Plastic, Ceramic Or Metal Bowls
Esky the husky replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've got plastic for food, food doesn't stay in the bowl long enough anyway, it's raw so she just drags it out and chews it. With solid chunks of meat I won't even bother with a bowl half the time. Water goes in a metal bowl, outside it's in a bucket. I've always got 2 plastic bowls in the car too, for camping and racing. Don't give a damn if the get left behind, broken or run over since they're cheap. -
Lucky you cared enough to make them safe

Yeah, they just mean, something to restrain your dog with until they are ready to run. Collars are obviously easier, when trying on harnesses though. :) Oh and I suggest a crate or a tether and stake as well ( essential if you want to camp) Because at some point you'll want both hands free :p -

Just some sage words, GPS and google maps don't take into account locked forest gates. You can only get to the race site via razorback rd Best way to get there from the city is to go straight up the south eastern freeway. Take the Hahndorf/Birdwood/Woodside Exit At the round about go straight (Mount Barker Rd) This will bring you through Hahndorf. Keep going through Hahndorf, in the heart of town you turn right onto pine rd. You will see signs pointing you to Echunga Follow this road to it's end. At the T intersection turn left then take the first right. This is Batunga rd Follow this about 6 km and you'll turn right onto razorback rd. The race site is a few km down there on the left. I'm pretty sure the club will have our signs out too :D -

Reverend Jo, people would love photos I'm sure. It's like getting off a roller coaster the photos are always awesome and hilarious. And novices will appreciate their first time being captured. Chequeredblackdog, a kelpie who loves to run would do great. I know overseas kelpies aren't very well known, but there are folks who run an all ACD team, and others that favour border collies. Apparently the only problem borders have is they get so invested they literally run until they drop. -

There are plenty of races up your way Nevafollo Our nationals are being held in the Hunter Valley this year. Worth going along for a look (or a run) :D -
Anyone out there in SA with a medium to large breed that loves to run, is encouraged to come down to the sledding intro day, this Sunday in Kuitpo forest. It doesn't have to be a husky, we have many other breeds that compete in this state including, labradors, samoyeds, german shorthaired pointers, ridgebacks, malamutes, belgian shepherds and german shepherds and I'm sure I'm missing some. All you'll need to bring is your dog on lead, water, a helmet and poo bags. There will be a brief talk on how sledding works, and plenty of people around to borrow harnesses and scooters from to have a go. Plus you'll all get to meet Esky the husky

Which Breed Best Suits Your Image?

I'm average looking, short, green eyed, ashy/ mousey coloured hair. Stubborn, shy, independant, awkward. I'm not sure, I guess a husky might fit that. I wonder what OH's breed would be. He's tall, blue eyes, really long curly red hair. -
First thing I said when OH showed me the video was, there's no way that pup is 8 weeks old. A lot younger indeed.

I love it

Hopefully you can take some of this advice on board. I do know dogs that do well on supercoat. My sis in law has two hypo boxer type dogs. One of them holds condition well, the other eats like a horse and still looks lean. The amount of food they go through though is frightening. I gave a premium food a go for a while. Had about 20kgs, and it lasted me about 6-7 months. So in theory, if I fed that for a whole year I would have spent $230 odd on food. Not bad for a decent feed. And this is a medium dog who does a lot of hard work. The SIL in question will go through 1 bag of supercoat a month- minimum! The bigger bags of that are around $40-$50. You do the math. :) Have you looked up 'satin balls' recipe? -
I would be a bit concerned when the lion started barking

I want to know what I'm buying. I want a puppy because it's a fresh slate. OH won't let me take on any rescues either, because we don't want the problems that can come with them. I do support rescues in other ways, but I don't think I could ever see us owning one.

Some of the Aussie Dog toys (google it) might be a good choice :) There is one that you suspend, from a fixture up high, and they can pull to their hearts content -
I agree with Kirislin. Hell I almost crashed into Esky yesterday when she stopped dead in front of the racing scooter for a poo. I lost the scooter behind me, and thankfully didn't manage any injuries to myself. What a nutso little dog, so cute
