  1. Thank you for everyone for your comments - might see if I can find a better vet!
  2. Hi Sky, From memory it had ten teams consisting of a handler and their dog who competed in various challenits paws or letting it roll over and over with paint on it to the really interesting eg having the dog do a Sit-Stay while an elephant was walked quickly towards them trumpeting!! I was blown away by a little Maltese named Andrew who was not jus tthe only dog to hold his Stay when confronted with the elephant but actually yawned!! I think there was a huge amount of politicking in it and various training methods were absolutely torn to shreds (regardless of whether or not they had worked) but over all a very interesting and entertaining show
  3. This all kind of supports how I was feeling but I hated feeling so worried and guilty when I ;left him there. He is a 1 year old dog who has seen this vet his entire life/.
  4. Hi all, Took my dog to be neutered today - had made the appointment two weeks ago. While standing in the waiting room after he had been led off I was told that he should also undergo a thorough blood test which would ensure that the absolutely right anaesthetic for him could be administered correctly as it would reveal info about his kidney and liver etc. It would also reveal if he had any issues so they could be dealt with promptly. The cost would be $240.00 I declined. They then said that they were now recommending all dogs undergoing a GA to have fluid therapy - they explained the advantages of it to me - and it sounded great. The cost was another $200 I declined They then said that while he was under the anaesthetic they could remove his hind dew claws - at the very cheap rate of $90.00 Again I declined. I came away feeling terrible as most of these procedures sounded like things I should certainly have done for my boy but why on earth didn't they mention them when I made the initial appointment so I could have budgeted so much more? Is this usual practice? PS they did clip his claws free of charge!
  5. I caught it online but was curious what others thought of it?
  6. I agree that watching CM is like watching a brilliant natural dancer and the give and take or back and forth between him and the dog is very subtle. I do think that CM struggles to put into words sometimes what it is exactly that he is observing and responding to as for him it seems almost instinctive (or that it happens on a level which maks it seem that way) That is why his show stresses that others should not try these techniques as it is not a method whereby *If your dog does A then you must do B and that will create C* He responds to what energy the dog is displaying to him and vice versa. I think the greatest athletes, dancers, duellists etc all have this ability and it is very very hard to translate that simply into a series of technical steps. Thank you to all the people on this thread who responded aith intelligent and educated comments - I have learned a lot!
  7. Hi - I am trying to contact either Pam or Kacie Neale from Premer NSW regarding their Japanese Chins - can anyone help me please?
  8. Thanks very much for the info guys - I will check them both out over the coming weeks! Thanks so much!
  9. Am looking for any agility or obedience clubs that train weekends or evenings in these areas please?
  10. That is great Leopuppy - they are just toooooo cute!
  11. Are you looking for homes for them or are they already spoken for? They look so pretty and their mother looks to be a real sweetheart! Well one you!
  12. Robbi - is that the Bruce that was in the news for what seemed like years? Seized for being a PitBull and then kept in terrible conditions while his family fought for his release??"
  13. Last year Ashley Barton re-homed her Miniature Pinscher named Levi vis Dogzonline as she was going back to NZ and couldn't take him with her. A woman on DOL siad she could rehome him to a friend of hers (a Piano teacher?) in Brisbane. the dog has apparently been handed in to a rescue agency as it was found roaming the streets six weeks ago and its microchip details had not been changed over. we are now very keen to reunite Levi with his owner but can't find this lady's details. Can anyone help??
  14. Pushing his wife to the ground????? Where was this reported?
  15. I am guilty Mita and I owe Dr Chris an apology. I have felt he is a bit...tv-bite if you know what I mean and I was a bit cynical about the whole puppy mill thing after he had recommended buying a Malamute from PP BUT it appears that he was genuinely shocked and appalled by what he saw at the puppymill raid in Gippsland and has now committed to doing something about it. Good on him! Chris - I applaud you for doing something to help th4ese poor dogs and using your fame to achieve it - well done!
  16. Friends of mine gave their widowed mother (after she had agreed!!) a gift basket of puppy items ie bed, chews etc and they made a Puppy gift Voucher for the breeder of her choice to be redeemed for one puppy! That way they got to give the gift but she actually got to choose and pick the ideal puppy for her plus there was no time frame on it so she was able to plan when it best suited her to bring a puppy into her home.
  17. Maybe he has turned over a new leaf and realised the error of his ways - perhaps he will explain that the puppies in petshops do come from puppy mills - and if that is the case I will be the first to congratulate him! ......but I am not holding my breath
  18. I have to take umbrage - that is NOT a two-tone Golden Retriever - it is an extremely rare and thus very expensive - Parti-Coloured Golden Labrador Retriever!! Anyway - I am so sick of these type sof dogs - I want a REAL dog like my granddad owned - best dog that ever lived and none of these modern dogs can even come close. He was an Alsashun and was perfectly trained even as an 8 week old puppy, never chewed, weed or pooed, could tell with uncanny psychic ability when to bark an intruder off the property and when to welcome a total stranger that we wanted to have on the property. He was brave and loyal but great with every one and with all animals (except the bad ones of course) So that is what I want - a good old fashioned perfect Alsayshun. Actually if it could be crossed with a poodle that would be good cos that will make it smarter and non-shedding but won't change anything else about it. So one Alsayshadoodle please!
  19. I just caught a preview of this week's 7PM Project on which the Bondi Vet is looking all concerned and sincere and extolling the evils of puppy mills. Is this not the same man who helped a family choose their new puppy from a Pet Shop???!!! Where does he think those puppies come from?
  20. What is *the malamute incident* please?
  21. Just by the by - I don't think dogs traveling on trains have to be muzzled do they?
  22. We had a wonderful time meeting you and getting to explore a part of Melbourne I have never walked around before! Such a pretty day and yes the dogs were absolutely exhausted but very happy. (Sorry my daughter wasn't as pleasant company as the dogs were! ) I hope you got some useable shots and thanks again so much for the opportunity to take part!
  23. Hi Sal - oh you poor thing!! I totally understand how you feel and I find myself getting into that spiral too! I think the most important thing to remember at this stage is that it is FAR better for the puppy to be in her pen happily playing with her chew toys etc when you cannot supervise her and have you feel guilty than it is for you to get angry at her when she does her usual puppy things. Better you feel momentary guilt than it is to have you feeling so stressed and angry with her that it affects your relationship. Pen her when you must and play/train/interact with her when you are calm and relaxed and have the time to actually enjoy her puppy antics!
