Some days my husky is a perfect angel listening to all my requests. There are other days, where she's tired, bored or just being a husky that she doesn't. Her Mal could have been having the same issue that day.

Actually a few people I know have Lappies and Huskies, so they might be worth a look into. Again there is a wide variety of personality in the breed, some real cuddly sooks and some very full on ones too  A good breeder would be able to pick a suitable dog to fir into your household :)

No dramas here, she really thrives on raw food.

Please please please do not buy from just anyone. Some good breeders do use the trading post ( and gumtree maybe... ) You're better off taking your time and making sure you not only have the right breed but also the right personality of dog to complement your current one. Some huskies, like my own play very very roughly. A lot of other breeds don't appreciate this. Off the top of my head Esky gets along best with German Shepherds, Other spitzes usually mals, huskies, samoyeds, lappies and some other high energy breeds like boxers and german shorthaired pointers. I'd dare say adding any of these breeds to my own pack would triple the work I'd have to do. I would not have a small dog to keep Esky company as they could very easily get hurt by mistake.

And then some people don't do any of the hard work. BYB their dog and make a whole lot of profit

Don't mean for this to come across as rude, but why do you have 2 different insurance companies to cover your dogs Ruby Star?

There is a breed I am seriously dreaming of importing, would I be able to have a copy as well. Pretty please! :D I'll pay for postage etc :)

I sometimes say horrible things to Esky, because she has no idea. I really really hope she has no idea what I'm on about

If they aren't having a go at the dogs on their team, I'd not consider it an issue. A strong pack dog doesn't necessarily welcome strangers to the pack. Fair enough, but I have also seen some dogs have a go at their own team members. There was a nasty blow out between two GSPs at a race last year.
-
I would love to see huskies/ mals etc tested for team working as well. Nothing worse than the ones that snap or lunge as you scoot on overtaking them. (Thankfully not too many) They're supposed to work as a team so they shouldn't be having a go at other dogs IMO

How Old Have Your Last Dogs Lived?

Towser Terrier mix 10 years old. Snake bite Didge Siberian Husky passed away 9 months old Road accident -
Well there are a lot of breeds I like to look at / read about. But they don't suit what I do. I'm having the opposite problem, I have quite specific requirements and the 2 breeds that really meet my specifications I'm not allowed to have I've got the breeds for my second dog narrowed down, but I'm only really sold on one.

Endurance Test 2012

 Are you allowed to do the ET in another state? -
Esky's were well and truly up by ten weeks They are a bit strange though, the tips are still soft and bounce around when she runs. Sometimes the flop down a bit and look like rough collie/ sheltie ears

I think Black Hawk is around $80 for 20 kilos. I know a few breeders who use Bonnie working dog- which is well within your price range- and their dogs look really good.
-
Just an anacdote- Esky (spitz breed) + father in law's chicken run = multiple chicken deaths. Not that a husky would be suited to the OP anyway. Sandy when you find a breed you like, do some research about the health conditions that the breed is prone to. Find out if they are conditions that you can test for, then find an ANKC breeder you are happy with who tests for these conditions :) That's your best shot at avoiding health issues, after that genetics will do what it will, and you play a big part in keeping the dog healthy too :) By feeding appropriate foods and giving him excercise.

What Is Important For You When Boarding Your Dogs?
Esky the husky replied to OSoSwift's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ideally I would want double fencing everywhere. I had a bad experience with the kennel master not putting our dog on leash when he was returning her to us. Open gate + husky+ major freeway = heart attack! Esky is pretty full on in playing with other dogs, so single playtime for her. The one thing I would love would be structured exercise ie treadmill, particularly if it is during our peak sporting season. Free running wouldn't be enough :) -

Thanks Zug Zug. I'm always concerned about fencing, as huskies sometimes decide to really give you the finger :p -
