Thunder and lighting usually sends us all onto the deck with a glass of wine to watch the storm come in (rotti is without wine but finds something appropriate to chew). He ignores the storm. My OH was away yesterday so I didn't do the usual deck routine, the dog did. He headed to the last spot he sat on the deck and watched the storm come in while polishing off his bone. He couldn't care less, I believe I'm more nervous than he is

Snap ValleyCBR. Beautiful dogs. Love the Havana colouring for the Appenzeller too :D

Entlebucher Mountain Dog Or the Appenzeller Mountain Dog I would have bought one of these to add to the family if I could have found a breeder here in Aus.

completely different we had puppacino and morning coffee together this morning no blaring music, quite tranquil actually and the owners down there were definitely not on a mission to get trashed.

Alcohol + more than one dog in a confined space + inebriated owners...I can see some issues if dogs were allowed off leash and if they weren't I'm not sure why they would want to be in rowdy crowds of alcos. People at dog parks are so lax about watching what mischief their dogs are up to, give them alcohol and it would probably only get worse.

I had a friend who's GSD also ate bute and she ended up at the vet with him. Think he seized or passed out. If your dog didn't have any immediate effects, it can't have been that high a dose. It is now 5 months later! I'd call my vet but not be overly concerned, the dog is still alive after all...

Anyone watch Dick Smith or David Attenborough's recent specials on environmental impact of increasing population by the human race on the earth? Here's the attenborough one for those that a bored and need an excuse not to have more children and reduce wastage instead by adding another canine member of the family How many people can live on planet earth doco This guy has reinterpreted the current debate concerning humans and applied it to dogs...by his logic dogs, humans are not responsible and therefore we only need to reduce dogs and not do anything about it, definitely going to save the world with that one :p If you look up problems with the Murray River you actually find that these issues are caused mainly by fertalisers used by farmers required in intensive agricultural practices for human consumption. I hand walked, short 15 min walks. If he got psycho he got put behind the baby gate in a smaller area. He did try and lick the stitches too much so I had to leave the cone on his head (better than taking it on and off all the time in my view). She'll be fine without exercise, my boy has been cooped up for various reasons recovering from this and that (longest in my house without going out at all was over a month), it's only 10 days and better that everything heal correctly so it isn't longer.

That is sad that you can't enjoy them. There are groups of small dogs that meet up for play dates regularly around here and then the big dog groups. It's a shame that some owners ruin it for the owners of smaller dogs

My 35kg rotti was pursued by an insistant playbowing 10kg daschund this morning I kept him with me while owner called this 'rude' little monster off 3 times only for her to keep coming back for more again. My boy would have played nicely he has a JRT that he plays with regularly but I don't know this owner and if my dog accidentally harmed hers I'd be in a spot of bother wouldn't I... I don't mind the dog parks, I play by the rules, my dog plays with known friendly dogs regularly, we all watch for the nasties and stay away from unknowns and small children. You can enjoy dog parks I believe, its just like going anywhere though you need to be a bit sensible about it and keep yourself and dog out of risky situations. FWIW Aussielover I don't think you did anything wrong, the man was just one of those morons we share the earth with because we have to. I think that that complaints to council would not be warranted as the dog didn't actually 'attack' anything. Steer clear next time. Good luck with your pup's desexing op and the quiet period afterwards.

Puppy With Suspected Parvo - Only Had Him 7 Days!
Rottigirl replied to erikajayne's topic in Puppy Chat
yay carter! Puppies are so funny, I gave up on newspaper, pee pee pads and a lump of grass I was told to use to house train. My puppy thought all of them were toys and would shred them and run around maniacally, really funny especially the big square of grass and dirt...not... Carter is also still so little it will take quite a few months before he is able to hold it, when my boy was that small I put a cat bell on him and did regular trips every hour or so outside (or if I heard the bell). Lucky I work from home. Good luck -

Puppy With Suspected Parvo - Only Had Him 7 Days!

Protexin also says not to use with antibiotics because the antibiotics kill the microorganisms so becomes not very useful, I'd wait and give him the PetPepUp when he's finished the amoxyclav treatment. My dog used to eat around the rice too Did you boil the chicken with the rice? The chicken flavour usually makes it more palatable for them? I also have used butternut pumpkins hopefully a little with the meat will help to firm up stools - Secretkai's recipe may be the way to go. -

Hope Carter has improved today. I was strolling around the internet, as I do, and I found a good summary for checking a dog's vital signs. Because you are a newbie at puppy parenting I thought I'd post http://www.dogsvictoria.org.au/cdc/CDC-08-Newsletter4.pdf First signs of d and v together and especially with lack of appetite, or any nasties in vitals and he needs to go back to the vet, unfortunately puppies are costly when they are sick. Pet insurance is good to minimise vet costs. -
nyawww rotti puppy he is absolutely adorable ...we are crossing everything that you can get him well quickly.

agree with persephone (make sure mince is low fat though), glad he is eating something -
I have an issue with parents allowing children to go into areas of obvious risk without supervision but you can blame the parents all you like, it doesn't mean that if your dog accidentally injured their child you are not legally liable. I had a situation recently where a small child eating an ice cream walks onto tiny dog beach occupied by several dogs playing off leash...what is likely to occur...let me see... Option 1: dog eats child's ice cream ; Option 2: all dogs ignore child and play together happily; Option 3: Dogs accidentally knock over small child; or Option 4: Small child does something completely inappropriate and calls over dogs waves ice cream in the dogs' faces, screams maniacally and runs in the opposite direction causing dogs to pursue small child Yep option 4 occured. Lesson learnt. I have resolved dog must be on leash around children. It is just too dangerous, I would be the one blamed if my dog wasn't under effective control and hurt the child irrespective of whether I consider child should not have been on beach, child was unsupervised or the child's erratic behaviour caused it. Thank god my boy loves kids and doesn't like icecream Public place means dog must be under effective control and the rest of the public has just as much right to be there as well. I find it absolutely idiotic that known off leash dog parks are visited by families with small children that hate dogs but there are morons everywhere, shame we have to share the universe with them All you can do is keep your dog safe by foreseeing and preventing harm to the ignorant visitors. I must say though I don't mind educating kids that approach my dog it doesn't do any harm to give them a pep talk about being calm around dogs, how to approach, to always ask before touching any dog and never to touch an unsupervised dog.

Was he eating at the vets before they sent him home? What was the vet feeding? Is he drinking OK? Get on the phone to the breeder and find out the best way to help pup recover, breeders have usually nursed heaps of weak and sick pups and know how to get them back to health so she will be able to help you (even though she had a hissy fit I would still ask for help). My game plan for recovering puppy with sensative belly: 1. Soup (plain chicken frame boiled in water, remove frame and fat feed to dog). Tilly's recipe also sounds good the pumpkin is great for diarrhea (I would make sure stock is very weak though - some chicken stock contains heaps of junk like MSG etc). 2. Boiled lean chicken and rice (remove fat) feed a spoonfull wait an hour and then feed a tiny bit more if he eats or get a can of Hills Prescription i/d from your vet to try him on (easily digestible and the turkey protein seems to agree with most dogs). It's expensive but great for sensative bellies. With all meals keep really small and feed 6 times daily if needed then increase amount of food slowly and decrease the amount of meals very very gradually. Don't introduce any new food until the system is stable for 3-5 days (everything is going in and out the right way). If my boy refuses sardines I know he is sick (sardines are his favourite). If he is refusing food that he was eating before I'd call the vet. Good luck. -
I voted BARF because that is the majority of our food although I also give kibble in toys. I was feeding Eagle Pack Holistic, due to supply he is now trying Eukaneuba LBP and Ziwipeak mixed. Seems to do OK on it but I'll be switching the Eukaneuba and trying Royal Canin Maxi Junior if we aren't happy after this bag. I would do Nutro or Canidae but the calcium/phospherous combination isn't right for a LBP so he will have to wait another 11 months before he can try them.

Excellent, every little bit helps. Not sure on the other hand if I'd wish my rotti to shop with me. Imagine clothes shopping with the rotti in the dressing room lol -
