    Sascha

It is with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes that I know Sascha will not be coming home again...... My beautiful British shorthair Sascha, was originally one of 23 cats that were handed into a rescue down south early last year. Sascha was our first foster failure, a very shy little black girl who was just starting to discover headbutts while cuddling. A very cat social cat, I was looking forward to her becoming good friends with all our rescues. Unfortunately Sascha escaped our cat run last Saturday. After putting up notices on Monday night a lovely gentleman phoned to say he thought he may have found her. We picked Sascha up one last time and next week her ashes will return to us. I will be forever grateful to the gentleman who phoned us, as the not knowing was killing me I feel like I have let her down......my beautiful girl didnt have a great start to life, found it hard to trust humans and is now gone too soon Forever in my heart and dreams

  16. My friend wants this breed as she had one a few years ago and is missing having one of that breed. Her SWF came to stay with us for the first few swings she did up on site but as her dog sleeps on the bed and we dont have dogs on our bed at night, she had to sleep in the laundry and she didnt react well to that. Having said that she has spent the last couple of months at the boarding kennels and the kennel owners love her and look after her really well, but I do think she is put in a run/kennel at night for sleeping. Its not possible for her to leave SWF at home, her partner works FIFO also and is currently on the same shifts, when they were on different shifts the SWF would be at home with one of them. Although my friend is a good owner, she is not much on training and she does "humanise" them with emotions, I would be struggling to approve her if she applied for one of our rescues. The SWF is spoilt and is used to being an only dog, she is now 4 years old and although she is pretty social, once she has had enough she lets everyone know and I am not sure how she would go with a permanent friend I know the breeder she is talking too and I know that if I contact the breeder to tell her, my friend would know who did that and it would affect our relationship, but I do agree with Megan who said she would be very upset if she found out the breeder had mislead her like my friend is doing now
  17. There is another article in the paper today http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/news/general/council-accused-over-dog-attack/2560531.aspx?storypage=0 Council accused over dog attack DAMON CRONSHAW 18 May, 2012 04:00 AM THE state government has been urged to investigate why authorities failed to declare dogs as dangerous on a Lake Macquarie property, before a savage dog attack occurred. The Newcastle Herald reported yesterday that two American Staffordshire terriers that lived on the Mirrabooka site jumped two two-metre fences into a neighbouring property and attacked Natalie Southam, aged 19. The attack, last Friday, left Ms Southam with wounds to her ear, back of the neck and arms that required 19 stitches. The dogs were destroyed after the attack. Lake Macquarie City Council said it did not have "sufficient evidence to warrant the issue of a dangerous dog declaration" before the attack. To read the Herald's opinion, click here. But the council was accused yesterday of ignoring dozens of complaints about dogs acting in a dangerous and vicious manner at the property. Society of Companion Animal Rescuers vice-president David Atwell said the council "should be investigated for its part in this sorry affair". Local Government Minister Don Page's office did not respond to questions about whether he would conduct an investigation, whether dangerous dog laws should be toughened and whether American Staffordshire terriers should be a restricted breed. Mr Page's spokeswoman said: "Council has advised that it is responding to this matter." Council waste environment and rangers manager Keith Stevenson said in a statement there had been 11 requests to the council about dogs at the property from March 2009 to November 2011. "Some were anonymous and some from third parties," Mr Stevenson said. "Each matter was appropriately investigated, or responded to, by an inspection of the premises and interview with the owner by a ranger." Mr Stevenson said the council had a "sound record in pursuing action against owners who are found to have dangerous dogs, including orders and court actions". Stephen Smith, of Mirrabooka, said he and his partner Meike Jackson contacted the council many times. "I would speak to the council, they would tell me to speak to the RSPCA and they would tell me to speak to the council or police," Mr Smith said. The couple's complaints were about "dogs screaming and trying to kill each other, constant fighting, howling and barking". Residents said one dog was killed on the property by another dog and "puppies were ripped to pieces" several times. The Herald left messages for the owner, but was unable to speak to them. The owner was yesterday advertising American Staffordshire terrier puppies on the website dogzonline.com.au. ‘‘We are a small kennel dedicated to breeding quality dogs,’’ it said. Mr Stevenson said in a statement that rangers had previously inspected the premises and ‘‘did not believe the owner was operating a dog-breeding business, given there was a relatively small number of dogs (five to six) found’’. But Ms Jackson said up to 40 dogs were kept on the property at times. ‘‘I told that to council rangers,’’ she said.
  18. At the moment she is doing one week onsite and one week at home - but she is looking at moving sites so not sure what she will be doing in the future I too, would like her to be honest with the breeder but if I tell her it might put the pup in jeopardy she probably wont disclose her work situation
  19. I have a friend who is looking for another dog, she is currently a FIFO worker at the mines. The SWF she has at the moment is spending her time at kennels while my friend is working and she does have a long term arrangement with the kennels to look after her dog. My friend is talking to a breeder about a pup and hasnt told her that she is a FIFO worker - would it make a difference if she did? I dont like her lying to the breeder and I know if it was me - I wouldnt be happy about it if I found out but I am curious to see if I hold the same opinion as other in regards to this FIFO - fly in, fly out workers
  20. Happy birthday Holly, wish you were here babygirl, miss you so much xx
