Hip Dysplasia In Labrador Puppy
Mason_Gibbs replied to luclen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What happens is entirely up to each individual case and the future well being of the animal involved. The Breeder has stepped up and refunded on the pup, what they do now is their business alone. Well they could do nothing and sell the pup again They could see a "specialist" rather than just a "vet" and either get the all clear or bad news They could PTS the pup They could do nothing in the short term, xray the dog at 12 plus months and have the scores read by someone qualified to do so They could give the pup away with full disclosure of any problems It's really the business of the breeder only and I doubt I'd inform a former owner what I opted to do with the puppy Yup it is their business but I was just wondering what the options were thats all Genuine question as I had no idea. -
Never heard that about dry sand jakeysangles, my guess is that if it was every day it may be an issue but once in awhile would not be too bad, its the impact on the joints on hard ground that is an issue, with horses in very soft sand they used to get sore backs but no hip/joint issues...... Stairs are not great, we had 5 stairs at our old place and my older lab is no worse for wear but we really had no choice and they were quite wide big steps so lucky he only took one at a time.

I was just wondering at what age do you start rear end awareness with your dogs and what do you do to teach this??

Poodlefan I must have just gotten lucky as with my first boy we had 3 stairs in our house that he had to go up and down ( he was too big for me to lift everytime when he was 16 weeks). I was a bit careful with his weight but he has had absolutely no hip/joint problems and he does sometimes play rough with my friends lab, he did this from 16 weeks. What is happening to the puppy, are they rehoming or what is the plan? -

Could the pup not be returned to you and the breeder pay for the surgery?? Otherwise what is the breeder going to do with the pup?? -
Thanks for explaining Sandgrubber. So my yellow pup will carry choc ( his mum) and black because the other pups in the litter were black and mum carries black??

Low Income, But Still Want Pet Insurance..
Mason_Gibbs replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
I will always have insurance, my allergy dog cost me heaps the first year, if i had no insurance i would be out of pocket for a few thousand dollars but instead was only out the premium for the year which was + - $450. -

Food drive is good but i think what Gibbs was doing is actually having a tantrum for food, throwing himself at my legs and howling - he had no idea that to get food he has to work for it( he knows it now!!!) he is just a baby with heaps to learn, i think he is an awesome addition to our family and maybe he will make it to the obedience ring or compete in retrieving trial i guess time will tell

ETA I think waiting for a treat or for food is actually not really training manners but more training self control in certain situations. I dont care if puppy gets excited for other things but I had dogs who mugged me before for their meals and I wont go down that road again. Yes his food drive is making him easy to train - no I wont kill his excitement when training other things, and he can act feral then but certain things in this house is not allowed.
