Beautiful pictures everyone Both Simi and Acheron love the hose and sprinklers and Acheron loves having a bath. Simi has not been to the beach yet but I bet she will love that too. Today I came home for luch and when I let Simi outside she went straight for the water bowl :D

Experiences With Evo And Canidae Pure Elements
Remarkabull replied to Elise+Hudson's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used to feed EVO a few years ago and I thought it was great and so did my dogs. I stopped using it as I didn't want to give my business to PP. However, Natura (company who makes EVO) has been taken over by a new owner (or something like that) and PP no longer have the monopoly on selling it. If it was available up here I'd buy it again and give it a go on my current dogs. -
I have fed Black Hawk, TOTW, VAN and many other varieties of dog food both dry and raw and they have done pretty well on all of them. I now have a new pup who did not seem to take to the VAN very well (we tried for over 2 weeks) so now we are feeding Holistic Select. I really like TOTW but it costs me $35 in postage to get it here and it is more convenient for me to be able to get something locally. I still feed raw 3-4 nights a week, but instead of VAN I mix my own raw food for them and they are all happy on that, including the new pup. There is no miracle food and no matter how well your dogs do on something there will be someone out there whose dogs hated it, looked like crap on it, it made them sick, drink too much water, poo to much/not enough etc. If it works for you and your dogs then great, if not find something else and move on!

Feel Like Slapping Your Forehead?
Remarkabull replied to Fit for a King's topic in General Dog Discussion
Excellent posts Steve. I find all of this very fascinating as we have just become the proud owners of an Australasian Bosdog (Aussie Bulldog). She is registered with the ABS and it has been interesting reading up on all of this type of thing. As you said there is more than one registry for Aussie Bulldogs and the ABS is the one that is aiming for recognition by the ANKC. It is still a few years away yet but I have no doubt that it will happen sooner or later. Another registry is still using British Bulldogs in their breeding programs and I have also noticed that some of the 'breeders' charge a substantial amount more than others and some also seem to be breeding for colour (I noticed a number of 'blue' puppies on the website that were much higher in price than the others). They also have not changed their name to Australasian Bosdog or any other name as they are not interested in being recognised by the ANKC at this point in time. The ABS has recently changed their standard to say that blue, black or black pied were not accepted colours. I don't agree with randomly crossing any 2 dogs just for the sake of it, but I have no problem with people who have a vision in mind and are prepared to do it the right way. -

Gorgeous! That exact one? Male or female? I love the look of Malinois, although I could never be the right kind of owner for one. Way too full on for me, I can barely keep up enough exercise and stimulation to my working line Dobe and he'd be nothing compared to a Mal! Which is why our most recent addition is a Bulldog, much more easy going  and more suitable for my lay husband! -

Does Anyone Else's Dog Get Sick When Wormed?
Remarkabull replied to trinabean's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My JRT gets sick after having Drontal worming tablets. All other brands I've tried are fine and she has no reaction to them. None of my other dogs have had problems with any brand of wormer. -
I grew up with Dobermans and I will always love them but we have recently added a new pup to our pack and based on her and her parents and the other dogs of her breed that we have met we will stick with them from now on. Absolutely outstanding temperament, personality and adorable too! So it is Australian Bulldogs for us from now on, however we have decided when we get 'old' we want to have French Bulldogs. I have always wanted an Afghan Hound and I also love Pointers but will probably never own one of either. OH would love a Pug one day too.

I LOVE BT's! I used to own 2 a few years ago and they were so adorable and sweet. -
Only 1 of my dogs likes cat poo and the disgusting little devil takes this wonderful treat to my room and up on my bed to enjoy it in comfort! We just keep a close eye on the litter tray - fortunately the cats mostly toilet outside so it doesn't happen too often.

Interesting Video Of Dogs 100 Years Ago And Today
Remarkabull replied to Janba's topic in General Dog Discussion
No-one said all GSD's look like that. I have never really been a huge fan of the GSD (too much hair for me), but every now and then I see one who just takes my breath away with it's beauty. Unfortunately I also see some that make me wonder what on earth some people are thinking (sometimes these are show dogs, other times not) . Actually that happens with many breeds, not just the GSD and often I think it's BYB's that are to blame for many of the 'issues' that the average person bases their opinion of a breed on. People down the street breed 'staffys' and let me tell you these 2 dogs look nothing like a real SBT but most people think that this is what a SBT looks like and would probably think that a nice pedigree SBT was a cross breed. I think that there is fault on both sides and the BYB's are not going to change anything for the better of the breed so it's up to the responsible registered breeders to do so. -
My kids have sleep overs (at home and at other people houses) and it is fine. It's not like I go out of my way to be nasty or anything I just prefer not to be around kids most of the time. I want my kids to have friends and because of that I try really hard to ignore the things that irritate me. I can interact with kids just fine when I want/need to and no, I don't think kids are thinking to themselves this women doesn't like me. I don't go about telling kids that I don't like them and I certainly make an effort with my kids friends and I do enjoy some children and I like babies. I don't feel comfortable with children once they are around 2 or more. I thought my own kids were gorgeous at that age and because they were mine I had no problems interacting with them, but other people kids, who I don't have a bond with (nor do I want or need one) I'd rather not have to 'pretend' to want to talk to or spend time with them because I really don't. Don't be sad for me, or my kids, they are loved and love me in return and have a very good life. As for other peoples kids, they're theirs to love, talk to, play with etc. The thing is, I resent that other people feel that I should like kids just because they feel strongly about it.
-
It doesn't matter why someone dislikes children/dogs/cats etc, the point is it is their decision and as long as it's not hurting anyone why does it matter so much? Why must we all be tolerant, have patience and try to like everyone's children. I dislike many things, it doesn't make me bad. I am impatient and get annoyed quickly with kids, even my own, but it doesn't mean I would not give my life to save them if necessary or assist a child in need if I thought they were in danger. Outside of that though I'd prefer to not have much to do with them (except my own of course).
-
I have children and dogs. I love my kids, but I definitely am not keen on kids in general. I also would ask what exactly is wrong with disliking kids? We all have our preferences and as long as people are not going around hurting kids I really don't care if people hate them or not. I remarried almost 2 years ago and my husband, who is 5 years younger than I, thankfully has no desire to have children of his own. We will be sticking with dogs from now on :)

I don't really think that stating the breed was necessary. I am sure any dog that has a strange dog and police burst onto their property would react the same. I find it sad when police dogs get injured. I hope he recovers quickly and gets back out on the beat to help track down the bad guys. I actually agree that the breed is irrelevant and we don't know how accurate his 'guess' at what breed the attacking dog was and was just pointing out that the officer had stated, on national TV, that the attacking dog was a "pittbull".

I just saw an interview on Today with the dog and handler. The police handler said it was a Pittbull that came out of the house and attacked his dog.

He's very cute :) Are his legs very short or is that just the way the pic was taken (or long grass)? Maybe it's because his little belly is so fat and that makes his legs look shorter, either way he is adorable -
I'd be devastasted if my dog was shot, however I wouldn't lay the blame at anybodies feet except my own. If MY dog is roaming then it is MY fault/problem, not the problem of other people. Yesterday I went to the vets to get some worming tablets and while I was waiting one of the nurses brought out a SBT who had stitches and drains all over her head, neck and chest. I asked her owner what had happened to her and the answer was that she had got out of the yard and was attacked by another dog. Apparently this dog is a serial 'escape artist' and gets out regularly. The dogs owner and the nurses were all making noises about how horrible the other dog must be (probably, but without knowing exactly what happened it's just a guess) and that this sweet little girl wouldn't hurt a fly etc. All I kept thinking was if you had made sure your dog was safe in it's yard then it wouldn't be here right now! If your yard cannot contain your dog then leave it in the house, build a dog run of even chain the bloody thing up so the rest of us don't have to deal with it!
-
It's not a 'premium' food and many people will recommend trying something 'better', however I have used this food in the past and the dogs that I raised and continued to feed it to for many years were always very healthy, looked great and had no problems with it. I did also feed raw meaty bones a couple of times a week as well as Bonnie, so that probably helped too. There are worse foods out there and there a better ones as well, but if your dog is doing well on it and you can't afford to get a premium kibble or feed raw then there is nothing wrong with it.

What Facinations Do Your Dogs Have?
Remarkabull replied to Sankari's topic in General Dog Discussion
Acheron is obsessed with me and balls/toys. Flash is a JRT so she is obsessed with anything that moves and is smaller than her! She goes nuts over the geckos every night, sitting at the back door crying to be let out so she can hunt them. She is also obsessed with bugs and beetles of all descriptions and is exceptionally good and killing rats/mice. She will also watch animals on TV, especially if they are rodents! Thankfully none of the dogs are interested in frogs or cane toads.
