"obnoxious Toad" Stage Of Development?
MonElite replied to Griffo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Taken from K9s website http://www.k9force.net/index.html?row2col2=develop.html If you say that she does something first time when she sees the food and doesnt when there is no food I think she doesnt see your reward of petting/good word/whatever you do as a high enough to perform the excercise. Perhaps you can rethink your rewards and corrections, or both. -
What Fish Do You Feed Your Dogs And How Often?
MonElite replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dogs get raw fish about once a week. Mackrel, pitchards, ribbon fish, yellowtail, whatever is the cheepest in the shop. they also get all sorts of other fish when my OH catches them. They like it frozen, and they get it whole with guts, scales, head and fins. Occasionally I buy canned fish and they are usually mackrel either in brine or in oil, on occasion in tomatoe souce. They also get fish oil capsules daily. -
Fair enough - I hope you will find your answers , You have been given couple of hints as to where to look for them.

Sorry your last post went over my head a bit. Where did you read that you are not to mention this subject here ever again? The subject of ecollars has been on DOL several times, discussed widely. I cant exactly recall when and where but I think that there was a mention somewhere about their legality in each state. And where at times someone might do the searching for you and put a link, you are welcome to do it yourself. If all fails you can contact a distributor of ecollars (such as Innotek) and ask them directly about the laws governing the collars. As to what DOL - its a internet forum - however that is defined in the dictionary. You are oblidged to accept and follow the rules when you sign up. So is everyone else.

It can last for 3-4 weeks. Most vets recomend you have them spayed BEFORE the first season.

How Many Repetitions To Teach A Required Behaviour?
MonElite replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think that if the dog has learned several words it is easier for it to learn the new ones. Basically the dog knwos the drill so to speak. You et shown what to do than you get rewarded. Thats why I think you can teach the old dog new tricks -
Ask K9. He is the expert.

How Many Repetitions To Teach A Required Behaviour?
MonElite replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I had done about 7 reps at the time. That is me and the dog. Gave the dog back to the owner and did some focus building as the dog was not looking at the owners face. later during class I had asked the class to to the learned excercise the dog definitelly knew the word. Extremly smart dog, the owner needs a lot of work tho -

I dont know what answer you are looking for, looking forward to finding out what it is. I mean if the dog liked the dried food and you were not into BARF than there would be no problem. -

Are you talking as the trainer is a good trainer, the circumstance is right, the motivator is right, the dog with no problems etc? From my observation a dobermann can pick up the meaning of the word in about 5 repetitions. -

If the dog was already trained it would alse be weaned off the food treats. If the dog was not trained Id change the motivator. BTW this will never happen, there always is cheese -
Vetting is a term used very loosly You need to present the vac cert on joining. Each week before the class starts a person (not a vet) goes over the dog, ears, teeth general apperance etc.

Id say that every club would welcome a spectator. I know "my" club does. We often have people sitting and watching us train. Re vaccinations and age of pupps accepted - check with a specific club you are interested in. Clubs as per DogsNSw website http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/regions-metro-training-clubs (club at Peahurst isnt listed as we are not affiated with Dogs NSW)
