  1. Hi I have always had big dogs and my husband doesn't like them in the house. They come in one at a time in the nights rotating. I haven't had an inside dog ever and next year i'm looking thinking of getting a smaller breed to show. If i have it inside in the day ("it " cause i don't care if its male or female at this stage i'm still in the thinking stage) when i'm at work let it out whn i get home how long do people leave them outside for do they need a certain amount of sunlight to ensure they grow properly we don't get any directsun inside our place as we have a verandah right the way around. The dog would be confined to the hard surface areas until it was at least toilet trainined amd not going to destroy the whole house Would it get enough exercise being inside/ My big dogs are in runs when we are at work and play with toys and run around etc but was worried that an inside dog wouldn't get enought attention. Oh i'm looking at a jack as i want to show and do obedience and agility. Also does the dog thats inside all the time become a bit blarzay about its owners if its with them all the time and then not want to do things like obedience and agility? Like i said i haven't commited to anything actually haven't even looked at breeders etc just sorting out some thing in my head.
  2. My two dogs play very rough together both as bad as one another. Does anyone have any solutions for this they are locked in individual runs when we are at work as we only have farm fencing not that they have ever tried jumping it but rather play it safe. They don't hurt each other and its definately play if one walks away the other wants more and that role is continually swapping. If i call them they stop immediately but will go back again and do it until they are both buggered. Is it a problem? I would really like to get a smaller breed to show sometime next year and am worried they will rough house a pup. I would be able to keep the pup seperate i want it to be more an inside dog whic leads to my next post
  3. I very rarely post on here but feel its time to "commit" I would love to get back into the trial ring its been about 6 yrs since i trialled my dog has epilepsy so i'm hoping that will be controlled and we can have a go so at least enter a novice obedience and AD and JD trials. She is more than capable but my damm nerves get the better of me.
  4. All i can say is oh dear my poor dog.... No wonder she doesn't turn well no wonder she runs past the tunnel after watching myself its a wonder she does as well as she does.... I really reccommend everyone tape a training session we did it for fun tonight but wow what a learning curve next week at training we are all going to go and run the course without our dogs first like a trial. BTW i'm no where near ready to trial aand only took the camera as its new to try it out.
  5. Hi My dalmatian has had that before i have found the best thing to treat it is vaseline caked on really thinck reason for that is that it seems to come when her skin dries out. I also spray repelex on the ear/s to prevent flies. It takes a coouple of weeks to heal. I have never had an infection so no need for me to use betadine. I also take their collars off as the head shaking then makes the ear flaps hit on the collar. You might want to make sure that there isn't a reason the dogs shaking its head ear mites etc can make them shake their heads and then cause the ear to split.
  6. Friends of ours just came to our place yesterday and brought their boxer with them she gets terribly car sick they gave her one travel calm tablet human ones from the chemist and bingo no vomit and not even any whinging it also didn't make her sleepy so owuld be good for trials or shows etc
  7. Thats fantastic to hear how the girls are going. The oldy i have here is going so well i have had to cut her food back she is looking more like a spotty coffee table.... Well done and thanks to everyone
  8. Hi I might seem harsh but i find it hard to understand how people have overweight dogs to me its a simple equation food in should equal energy levels maybe you can save yourself some money and cut its food back. Humand on the other hand can walk to the cupboard and help themselves dogs can only eay what we give them Apologies for seeming harsh but after just seeing the hugest fattest dog i have ever seen (taking after its owners) its quite upsetting to see an overweight dog killing them with kindness
  9. I had a friends dog we were mind come with something that looked exactly like that i sprayed some human tineaderm on it cleared it up really quick and no one (dogs, cats and humans) got it
  10. Hi Vet thinks my dog has epilespsy. I am wondering if nay one has had any experience with diets that may help before we head down the medication path. Its pretty mild only 4 petty mal (sp??) seizure this year so was hoping ther was something i could do.
  11. In our local area which is rural the rural lands protection board newletter we got a few months back said that for every fox you see there are 12 out there that you don't see. OMG thats a lot of foxes. We are lambing at the moment so we lock our ewes and lambs up in the shed everynight this is the only way we have found to stop losing lambs. We often hear the foxes calling in the night i think its a mating call just not too sure
  12. i'm not a breeeder( have owned shown and trialled purebred registered dogs for over 20 yrs) but have to agree with Steve sorry but any dog being bred with who has a known genetic problem seems a bit insensitive to the new puppy owners who i hope would be informed about the mother condition. Why breed would someone like to enlighten me. Glad your bitch is ok hope her next vet visit is for desexing. sorry but this is something i feel very strongly about after myself recently being misled by a breeder who is very well known in the show rings.
  13. We have never used it but on the local hockey fields they have it on the surface its only been down this season its used every weekend and 3 nights a week and its showing signs of wear i know my dogs would definately dig through it. We also used it in a demonstration team to stop the slippery shopping centre floors a few years ago and we had to replace it every 2 years. So i think you would need to spend alot of money to use artifical turf in a backyard and have it laid properly. Good luck thats about my only experience

  16. When one of mine had an op she didn't want to eat that night i just gave her a little drink and she was ok in the morning and scoffed her tea. I bet she will feel better after a big sleep and no whiskas container in her belly dals will eat anything wont they Hugs to tilly when i read she was done in time i was thinking the next words were going to be that she was pregnant....
  17. She looks wonderful. Found out she did have an oops litter to her brother ..... might explain some poo eating having said that my old girl now at rainbow bridge used to love a feast of poo so gross she got to the point she wouldn't eat it while i was there but as soon as we weren't there she was into it..... The old girl i have adopted pigs out on it as well she whinges while the other dog is toileting as soon as they move on she is into it so disgusting if i yell out no she just gulps it down i have added nutodrops to her tea made no difference. Its totally gross as she has an elizabethan collar on so gets poo around the edges then comes up for a pat eeeeekkkkkkk She is very obsessive compulsive to the point that she has licked her back leg almost to the bone she had it when she arrived so i have had a bucket on her head for two weeks and couldn't work out why it wasn't getting better till yesterday my hubby noticed she was a controtionist and has managed to lick it with the elizabethan collar on..... so last night went to the vets on way home from work and got a bigger one nope she can still do it saw her this morning just don't know what to do next. Going to pet barn at lunchtime today to see if i can buy some bandage and some anti licking taste spray stuff. What a nightmare i really wanted it to heal up without a bandage so it can dry out nope that aint happening. She has a new lease on life from this frail lame 11 year old girls to one who is now very demanading and full of beans amazing what a good constant supply of food can mean.

  19. We had our 2 year old bitch desexed today. I was hoping to breed from her however the list of health issues is to long to list. Turns out its been a good decision she has polycystic ovaries. I'm hoping this will be the ned of a few underlying complaints. I had never heard of it before she is only my second bitch but my other bitch was desexed at 6 months so nevr even had a season. Looking online the symptoms were her to a Tee. Just hoping this solves some of her issues now
  20. None of mine have it neither does Nelson her brother wonder if she got it in transport?? Years ago we were at a trial along way from home that afternoon my boy started coughing my 4 dogs were all in the trailer together they had shared water bowls and also shared with my friends 5 dogs all tethered and crates alongside each other none of the other dogs got it besides him all vaccinated against it so no idea why he got it that was 6 years ago haven't had any issues since
  21. I don't breed but i do show so how disadvantaged am i. i don't even get the chance to "advertise" WRONG WRONG WRONG by all standards grrrr i'm infuriated......
  22. OMG this sounds exactly like my dog had rimadyl on the Wednesday morning by Thursday lunch couldn't stand up we had thought it was due to his spondlitis pinching his spinal cord which was what the rimadyl was for. Too late for us to autopsy him i just assumed his spondylitis has damaged his spinal cord hence not being able to walk. Now i'm doubting that but too late for testing as we sadly had him euthanised.
  23. We rotate between chicken mince its a pet one that is basically grinded bones and meat and the mince one is that same she also gets a chicken frame every 2nd night and the alternate night a lamb bone of some discription left overs from the abbatoir from our lambs. So i'll try the powder see if it makes nany difference Thanks
  24. Hi I have just adopted an old girl dalmatian shes had a large number of puppies going by her saggy under carriage and is quite old she will stay here to live her last days/months and hopefully years.... I was wondering why her poo was so dark compared to my other dogs then this morning i have discovered she eats dirt and also charcoal from our outdoor open BBQ thats not used often. Is this a problem. She eats a combination of Eukanuba, mince and vegies and rice. I'm wondering if shes lacking something in her diet or its just something she has always done Thanks
  25. Hi I have just adopted an old girl and she is a chronic poo eater she eats hers and my other dogs was talking to someone the other day who said give her pineapple or even just pineapple juice apparently that helped her dog. I haven't been shopping yet to get any so can't tell you if it works or not but might be worth a try?
