  1. Lol, she is one 'horny bitch'! I've only had 3 bitches in the past and although they had a season or 2 before being spayed they never behaved like this. Hopefully the stud is as keen as she is and isn't intimidated by her.
  2. I can't post in the breeders section so thought id ask for opinions here. Simi is in season ATM, day 10, and since yesterday she has been behaving like never before. Since about day 4-5 my desexed Dobe has shown a little bit of interest in her and has made a few half hearted attempts to mount her but yesterday she has been sniffing, licking at his penis and desperately trying to hump him. She won't leave him alone and as soon as she can get to him she's at it again! She literally chases him down to do it and he is running from her (which is very unlike him) I have had entire bitches before but never one that has behaved like this! Anyone else's bitch do anything like this? Just wanted to add that they are separated when we are not home and while she is doing this they are only together under supervision.
  3. None of us know the exact circumstances of what happened that day, but I can say with certainty that unless the guy made a conscious decision to leave the dog then I feel empathy for him too. Of course i feel terrible how that poor dog suffered and died, but as a human being I can only imagine how I would be feeling if I had done the same thing and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. That doesn't mean I place more value on people or dogs or anything else, its simply the way I feel and I don't understand why some of you are so offended by the feelings and opinions of others. I can't imagine that any Doler would be anything other than horrified by the death of Collette and to suggest otherwise is just silly.
  4. Some breeds I've noticed have a stronger smell than others. Cockers are one of those breeds. I wouldn't stress about it, I have 4 dogs that are all inside the house when we are home and there is always 2 dogs inside even when we're out so there is a slight dog smell to my house most of the time.its not overbearing and its usually not noticeable as I clean floors equally and we have no carpet. My dogs are washed weekly and eat a mostly raw diet so its just one of those things. I don't find it offensive at all, in fact it's kind of comforting :) I have to say that at the moment it's a bit wiffy here as Simi is in season and that's a whole different smell!
  5. Barkley sleeps in my bed, Simi sleeps in my room in a crate, but when OH is away she sleeps on the bed :) Recently Flash and Acheron have been moved outside at night. They have beds if they want them and no worries about getting cold up here. If weather is bad (monsoon, cyclone etc) then they will come inside.
  6. I hate the FB buy, swap and sell sites! I usually ignore the puppy and dog ads but sometimes it gets the better of me and I say something. I usually end up getting abused and ganged up on, including by the local PAWS lady who spouts the most unbelievable crap most of the time. I would have ignored this one too but the other lady was getting hammered so I chimed in and said that she was correct. We ended up chatting by PM and having a giggle about how stupid they were and how embarrassing for them to be so wrong and yet so certain they were right :)
  7. The other lady has already posted a link to ANKC website, apparently we are still wrong. Her parents are breeders and they know! Now she is saying that it must be because in some states the SBT has been declared as a dangerous dog so they must have changed the name. It's too frustrating, I can't even look at the posts anymore!
  8. Oh god, now there is another one telling us that there is definitely 'English and American Staffys, they are 2 different types of Staffys' Face palm, rolls eyes and any other emoticon that fits is really needed!
  9. I'm currently watching, kind of participating in 'disagreement' on FB about 'English Staffies' Myself and another lady are trying to tell a breeder of 23 years that there is no such breed as English Staffordshire Terrier. The breeder is insisting that it says English on her dogs papers and that some of her dogs are show champions etc. She also says that at shows they are referred to as either English or American Staffordshire. now I see all the time on here people saying that there is no such thing and I've even directed this lady to come to DOL and check with the breeders of SBT to see what they say. I am sure I'm correct about this but she is insisting that she is correct and will even put puma pic of her dogs papers that show the word English on there. Help me out please?
  10. I also wouldn't rate Eukanuba anywhere near the best food for dogs. I feed mostly raw, that I make myself. It's not hat expensive and my dogs look amazing on it. A couple of days a week they get Earthborn Holistic kibble, although I can't get it in NT and I've decided it's not worth the extra $35 to get it posted up here so I'm on the last bag of it now. I haven't decided what ill use instead but will probably try Eagle Pack as I've used it in h past and they did well on it too. I'm about to breed my bitch for the first time and the pups will be fed the same as the adults :)
  11. I don't like human names for pets, however the one kind of exception to that rule is my TB gelding who I named Axl, after Axl Rose :) The rest are: Dogs Flash Barkley Acheron Simi Cats Azrael Lulu (my daughter chose that one) Nermal We also have a cockatoo called Hades and awe getting a new horse this weekend and his name is Trumby.
  12. They didn't get a digital copy The owner and head vet was apparently away when she was in there and he doesn't know why they didn't either. I'm still the one making all the calls trying to chase everything up, they don't seem to have any interest in helping me. Simi has just come into season so looks like we won't be breeding her this season now. So disappointed.
  13. Unfortunately I have to have them scored by Lavelles. I have called Lavelles twice now so he is aware that they were supposed be there and he has been checking for them since last Thursday. If he doesn't get them by tomorrow we are assuming they have been lost and will have to re do X-rays. I will ask if they can try and do them without a GA.
  14. The X-rays are for hip and elbow scores. I called the specialist that they were sent to today and he has not yet received them. Simi's breeder had 2 of her young dogs done 2 weeks before I took Simi in and she had the results within 3 business days so almost 2 weeks is ridiculous. They have offered to redo the X-rays for free but they shouldn't have to if they had done the right thing to begin with and now my dog has to have another GA. I will not be using this vet again
  15. My husband is furious and ripped into them over the phone today. I'm just really upset about it all. I was so worried when she was there for the first GA andi really don't want to have to put her through it again
  16. That's what I thought too but the owner rang us back tonight and said that this is the first he has heard of any, of it and that they don't have a copy. Apparently he was away when she went in and he said they should have scanned them but didn't.
  17. So Simi had X-rays almost 2 weeks ago and they were mailed to Lavelles in VIC for evaluation and I called today as I still don't have the results and was told that they have not received them yet. I called the vet and was told I'd get a call back ASAP and over 7 hours later had not heard back from them so I went in there and was basically fobbed off and told that they had mailed them and basically wiped their hands of it from that point. My husband was furious and called them and asked for the tracking number so we could at least find out where they were and he is told that they were sent by regular post, not express like we were told. So he asks them to send another copy by express post and we will pay for it if necessary, BUT they didn't get any copies of the X-rays. So now it looks like Simi has to have yet another GA so more X-rays can be taken. I'm so frustrated by all this. Is it normal that there wouldn't be at least 1 copy of the X-rays or at least shouldn't they scan them or something? I don't understand why they wouldn't send them by registered post? Sigh......rant over
  18. I was discussing this with my husband only a few days ago and I told him that if there was no way of getting the animals out then I'd stay with them. Most years we have at least one cyclone warning and as our house is coded it is safest for us to stay here anyway. My husband is Army so I also know that we won't go without food and water in such an emergency and we could keep the animals with us. If we had to get in the car and leave our house I'd bring all 4dogs and our cockatoo but depending on circumstances I'd leave the cats and the snake if I didn't have any other choice
  19. I saw this on my FB feed. Many of the comments are cringeworthy and ignorant. Sigh.......
  20. Lol, $600 up here is the cheapest I can get it done and I have to send results to a specialist for scoring. Everything is more expensive in the NT! No Simi is not a Dobe, but is getting scored for the purpose of breeding. It is a requirement that she is hip scored and must meet the criteria before we can breed or her puppies can't be registered.
  21. Thanks for responses :) Simi is a young dog and has no obvious health issues, although she has not had to have an Anesthetic before so maybe this time it would be better to get it done just to be safe. It's not the money that was making me consider not having it done (when you're paying $600 for X-rays another $100 doesn't matter too much) but more whether or not a young healthy dog really needs them. She won't be under for long as she isn't having surgery but I suppose if she did have a health issue even a short time could be dangerous. Lots to think about :)
  22. Next Thursday Simi will be going to be X-rayed for hip and elbow scoring and I know I will be asked if I want them to do pre Anesthetic bloodwork on her. My initial response is no, it's not needed. I have worked in a few vet clinics and it was not something that was done and there were no major problems because of it. Is it really needed, or just another way for vets to make some extra money? Thoughts please :)
  23. When I was 11 we had to have one our Dobes PTS. My dad couldn't go as he can't cope with that type of thing and my mum is not the strongest person emotionally so I went with her. I remember that I sat on the floor and held his head in my lap while he died. The vet left us alone with him and I decided when it was time to leave. I told mum not to look back at him but she did and she completely lost it. I held it together until we got into the car and we both bawled for half an hour and then went home. It is a very tough thing to go through but kids are tougher than we think. When the time comes for any of my current dogs to leave us I will ask the kids if they want to be there or if they would prefer to say goodbye before. I think what you did was lovely, poor kid
  24. This is disgusting. Those horses look to be in fine condition. Christ you should see the emaciated horses in Darwin over the dry season and RSPCA does nothing about them! I hope it all comes out about how bloody useless and corrupt they are.
