  1. staffordshire bull terrier (own and will always own) rottweiler (own) french bulldog British bulldog GSP Hungarian Vizsla Boston terrier dobermann Samoyed JRT and if OH had his way there'd be a golden retriever on their aswell .
  2. BSL affects everybody . What a ridiculous , ignorant thing to say, yes it may all be starting with an unregistered breed but has started to include registered breeds ( like the AST) . I have voted no. i don't think they are doomed because i believe that there is enough support even from those who don't have a BSL targeted breeds to fight against BSL . Long live the APBT
  3. i think it's more of a shock for humans then the dogs . I get the same attitude from people that our 9 yr old should of been PTS after being diagnosed with SARDS . She went 100% blind overnight . she is a very happy dog and she has adjusted very well to the blindness. She still runs around flat out playing with her toys and our other 2 dogs and is always wagging her tail wanting to play. You wouldn't even know she was blind unless i told you . If she was in pain and not coping and miserable then it would be a different story .
  4. Our oldest Stafford (9) developed SARDS (sudden acquired retinal de-generation syndrome ) which is 100% blindness which as the name suggests happens suddenly with no prior warning . For Bebe it was literally overnight the first few days were her worst cause she had to suddenly deal with being blind but SARDS also brings on all other kind of issues like peeing more and excessive drinking and the attempting to eat more even if it's not edible !! :D . she has adapted really well now, she knows where things are and where to avoid certain things . She was a real character before she went blind and the condition hasn't changed her one little bit , she still plays with the other 2 dogs tug and all , hunts down toys when the others run off with them , runs around excitedly on the lawn waiting for the other dogs to chase her and still loves you to throw the toys so she can go fetch them (which is her fav at the moment ). When we go for walks she still heels at my side and walks like a perfect little lady . To look at her you wouldn't even know her condition . Shes still the same dog we had before SARDS hit , just a little bit funnier now ;) . we love her to bits !!!!
  5. Thanks will try to get him more responsive to his drops (maybe as a game ) , i was told a method that held some concerns for me and i felt would cause some hesitation with the drop and the speed of recall later on down the track . so i thought what better place to ask for advice !!!! Thanks will give this a try .
  6. Does anybody have any successful techniques for training Drop on recall . I havn't started teaching this and is our only open exercise that we havn't started training . Whats the best way to start teaching this ?
  7. I get pretty nervous when I'm in the ring . You'll be amazed at how red my face goes from just being nervous. The more i trial the less nervous i have become and i think the reason for that is having confidence in Diesel Knowing that no matter how nervous or not nervous i am he will still do what i ask from him and when it does go pear shaped at least i get a good laugh from it . Don't put too much pressure on yourself have fun with it ! Maybe we could arrange a little cheer leading squad for you :D
  8. Bribery is my best friend toys, treats anything goes !!!!
  9. Wow that's awesome that they are encouraging More obedience dogs . I was looking on their website the other night to see what activities they were mainly involved with but just looked like showing . Do they do any other types of activities lure coursing etc ??? OH and I are moving to WA soon so might see you out there Tiggy !!!! The club is pretty much just for the showies and breeders at the moment but they're trying to get more people involved that do obedience, agility etc. Alison Leggo from the committee has been so supportive of me and has offered to take photos when we trial as long as it doesn't make me too nervous . Looking forward to meeting you when you move to WA . The SBTCSA are 4 to 5 hrs from where i live here so it will be nice to be able to join (all those Stafford grins hehehehe!).They too are more into breeders and showies but they do lure coursing which looks like a lot of fun for the dogs . When your in the ring you wont even notice anyone or anything outside of the ring , you'll be fine and then when you get out of the ring you will have some lovely photos to look forward too
  10. Well our goals this year would be to 1. JD title 2. To not fall over or crash into things whilst attempting to get JD title :D :D 3 getting ready this year to trial in open next year (I like to take my time ) 4. And to have fun with my little pickle (diesel )whilst doing it all.

  12. I have a training Brag . I decided at training today to bring out the dumbell and do a bit of work with him holding and presenting on lead . I still want to make the dumbell fun for him so i chucked it out for him to retrieve off lead first (just to get him interested ) and what does my angel little boy do ??? ............ He brang it straight back to me sat and presented beautifully no mouthing and he picked it up correctly ! Yay I have a dumbell retrieval finally (not just once did he do it but 3 times after that ) so very proud !
  13. Right ..... got it .... never knew that there was a correct way to do turns !!!! Ptolomy your explanation made total sense - Good Job !!! (easier to do than to write ) The diagram is fantastic Terranik !
  14. Yeah I'm interested in knowing what a T turn is aswell ? can anyone explain more ???.....................
  15. Just watched the current affair story. They said that Tangos owners were stating he is a staffordshire bull terrier . You would at least think they would get the breed right considering the whole story is about what breed Tango is ??????? No wonder our beloved friends get a bad wrap in the media when the media are soo stoopid !!!!
  16. Tybrax do we have any confirmed ruling on this yet ? as a couple of the newspapers are stating the battle has been lost but i thought we would have definite confirmation on this in here . I did notice on another post that you would post results when public notice had been given . I am seriously scared if the rumors are true , my blood is boiling . can they still move interstate with the dog ?? can we do anything more at all to help .... because obviously if they rule in the councils favor theres gonna be a change to the councils legislation and a huge uproar is there anything us dolers can do to throw a spanner in the works ?
  17. Yep you can for both the above and I often trial River in a coat in cold wet weather. If you only want it on for either the ring work or stays and not both you need to ask the judge's permission to put it on/take it off before you go back in the ring though. Thanks i really didn't know you could put one on for the ring . that's great news . Just so i have this right can i choose (with judges permission) to leave it on for the entire time ring work and stays ???
  18. Yeah i didn't really wanna be in the rain either and i seriously feel sorry for him (poor little manny). Can you put a coat on in the ring ? can you get any coats that cover the belly?
  19. Seriously if it's not one thing it's another . So you may of already read in the brags thread that today diesel and i attempted to compete (lol) in the SA state obedience championships in novice . Now it was raining continuously and for the first time ever King Diesel made it known to me that apparently he doesn't like wet grass . Our heel work was a master of disaster all down to the wet grass. missed all positions sits and drops (stands were amazing funnily enough !)and he just wasn't paying any attention as did not want to be out in the rain any longer ! Now diesel is a staffordshire bull terrier so short coated . Has any one else had a similar issue and if so what did you do to try to fix it . Diesel is a very willing worker and does anything to please so this was really unexpected , and it was definately the grass cause as soon as i got home i did some quick work on our pavers and he was fine, went onto the wet grass wouldn't work at all ... Any ideas or suggestions ???
  20. well done everybody what great results i wish my time at the state obedience championship today was as successful ! Diesel decided that the 4 hr drive to Adelaide, the pouring rain and the wet grass was way too much to handle (i think his brain was waterlogged or fell out lol !) . However our SFE was perfect til he decided to shake cause of the rain the rest we didn't complete as he was way too overwhelmed to continue and i ended up pulling us out . Just wasn't meant to be . Well done to everyone who competed today the weather was quite testing
  21. on a lighter note you could always take the knives that there throwing over the fence and "accidentally " cut strips in the trampoline . No but seriously try the police it may be just a scary enough experience for them to stop. You really dont want to be conflicting with your neighbours .
  22. Poor little girl . What the hell was going on in this household !
  23. Absolutely we are all doomed no matter what we do !
