  1. Me either They shouldn't look like kegs. x2 Who said anything about kegs. Their bones shouldn't be showing I'm sure your opinions will change with another photo. Can anyone actually help with the BARF side of things?
  2. Trust me, she's thin. I'll try and get another photo later, like I said though, it doesn't show how bad she actually is.
  3. To cut a long story short, yesterday afternoon I welcomed a 3 year old female American Staffy into my home, I purchased her off a registered breeder. Upon getting to the house to meet her I was disgusted at what I saw. This dog may as well have been a Greyhound. Her ribs are showing badly and basically she is just extremely thin! On the way home on the car seat her legs were wobbling like she couldn't hold herself up properly. I'm wondering what I should feed her to put her weight back on? I'll be taking her to be weighed today and somehow I don't think I'm going to like what I see.. Any food suggestions would be great. I'm hoping to eventually put her on a BARF diet if I can find a good recipe so even if someone could just help me with that, it would be very helpful. I have uploaded a photo of her, it doesn't show how thin she really is though. By the way, the breeders excuse was she had been running on a farm, what a load of sh!t! when i got her home and fed her, she ate like nothing I'd ever seen.
  4. That looks like a great place to explore! what breed is Hamlet? :D
  5. Unfortunately I wouldn't even consider taking this dog. I'm not a fan of small dogs and this boy has far too many issues for me to take on, not that I couldn't work with him but I really just don't want to :D I will have my own puppy to care for next week.. He has found a new home now so I'm sure he will have a much better and stress free life with this new lady. I just called the vet that the lady said he was getting desexed at to make sure she actually DID book the appt and yes, he's definitely all set to go
  6. It's hard enough to get a rental without pets but yes the more you have, generally the harder it is. Most realestate places will give the house to someone without pets rather than someone with them. If you have a pet resume and some good references, you might get lucky..
  7. Apparently she has him booked for desexing Wednesday morning :D
  8. He has been rehomed ALREADY He went to an ex breeder of Lhasa apso's (spelling?) hopefully he is in good hands. She wasn't too impressed regarding no more dogs until she has her own place, but in all honesty, I don't have to have her in my home, let alone a menagery of pets that aren't even mine.. One large Rotti is quite enough
  9. No, she never had his hearing checked. And yes he is entire, I have lost count how many times I have recommended desexing him, why anyone would want an entire male unless he's for breeding is beyond me.. She called me tonight and said she wants to rehome him and get another Rotti pup.. Well, whatever, just not in my house. God help her if she stuffs the next one up.
  10. Wow, 17 years old. Grand age, safe journey to the bridge old girl. Thinking of you Gayle, such a hard time to go through. I went through it myself not too long ago. Do you happen to have a photo you could share of this delightful old girl?
  11. After reading the comments I now agree that it most likely is down to her not training him properly and yes she does yell at him an awful lot. Unfortunately I am going to tell her this dog is not welcome in my home, not only because I can't stand him but due to the constant yelling and carrying on that goes on. I am expecting my own puppy on the 21st of this month and that's not the kind of thing I want him surrounded by. I 100% agree he would be better off in a new home with an experienced owner who can work with his issues/fears. My head must have been in the sand to be blaming the dog for his actions, I'm glad I posted this thread and thank you all for the replies. And yes she did have her Rotti from a puppy, 9 weeks old.
  12. Okay, here's my dilemma. My sister in law just had a bad break up and needs a place to stay and the only people that have room for her in their home, is us. Only problem is, she owns one of the biggest pain in the ass dogs I have EVER known.. a 7 month old shih tzu. This dog knows no commands apart from sit He pees in the house Eats the cat food Barks uncontrolably when he's in a crate (he's been crate trained since 8 weeks old!!) Just in general, won't listen! She has tried to train this dog with everything she has, she has taken this dog to puppy school, had the dog do a private training course (very expensive one at that!) Now I don't want to have to tell her she can stay but the dog can't but it's seriously crossing my mind. All she ever does it yell at him, he can never do anything right. She also owns the most well behaved Rotti I have ever met. This is NOT down to lack of effort/training. Can someone shed some light? I can see her getting rid of him, give it a few months at most.
  13. Yes My sister in law has a 7 month old shih tzu and not only does he drive her crazy, he makes me thankful I don't own him. He is the biggest pain the ass you will ever come across, he is the dumbest dog alive to put it NICELY. Nothing ever sinks in, you can't teach this dog anything apart from sit He pees inside their house and he's 7 months old He eats the cat food no matter how many times he gets told off He is just completely thick! Believe it or not, she has had a pro trainer come to her home to help with this dog, he gave up after 4 days.. That tells you something. She also owns a Rotti who is perfectly trained and behaved. This dog is beyond help I refuse to have him in my house anymore. Just looking at him, gives me the shits
  14. My sister in law has a 7 month old male and he is apparently the most stupid dog she has ever owned. He apparently is a terrible learner, nothing and I mean NOTHING sinks in and he STILL pees on the floor inside, she has had him since an 8 week old puppy and yes, he is pedigree. Now generally I wouldn't believe someone saying the dog is stupid, I would usually blame it on lack of training or not asserting themself as pack leader however, this girl also owns one of the most beautifully well behaved and trained Rottweilers I have ever met. I'm going to give her benifit of the doubt on this one!
  15. I can't personally see how a Dog can be your companion if he lives outside all the time, unless of course the owner spends a great deal of time outside, training, gardening, entertaining, working etc. Otherwise I can't work it out. But that being said, if the Dog is well cared for and all his needs are met, then whatever floats your boat.
  16. My little fellow will be here next Friday!! So very excited
  17. Showdog - I am using Jet Pets and hiring a crate. Thanks for all the other information.
  18. I would have much prefered he be on the early morning plane however there is no convincing his breeder to wake that early. pewithers - The breeder asked me to organise the freight, I didn't think anything of it, didn't realise some breeders do it themselves. I'm going to request he gives our boy a little drink before his trip as readysetgo mentioned.
  19. Yes unfortunately it was either 12:05 or 4am and his breeder wasn't keen on the 4am flight!
  20. I just booked my puppies flight from Adelaide to Perth and have a question regarding what the bloke told me over the phone. He said tell the breeder not to feed him that morning and no water for 3 hours before the flight, I can understand not feeding him but I don't like the idea of him not having any water all morning (the flight is at 12:05) and then not having anything until he gets to Perth 2.5 hours later?! Is there any particular reason for the no water? I really don't like the sound of it. I'm sure it will be quite warm on the plane aswell.. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing but I have never done this before.
  21. I once rented a villa with a small courtyard with my apbt before he passed away. I had a "pet resume" and a reference from previous landlord. Found out the next day I got the house
  22. Hi... We are waiting on a purebred blue and white male American Staffy, we are extremely excited and can't wait for him to arrive in Perth from Adelaide in around 4 weeks time
  23. Thanks Persephone and Sandra.. I never thought of chicken frames but love the idea..They would certainly keep my mind at ease. His breeder hasn't fed him any bones as of yet, he feeds the puppies Advance Puppy Dry and Minced Chicken Frames.
