  1. Thanks that is EXACTLY what i needed to hear i think.
  2. My golden boy is going through his first coat change and we are off to the Royal on Saturday. I plan to hydro bath him and dry his coat with a cool dryer Friday night. As this is my first dog to go through a change of coat i need to know what to avoid and best way to keep as much coat as possible.
  3. Sounds like a double up to me, but i don't live in a tick area. Are you in a heavy tick area?
  4. Like TB has said, antibiotics are only useful if it becomes a bacterial infection. When my dogs had it I didn't treat them with antibiotics, i gave them Bryonia for the cough and treated them with Robert McDowell's KC Mixture & Vit C which helped build up their immune systems to allow their bodies to fight it off naturally. Antibiotics actually lower the immune system, so if you give them to your dog when they don't have an infection, you are making it worse for them and actually slowing down the healing process.
  5. You will probably have to keep them away for longer than that, it's 2 weeks AFTER they STOP coughing, and they can cough for around 10 days. It's a pain, i know, my two had it recently and we missed shows, but the worst of it was that I had to stop treating one of my dogs for a skin problem until the kennel cough was gone, which was a delay he just didn't need! Not to mention I lost a days wage having to take the day off because i was kept awake all night by coughing. It's so frustrating when people knowingly take their dogs to shows and spread it around. Edited because it didn't make sense
  6. My Golden Retriever is a huge scoffer, yet he is great with Chicken Frames. He eats them so slowly. He used to swallow wings whole so I just hand fed him for a while until he got the gist of chewing. Now he is much better. If your dog will allow it, maybe just hold onto the frame while he eats it, and just allow him to take off a bit at a time.
  7. Have seen this before and yes, the pimple ball is widely available in Australia. The manufacturer is recalling the product in America, sadly, the Australian importer doesn't appear to be doing the same.
  8. I wouldn't feed pet grade roo, sorry. The place i called up to enquire about it, they said that when the roos are shot they are inspected and if the roo are not up to being cut up for human quality then they are left for pet meat. I can only imagine how long they would leave them sitting in the heat for before they get them back to the factory, or why they weren't fit for human consumption in the first place. I only feed human grade meat to my dogs.
  9. Natural yoghurt doesn't have any additives. No sugar, no flavour, just plain natural yoghurt
  10. I make my own too, they get the premium pro-biotic one and i get the cheaper one One litre for $3, i can't complain about that!
  11. Here are the differences between Comfort Class & Profi Class in the new range, but it doesn't make a world of sense to me: PROFI CLASS One cutting edge honed, one micro-serrated for accurate cutting; no bunching of the hair Models now available with satin finish Stopper and finger rest improve comfortable working posture Soft finger ring inserts Classic models Professional stainless steel VARIO screw for setting the cutting action COMFORT CLASS Hollow-ground for enhanced sharpness Honing on both blades for good slice cutting ability Polished finish now available on ergonomically designed models Classic models with satin finish Professional stainless steel FriodurĀ® intense cooling process for longer cutting performance VARIO screw for setting the cutting action Soft finger ring inserts
  12. I bought some Jaguar double sided thinners today. The ones i got are 'Jaguar High-Tech' Comfort Class and it seems they have improved on these with the Advance range.... "ADVANCE WE HAVE IMPROVED THE JAGUAR FOR YOU. AND OUR SCISSORS, TOO, OF COURSE. We admit, it is, indeed, a difficult matter to improve on something as perfect as a Jaguar. It is just as difficult to improve on successful precision tools like our scissors and make them more efficient. But that is exactly what we have done. The new Jaguar ADVANCE range of scissors sets new standards. The results are ADVANCE cut, a unique grinding process which produces a cutting edge sharper than ever before, even more accurately made blades and new screws. The entire Jaguar line has been subjected to this complete overhaul. But one of the best improvements is that there is no change in the prices. New, enhanced quality at prices you know. " The thing is, the ones i got are COMFORT CLASS and in the new range, they only seem to come in the PROFI CLASS. The Profi Class ones i tried seem alot sharper, but i don't know alot about scissors. I am hoping someone here will have some idea. I can take the ones i bought back and get the other ones.
  13. I was recommended to contact Andrea at Adelaide Homeopathic Clinic who i had a 90 minute in depth phone consult with. She posted out my remedies that same day. I can't recommend her highly enough. I don't know of anyone in Victoria.
  14. Your 11 week old cute little bundle of joy is going to turn into a gremlin that destorys anything that isn't quick enough to get away from her in a number of weeks. I wouldn't spend that much money on a snooza bed until i knew she was past the destucto stage. My 11 month old Golden Retriever ate his 3rd doggie door and about his 10th bed today. I have decided not to replace or fix anything unessential until he has finished his mission of destruction.
  15. Juice it sounds like your dog has a skin infection. Did the vet do a skin swab? Have a look at this site, i dont use these people but see a different homeopath for my dogs but they have alot of information on here which may give you some ideas... Holistic Animal Medicines
  16. Thanks very much. I wasn't even treating as i thought i might have to keep it away from all food. I'll get some tasty liver out and that should keep them happy. The poor babies, its bad enough being sick without feeling like Mum is trying to kill you as well
  17. I didn't get an advice sheet. I was given the mixture by a friend.
  18. I have been giving this mixture for a few days now and it is working very nicely. I have been using a syringe to squirt it into their mouths but they are hating it. It has such a strong taste and I imagine it's not pleasent having it squirted in their mouths. I tried to call Robert but no one is there today. Can i mix it with their food? This would be so much easier. Or is there some other way i can get them to take it?
  19. Really? Bloody inconsiderate neighbour! ;) Yeah so inconsiderate that i informed my neigbours, and have driven 20 minutes home and 20 minutes back to work every day in my lunch break so that the dogs can stay inside all day ever since i discovered they had kennel cough
  20. Oh Byron loves Salmon heads. Tyler carries them around and then spits them in disgust and repeats that process for an hour until i give up and give her something else..... she doesn't get them anymore. They are very good for the dogs, go for it!
  21. Under 5kg - 1ml 6-10 kg - 2ml 11-15kg - 3ml 16-20kg - 4ml 21-30kg - 5ml 31-40kg - 6ml Info here I am sorry that your boy seems to have caught it. Unfortunately the nature of the virus is that it spreads before you even know your dog has it. My dogs have been inside all day today trying to stop the spread. What sypmtoms does he have? Like others have said, antibiotics are useless unless their is an infection, and they will only lower his immune system and not allow his body to fight it naturally if you give them when not needed. Your neighbour
  22. "While the larvae are developing in the mosquito, development continues only when the temperature is above 64 degrees F. Further, the temperature MUST remain above 57 degrees Fahrenheit at all times, day and night during the entire mosquito cycle. If at any time during the development into the L3 stage, the temperature drops below 57 F, the development is aborted and must start over."
  23. Its not a question of whether or not mozzies bite during winter, but the heartworm larvae cannot survive if the temperatue drops below 13 or 14 degrees and the whole process needs to start again, sorry if i confused you.
  24. Does anyone from Southern VIC take a break in their heartworm prevention over the winter period? I have to take my 10 month old puppy off all chemicals for a few months. From everything i have read, it seems to be relatively safe to do as long as the temperature doesn't stay above 13 degrees for an entire 3 week period, day and night, which is highly unlikely around here for quite some time. I am planning on putting him on a homeopathic remedy for the next few months just to be sure. Any info appreciated. Also.... does anyone know the heartworm prevelance in South East VIC? I can find Eastern, but nothing about Southern VIC.
  25. I only get beef brisket, i have never seen lamb brisket. I guess it is the ribs which is what lamb flaps are :D
