Pros And Cons Of More Than One Dog
GoldenGirl85 replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was a single dog owner until the beginning of the year, when I lived at home my parents had 2 Cavs and I found looking after the three dogs a bit too much, because of this I only ever saw myself having the one dog. Late last year I moved interstate, and a month later Tess came to live with me, she was lonely living in a different yard and all by herself, so I started thinking about getting a second dog, I havnt looked back, they love each other to bits and my puppy is definitely 'my' dog (Tess was my dog but raised in a family situation so she was never sure who owned her) I would never recommend to someone to get a second dog just to keep the first company, I had the time to devote to both Lexi and Tess, which influenced my decision, but if you dont have time to train and love both dogs I wouldnt get the second dog -
Tennis Balls Ruining Dogs Teeth?
GoldenGirl85 replied to Dame Aussie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have some Chuckit (brand) rubber tennis sized balls that have stood up to years of abuse from my Labrador - and this is a dog that destroys the black Kongs! They are around $20 for a pair of them, but it still ends up much cheaper in the long run than buying balls that the dogs can destroy. The Chuckit balls are orange with a blue tennis ball looking stripe on them. They should be perfect for both of your furkids... T. Oooh Ill have to look into those Anyone ever used the Orbee balls? -
How old is he? My Goldie has only just 'grown out' of submissive urination at 7 months, if there was even a loud noise she would crouch and wet herself, one day I bashed my knee on my bed and groaned...that was enough to do it, but not anymore, it might just take time, in the mean time avoid raising your voice around him, if he does wet himself just clean it up quietly and move on with it As for the escaping obviously the first thought is 'fix the fence', you need to remove his means to escape. When he does get out where does he go? maybe he has found a nice comfy place to go where he feels secure, he obviously doesnt go far away if he returns within a few minutes of you calling

Teaching A Dog To Play?
GoldenGirl85 replied to alexandrite's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Have you tried using a ball attached to a rope to teach him fetch? try getting one of those totem tennis balls and put a longer rope on the string, that way when he picks it up you can 'reel' him in, might give him the idea to bring it back -
Tennis Balls Ruining Dogs Teeth?

Ok DOlers tempt me Can someone reccomend a ball for a household with a JRT and a Goldie (i.e small and large dogs) the JRT is a very strong chewer and doesnt like squeakies, her mission with a toy is to destroy it which is why I buy tennis balls, but if I can find a ball that she will like to chew, I dont mind paying more for it -
Dogs like bones more than kibble
-
No, an average size female greyhound could easily be called medium sized dog. They will fit in a handbag. OH MY GOD I could TOTALLY see Paris Hilton with one! lmao
-
Hey great! Id be about half way there!
-
I don't think a cav would cope well possibly being left alone full time My parents want cavvies next and that seems to be what I am being told... Yeah you are right I guess, but if he (or your parents) were interested in getting a pair Id seriously consider a Cav, my parents have a pair and work full time and they are happy to have each other through the day, and a lap each at night, regular brushing is all thats needed and they dont shed near as much as my JRT did, and there was 2 of them!

And today I see they still have a discount going. Mehhh..... I'm going to order somewhere else next time. ps..Did you try their on-line chat option to ask? It's cool. They wernt online Good to know, hopefully Ill get a reply soon I needed the stuff anyway lol, 5% isnt that much, put it will be nice to get the discount still
-
Hmmm, well at least it was working, I hope they sort it out, I bought my stuff with 4 hours to spare! there was no time for it to end so you would presume midnight
-
What about a Cavalier?
-
There was no coupon code box, only the gift certificate box Order went through, no discount...off to email them, hope I get my discount
-
It got to the confirmation page with no place to enter the details...if it all goes through should I email them and let them know?
-
I know this is really stupid and Im probably having a blonde moment but...VNPD have a 5% discount on all purchases until the end of the tonight, but I cant see where to enter the code to get the discount...any insight? lol
-
Yes definitely let him settle in first, maybe even give him 2 weeks before starting training, he has been taken away from everything he knows afterall ETA...nobody has mentioned yet, but its a silent rule to post pics of new pups on here
-
Did the breeder mention if he had diarrhoea when you got him? Id be asking if it was something affecting him before he came home or not
-
It does get better! You obviously seem very devoted to the puppy so thats the best start, you want to do the best for him and that shows Id seriously consider crate training him, there are a lot of threads on here if you do a quick search if you arent sure how to go about that, it can really help with toilet training as well. The smell of urine isnt much fun, but if its over powering there is a chance he might have a UTI, you have a toddler so Im sure you know what healthy urine should smell like, you will know if its unhealthy. If you do think there might be an issue there take him to the vet and get that checked out, it will help if you can take a sample along for testing but make sure that ANYTHING used to collect the sample is sterilised before the collection or it will be contaminated As for the diarrhoea start him on a boiled chicken and rice diet for a few days until it clears up, in the meantime find out what his breeder was feeding him and start him on that, you can still change him to the food of your choice but change him over gradually until he is totally on the new food

Tennis Balls Ruining Dogs Teeth?
GoldenGirl85 replied to Dame Aussie's topic in General Dog Discussion
My JRT has been chewing tennis balls for 8.5 years and she has had no harm caused by them -
Mate settle, when I started typing my reply only a few people had posted! Have you got pics of your pup?
-
does it really matter? I am sure people get what the dog is by the so called stupid name so where is the problem? Yes it does The problem is that this forum does not promote cross breeding, like it or not, your pup is a cross bred (but Im sure a very cute one). Now because this forum doesnt promote cross breeding we arent allowed to refer to designer breeds by their silly made up names, your pup is a Labrador x Poodle, you wont have any problems on this forum if you call him this, if you insist on calling him a Labradoodle you wont make many friends Blunt and to the point I know, but its better being out in the open now, you will get a lot of very good advice from the people on this forum so please dont let comments about your dog being a cross bred drive you away , we are not pure breed snobs dont get me wrong, heaps of people on here own cross breds and love them just as much as their pure bred fur kids As for the smell a few people have suggested clipping the fur around his muzzle to help keep it clean, Id probably do this
