  1. Before moving to VIC I was doing some part-time grooming for a popular and busy shop on the mid north coast of NSW. Lot's and lot's of 'oodles' there. The owners of these dogs can be VERY aggressive if you mention that their pride and joy is a cross bred. One MUST at all times refer to them as the 'oodle' that they are. The breeders of these oodles have the general public convinced that these crosses are superior to purebred dogs for many reasons and the ignoramous's that buy them believe every word of it. I have a JRT bitch and she was at work with me one day and a client came in and wanted to know if I would like to use their male to breed with her. He was a sweet, friendly dog and they loved him and that's all they thought was important. Another staff member was (still is) a registered breeder (different breed) and she looked over their male and told them that he had a undershot jaw and should never be bred from. Well, they were seriously unimpressed with her! They just couldn't understand why the undershot jaw should stop them from breeding with him. Someone (was it Don B?) has made all the ignorant people out there think that when you cross breed dogs that you will get only the best from both breeds. (Apparently all the 'undesirable' traits vanish when 2 breeds are crossed) Unfortunately lot's of people believe this crap. Dont you know? undesirable traits are recessive
  2. A doctor I used to work with was telling me that his "Cavoodle" will soon be a new breed...in a few years Anyone who has ever worked with doctors will know that you can never convince them they are wrong, apparently he still goes on about our conversation weeks after the fact lol
  3. Ive seen a few 'oodle' looking dogs around at agility and Im never sure if they are oodles or poodles so I never ask the owner because I dont want to offend them! I do have to admit Jaeger I wouldnt have picked her as a Poodle, she is a very cute girl though!!
  4. And what if they want a lab temperament and not the lab coat so get a labradoodle but they get the poodle temperament and the lab coat? Just a thought ... You mean a smartarse dog that sheds like nothing on earth? Seriously, though, people have a strange idea of what the Poodle temperament is. Poodles were, after all, originally bred for water retrieving and can still be all-purpose utility dogs. Amongst dogs I have bred are those with Tracking titles, Herding titles & general Obedience titles. Poodles are also VERY people-orientated. I don't think anyone was having a go at a Poodle temperament or how smart they are. I think the push for 'Lab temperament' is because we all know that Labs are the "perfect family pet" add on the "hypoallergenic" factor and you have the perfect family pet for todays allergy free lifestyle More like todays lazy ass don't want to have to clean up after the dog environment lol, got that in one Honestly though Id rather have a dog that needs a weekly brush and a weekly Dyson on the floor instead of a dog that needs daily grooming and clipping how ever often its needed (never owned a coated breed lol)

  6. I might look into those tablets, cant use collars they arent safe in my backyard, my girls only have collars when we are out walking
  7. GoldenGirl, that's all pie in the sky and none of the canine councils will make a personal call or do such things. Worded it wrong, I meant that the breeder might do that not the CC, if they knew what she was planning to do with the pup they bred, but if she isnt registered then I guess its a no go anyway
  8. I can vouch for Paytons stuff, its great!!! Not sure if I can make an order this time Smisch but if I will Ill definitely get it in before the 18th, how do you like the leads you got for your dog?
  9. It could me more "hey mum...the dog walk is over there, what are you doing on the ground?" Nice run Leo you deserved the win after that fall
  10. Is the cocker registered? if so it might be worth contacting the registry or the breeder and letting them know what she is planning, at least they can try and educate her on the difficulties of breeding and the ethical side of breeding for the sake of breeding, if they cant convince her to not breed they might be able to convince her to look for a nice stud to breed her 'nice' bitch to
  11. Is there anything that will treat just ticks? my dogs dont require flea treatment but it seems that every tick treatment also treats fleas, Id rather just treat for fleas with a wash if they happen to get them
  12. Last time my club had a competition I was scribing for the gamblers, for most of the groups nobody made it in time so really all you had to do was take a few jumps and double it a few times and finish and you would win, everyone else was getting high points but were unable to finish on time so they got disqualified
  13. I got them for my pup...and I still have a whole packet sitting there minus 1 lol, I keep forgetting to get a photo and list them for sale on here
  14. I have no idea how snooker works, but we did a gamblers run the other night Basically you have to work out how you can get a lot of points quickly, then keep running over the 'double it' obstacle taking a jump or a tunnel in between, we had the A frame as our double, but keep in mind if your dog takes the obstacle incorrectly your points will be halved instead of doubled, I think you also have to jump the finish as well or you wont qualify for any points, so make sure you stay in time and get time to go back to the finish jump
  15. I was thinking about going, but didnt know about it until the week entries closed and it was going to be too difficult to try and organise accommodation etc, also Id only be doing combined starters or NFC Me and Tess have our first competition on Saturday, she has 2 runs in combined starters, the first only has 2 other entrants and the second only has 1 other, gotta love having a toy dog in the bottom levels lol Wish me luck for clear rounds
  16. Whoops mummy! lol Lexis destructive gene has just kicked in, Tess used to have a people pillow she slept on, it was the perfect size for her crate...one day I came home and that pillow was nothing but fluff lol
  17. I agree that Goldies are "softer" than Labs. Labradors are not known for being delicate However you are way off the mark in thinking that Labs are not "forgiving" or that a Lab puppy will snap back if told off by an older dog . You obviously don't know Labs well at all. You're right, I dont I never had a lot to do with either breed before I got Lexi, Goldens were always my favourite breed, but I didnt even join this forum until after I got Lexi and was poorly educated, I knew Labs to be the boofier of the two, and I didnt know how much that would affect temperament, but other than that I was under the impression that Labs would always end up overweight, I was so used to seeing fat labs, but I didnt often see fat Goldies, I wanted a dog I could do agility with, Goldies seemed like the best option, and lucky for me Ive always wanted to own one. Just want to add its so good to see so many healthy and fit Labs on this forum
  18. I chose a Goldie over a Lab because Ive found that Goldies are much softer and more forgiving than Labs, I already had a very bossy top dog (JRT) so I had to make sure I got a puppy that might not snap back when Tess told the pup off lol, no incidents so far lol
  19. There would be members we have a few Goldie breeders from Vic on here, but maybe post this in general or in the Retriever sub forum and you might get a response
  20. I PMed you about the RAW Im not sure how long Advance has sponsored Guide Dogs for but the guy up here I was chatting to made it seem as though they have been getting it for years...maybe they either have old paperwork, or they are trying to discourage people who think "hey free puppy!"
  21. Advance used to supply Guide Dogs QLD with their food for free, I can only imagine that they do the same for NSW, and if this is the case, and they are also the same company that makes Pal I can see why they are suggesting it AL why dont you ask them about trying the diet the QLD dogs are on now? its a RAW based diet that comes as frozen patties, GD QLD now has all of their dogs in training and all of their breeding stock on it and swear by it, I bought some for Lexi to try and I was happy with it, the only reason why I didnt keep buying it was because I was too lazy to track down the store that sells it
  22. Thanks, yes, we have one of those too! We have the small-sized one. Gets rid of the fur well but I find it a bit weighty for the chi X and not so good on the longer fur of the sheltie X. Works best on our cats. Since I have some experts online. Could you explain the use of those loopy metal things with the teeth and handle. Where do they fit into the whole brushing/grooming process? thanks again for everyone's thoughts Di I think what you have described there is a shedding blade, I think its really only used for very long coated breeds to get rid of the dead hair, but I could be wrong there I have a furminator for my JRT and I love it...she disagrees but it does the job, she doesnt agree with any sort of brush, at least the furminator gets the job done in a few minutes, I do also have a zoom groom (the kong one) and I dont mind it, I just prefer the furminator because its easier to clean out and the hair stays in nice neat bundles
  23. I had my JRTs dew claws removed about a year ago because she was constantly ripping the nail off by getting them caught, she is a terror when it comes to having her nails cut and the dews needed doing more often as they dont wear as much I was going to get my Goldies done when I got her desexed but after consulting dol I decided to leave them as Im planning to do agility with her and they get some use out of them, also most of the Goldie owners said they have never had issues with their dogs dews
  24. Id say a JRT if she wants a smaller dog with drive, otherwise what about a Toller if you want something a bit bigger, there is a Toller at my club and she is pretty good
  25. For the food there is never really a 'best' food, all dogs do well on different diets. Basically the 'best' food is what he does best on himself, both my girls are on different kibble, my JRT gets Nutro because its good for dogs with skin allergies, and she seems less itchy since Ive had her on it, my Goldie is on Royal Canin and she does well on that, to supplement the kibble they also get pet mince with blended veggies in it, or they get sardines once a week Im guessing the puppy preschool must get some sort of sponsorship from Hills if they are pushing the purchase so much, my agility club (they also do PP) is sponsored by Pro Pac, they push selling it but they dont say that its the best out there and all the other brands are crap, they just push it so that people might try it and like it, the more sales the better chance of getting more sponsorship
