Prey Drive Control & Focus..
MonElite replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
OK so I have a new "problem". My OH brought this pen with a laser light and the red dot its producing is an absolutly the best prey "item" my girl had ever seen :D She goes mental for it and obviously cant catch it if it moves. Hence there is no reward except the chase of it. And she is determined to catch it :D Oh and she worked out it comes from the pen and looks at the pen as well. Now is there any way I can harness this obsession? If not than not, but this little red dot has been better than any ball, rag, fly, bird, etc. Orbee with a laser? is that my answer? -
In the spirit of the friendlyness of the forum and a genuine desire to help with L&P's research here are some sites for you Innotek USA the manufacturer Innotek Australia the distributor Dogtra another manufacturer Tri-Tronics yet another manufacturer DT Systems blah blah SportDog etc etc enough people for you to contact? Im sure these people will be able to answer all you questions on how the thing works. Surly someone had done research on the gear before they have produced it and released it on the world wide market... Oh and here is some other people saying stuff about ecollars http://www.safepets.com/debunkingmyths.html http://www.ezdogpark.com/remotecollartrain.htm http://www.finographics.com/schutzhund/obe...motecollar.html http://www.leerburg.com/318.htm

Hey L&P would it be possible for you to tell us why on earth would anyone want to do the research YOU desire and post it on here just so you can read it? Go and do your own research. and if you are not convinced about anything stay away from getting an ecollar for your dog, noone is forcing one down your throath.

Aus The thing is that he isnt in prey drive there he is in food drive. Prey is a desire to chase and catch, the food isnt moving so he isnt in prey drive. Aus That is great. Aus The question I have (Im not having a go, jsut want to clarify) was it a recall from a sit stay you walk away than call or wasit from Ill chase a cat and when I almost catch it Mum calls and I leave the cat and return? Aus We all do, its probably the most important, especailly for a pet owner. Aus We all did, still do, check out the recall subject in the general secion or the ecollar subject. Everyone here is here to learn (well maybe except K9) and if someone knows a bit more than average there is no doubt that there will be discussions about it. Majority of people here, not only from Sydney have been to K9s workshops, had lessons and after a while speak the same language, it doesnt mean their dogs a perfectly trained, its jsut that they understand the concept and exchange info using the same words. Im happy to hear your experiences and compare them to mine, so keep them coming. If we dotn like what you say we will just crucify you thats all EDiting for the 5th time as the bloody quotes dont work! -
tiramissa - Im not saying your dog has a prob with you. its a general statement My GFs girl thinks of her highly as well but she wasnt comortable weeing in a place other than her own yard, hence I assume she had a prob with the souroundings.
-
I think that the dog taht wont go to the toilet near a person has "an issue" with the person or the souroundings. It puts them in the voulnerable position and they they arent trusting enough to go. Some will do it heaps more than others, my GFs girl wouldnt go in front of other people, more outside her own yard, so if we went to a show for several hours she just wouldnt go to the toilet. One time she did it.... in the car as soon as she got in.... poor baby.
-
why wont she go to the toilet in front of you?
-
What are you feeding her? Im puzzled why does she need to go to poo at night? what kind of a poo is it? (lets go straight into everyones fav topic LOL) As a TOT kinda thing, why dont you get her near you when you prepare the food and get her to sit and watch you do it, while your leg isnt OK?
-
TOT is out of the way and too much? You are still feeding the dog, make it sit and wait for the food, make it sit and drop, make it sit, drop sit etc. Yu dont need to move the dog does all of it. How old is Kaos? What time are you feeding and tileting last before bed, Im surprised she cant hold all night and needs to be let out on regular basis. My 5mo pupp goes out at 11 pm for last toilet and not a booo till 7-7.30am

I just wanted to point something out to everyone SB writes after I have put this sentece Now how on earth would anyone straight away assume Im a physio??? It so just happends that I am qualified as a physio but I also have a feeling that this person has been having this discussion with us a while ago under a different login. A thread about NZ Police springs to my mind.

Perhaps you shoudl read a bit more carefull I didnt say I tried the citronella anti barking collar. So you know it was an electronic antibarking collar, the one that issues the "electric shock" when activated by the sound. Did I? Show me where pls. Yes I have, I have used equipement delivering curent to stimulate nerves that in effect contract muscles. It doesnt hurt, well unless you put the stim on a level way to high. As Jeff mentioned an ecollar, as any tool if used inapropiatelly can be harmfull.. Just so you know - tens machnes are there to stimulate the muscles it is the ultrasounds that work agains the pain by "killing" the nerve endings. I guess I will be leaving the physio debate, cold or hot, as its totally off topic. and all you are trying to do is to
-
as to my dogs reaction. Well the male wags the tail when I get the collar out so I guess he is happy. Never cringes when stimmed. Hangs around me with the collar on his neck. I have burned a citronella candle on my verandah a while ago as there were plenty of mosquitoes, dogs where nowhere to be found. We tried draging them out to stay with us, they were NOT HAPPY.. Personal observations only of course. I think Id personally rather have a TENS machine applied to me (the one physio use) rather than have someone spraying stinking deodorant in my face.

Im safe than a person I know is on the list of of APDT I also note that one of the DOLers form NSW that I know is on the list as well.... All up I have found 4 names of people I personally know on those sites. Just something very interesting I cant see Steve Austin nor Garry Sommerville there - two very famous people in the dog training world. And where is the list of qualified trainers on the VCA site? or am I blind?
-
and this your puppy gets frustrated watching you "play" inside and being unable to participate, dogs are pack animals they like to be in the company of the pack memmbers which you are for the puppy. that is why the puppy cries. Bring him inside play all you like than put him outside for the night anc draw the curtains. You can have a crate inside the house and he can be there int he crate but with you at the same time. Both of my dogs are crate trained and I can lock them up any time for extended periods of time if need be, they also choose someitmes to get in the crate just to rest, although they preffer the sofa a lot more

K9 How many of each breed? or % of each breed in the test? -
Aus - an el cheapo citronella collar that is legal and can be rented from the council is NOTHING like a remote training ecollar that the OP is talking about. Hence INHO the comparison you are making has no base. You are comparying a broken down VW Beatle to a jumbo jet. Yes they are both used to transport people, but not in the same way. or its like eating scraps from McDonalds as oppose to having caviar served on a silver platter

and how are you doing this? Considering you have not trained with K9........ I dont know what your exact methods are and I can only judge them on what you put in here, but I have somewhat of an idea on K9s training methods in practice and I see differences already. Weather they are very small or very big its just a matter of a personal opinion. I havent seen K9 do that ever, and I have only seen him train dogs like about 50-100 hours. He makes a fool of himself in other ways :D (dont you K9?) but not by holding down and growling and biting the dogs. what does it do? :D ask westielover if she could do that to her resent rescue, and what effect would it have on Spencer........ I dont really think it would be an ideal mothod for my girl either. Im happy that whatever you do works for you, if it does that is GREAT noone says there is one way to train the dog, its just a matter of finding out what method works for which dog.
