities ?.
  10. This is why I love my gundogs - wash and wear The pap is fairly easy too, though the Saint's take about 2hrs for show bath/groom/dry. I've often dreamed of having a standard poodle/afghan but don't really have any idea how to keep them in show coat. Capanash - do you have to keep them in bands constantly and only out for shows? Obviously you need to scissor/trim between shows but by doing so do you need to give them a full clipping session every 6wks or does the constant trimming keep them ok ?. Norskgra - I know you afghan's still a baby but can you tell me how long it takes to fully/mait. groom an adult afghan ?. I saw on a program they shave the belly of the afghan's is this with show stock too ? I apologise for all the questions but I'm geniunely interested to find out.
  11. The only thing you can't feed them is egg white by itself. I'd try the egg, sardines or omega oil. If you're still not happy try Biolac coat conditioner - Livamol only enchances 'chestnut/red' colourings in the coat.
  12. Because the dog's gut isn't able to break down the cellulose in the plant's cells, therefore by pureeing/juicing the vegetables you have damaged the cell wall enough to enable the dog to digest the vegetable matter. In the wild the dogs would be getting their required vegetable matter by eating theirs preys stomach (contents and all) in doing so the vegie matter has already been partly digested - similiar to us pureeing/juicing the vegies for our companion dogs, enabling them to aquire the vits/mins from the plant matter.

  14. A couple of herbs I would look into using are (if you are interested in natural remedies) - Burdock root Arctium lappa , a blood cleanser. Licorice root Glycyrrhiza glabra , an anti-inflammatory also aids the adrenal glands which produce the body's natural cortisone, and Yellow dock Rumex crispus which is commonly used for skin conditions (dry itchy skin) -blood cleanser, it aids in the elimination of toxins.
  15. Here's the web address to the place where we get our supplements from - very well priced with fast efficient service, plus no fillers :D www.countrypark.com.au
  16. Hazz, do you use this to prevent injury? the product I mentioned does also contain msm. Yes we use it to both prevent injury and aid in recovery but since using the supplements for prevention we have not had any injuries. You will find that most glucosamine/chondroiton products will have some form of msm as it helps them both work more effectively.
  17. We used glucosamine but more recently msm - such products are actually cheaper from herbal places we use - Country Park Animal Herbs.
  18. Are any plants flower at the moment ?. Any new bedding (ie material change ?) What type of flea treatments do you use - have you recently changed product ?.
  19. I decided against re-using this vaccine with my dogs after speaking it over throughly with several vets.
  20. Your correct 150gm twice daily (of barf pattie or 150 patty to 150 rmbs) - for a directed weight of 30kg but Dr B also says for simple obesity to dilute the patties with low glycemic vegetable pulp from your juicer.
  21. good old bumbag for me everytime
  22. Some people do some people dont - if your interested in a particular insurance company read thoughly on what it excluded. Many people open a new bank account for their dogs and put in a weekly deposit - this seems like a good option too, nothing's excluded though there is a risk of not having much $ when first starting
  23. No Kibble whatsoever and they're looking the best they ever have
