  1. Thanks all for your recommendations and support ... I have passed all the details on. Hopefully the distressed Shar Pei owner in QLD will contact them and pursue professional advice. For the sake of the Pei, I will follow her up in a few days time.
  2. Seeking highly qualified and experienced Dog Trainer / Behaviorist, that consults north of the Gold Coast
  3. Gee this is a tough one..... Shar Pei (as I own a few now and help to rescue them) but if I couldn't own a Pei then.... Top larger dog breeds Dogue de bordeaux American Bulldog American Pit Bull Italian Cane Corso Mastiff Neapolitan Mastiff Bull Mastiff Top smaller dog breeds Chinese Crested Italian Greyhound French Bulldog Boston Terrier
  4. Who are the professionals? Registered breeders who in the main don't know diddly about breeding dogs when they start out or people who breed thousands each year without a care for the dogs? and the every day backyard breeder does?????? I hardly think so.......You can argue the point until you are blue in the face but the shelter, euthanasia and unwanted numbers speak for themselves.
  5. Yes...they should have to be de-sexed!!!! Working as a rescue group there are already so many dogs needing homes. Why should people who have no knowledge about breeding be allowed to back yard breed? Im sick of hearing of people who think it would be good to have a litter to: Teach the kids about puppies Because it would be interesting to see what my dog's puppies would look like It would be cute to have puppies Because some mates would like a dog like mine To make some extra cash and the list goes on.... Leave breeding to the professionals The only option should be adoption www.wheredopuppiescomefrom.com is a great site to visit
  6. Wow...Ms Squish we are going to have a few busy weekends a head of us. Its going to be so funny seeing Asia try to pull a sled Never know she might surprise us all and beat the huskies...lol I cant wait to see Missy have a go...It will sure put her strength and energy to good use. Must remember the squeeky toy Pitbulls are known for pulling x30 times their own weight and I have seen them weight pull cars...so at least I know she will be able to pull my weight...lol
  7. If your dogs paws are cracked or really rough and sore try Lucas Paw Paw ointment (its in a red tube and humans use it for all sorts of skin problems) You can buy it in most chemists, health food shops and alot of supermarkets. It is completely natural, so if licked off will not cause any problems. Rufus and Coco also do a paw butter which you can buy in pet shops and online. Hope this helps.
  8. 100% Eagle Pak I am an animal naturopath and have spent years studying pet food. Eagle Pak doesnt have hardly any fillers or preservatives compared to a lot of the other commercial dog foods. Many pet food use bright coloured packages and pretty images to give the consumer the idea that their food is good for pets. They also use words such as healthy and natural, unfortunately there is no advertising rule stopping them from tricking the consumer into believing they are feeding their pet really good pet food. Just because it is expensive and has pretty packaging doesnt mean its good for your pet. I have also worked in a large pet shop and believe me a lot of staff have little or no idea about half the ingredients each dog food product contains. They purely go on what the company that makes the food has told them (and of course your dog will love it, lol). Also a lot of shops have accounts with certain pet food companies that give them flashy prizes for selling a lot of their food, which means the consumer may not get the best food for their pet. Eagle Pak is one of the better foods on the market. Their fish one is also excellent for dogs with sensitive skin or allergies. Also look for Barf and Ziwipeak...these are top quality food for dogs and contain nothing but all natural ingredients. Hope this helps... Good luck Hope this helps.
  9. After working for Guide Dogs SA, I can honestly say that some general dog owners are completely stupid and have no idea. Numerous times when training young future guide dogs in public areas, people with normal dogs decide to try and socialise their dogs with my dog in training!! The puppy had a guide dog coat in training on and I was in uniform, when this has happened. You also wouldn't believe the amount of people who want to pat guide dogs, and then get offended when told "No". The dog is working and cant afford to have extra distractions. Don't they know how dangerous this can be??? They can cause major dog distraction! Guide Dogs play a very important role in the community, they are not there for people to pat or for other dogs to socialise with. So PLEASE if you see a Guide Dog or Puppy....Stay out of its way and let it do its job!!!
