  1. Ive seen pups for sale in NSW pet shops with ANKC Mains registration papers....they have them on consignment so the pet shop never actually owns them.
  2. Could someone please PM me her contact details. I have friends out that way super keen to get into agility. Thanks :D
  3. Got the results back, and I clearly asked for Progressive Rod Cone Degeneration to be tested. The form's also had Aust Cattle Dog's as the breed. So, in the email it states 'No results available' for all of the dogs but instead have given me full DNA profiles.... I have to wait until tomorrow to find out whats happened.....sigh. Can anyone with experience in this comment on the above? I certainly didn't pay for a full DNA profile and no PRCD results!! Logically, how can you do a full DNA profile, but then miss some genes?
  4. Take a look at how the Aust. Cattle Dog Club of America keeps the divide to a minimum. I really like the fact that the dual purpose dogs are the ones put on a pedestal. ACDCA REGISTER OF MERIT Program Guidelines I. REQUIREMENTS FOR ROM TITLE: In order to be considered for a ROM award the applicant dog or bitch must have: A. Earned an AKC Breed Conformation Championship B. Earned an AKC Obedience Title of Companion Dog or higher. C. Earned one of the following herding titles: After September 1, 1995, all applicant dogs must have earned an AKC Herding Started Title or higher. Applicant dogs earning the following herding titles prior to September 1, 1995 are exempt from the AKC Started Title requirement: ACDCA QW or VQW, AKC Pre-Trial Tested Title or higher or ASCA Started Leg or higher on cattle. D. Produced offspring with an AKC Championship, AKC CD or higher, and one of the herding titles shown in item C. above. Qualifying offspring titles may be earned by one or more offspring. The dogs can earn additional points from any of the FCI or AKC sports. From what I can gather a ROM means much more than just a show title. OK, the system doesn't force people to take their dogs herding but it sure rewards those who do. Each year the dogs with the highest points are the celebrated ones, with the top 100 published. Perhaps the ANKC (or state affiliates) could install a similar points system so the dogs put on a pedestal are the ROM dogs, not the Gr Ch dogs. Don't force people to take their dogs herding/earthdog/retrieving etc but reward those who do.
  5. I think that is from the thoughts that the red gene makes for fiery individuals. I've heard people argue this by suggesting the 'fiery red headed woman, the fiery chestnut horse' etc are anecdotal evidence of this.
  6. Sorry, could you clarify....."highlight that there are working derivatives in many breeds"? In the UK and US for example, field and show labradors SPLIT many many years ago. There was not been a DUAL (show/bench - field) champion for decades. That's what I meant, that the show lab's that people see are not the only labs available. I first read about field labs in the book Marley & Me, other than that I would have assumed that the labs I see at shows were the only style of lab available. I use the word 'derivative' as I doubt the field labs are recognised as a seperate breed. Granted, the field lab was the original lab :)
  7. It's good to do the treatment when you start seeing the symptoms of arthritis. It's easier to repair 50% damage then it is to repair 90% damage. Dogs with say 90% damage still get good responses, however it makes sense to not wait until the joint degeneration is high.
  8. I watched footage of the black lab. Lovely dog. Hopefully a field lab winning the obedience will highlight that there are working derivatives in many breeds.
  9. Ahhhhh! ok.....I was watching the shortlist.....der Thanks!
  10. Watching the OES win the Pastoral there was no ACD, and none in 2011 either? Are dogs knocked out before group? And don't say it didn't pass the hearing test! (sorry, bad joke)
  11. Is there any footage of the obedience? All I can find is an interview with the Dog winner
  12. Ive long thought that before a dog is awarded the Aust Ch title it should have to demonstrate that its temperament (and/or purpose bred for) fits the breed standard. You've made me now add health testing to that thought.
  13. Thanks for that :) Any vet or a vet authorized by ASAP Labs? I assume its just so they can check the microchip number?
  14. A dog I was entered to show at Sydney Royal just did her cruciate . When I rang RAS I was told to bring a vet certificate on the day or pay $40 withdrawal fee. Penalties only applied if no vet certificate presented or $40 paid.
  15. Shouldn't the RUBOB get a chance to go up for Group?
  16. A bit of both. Fair enough if the features could only be seen with a scope, but if they were obvious to the naked eye then its a criticism. If they were scapegoats so Crufts could show a new attitude then I feel sorry for them. Like others said, would be interesting to see why they were failed.
  17. The judges cant identify exaggerated features.....?
  18. Thanks Christina! Seems there are a few more options available. Have to work out if the shipping makes it the same cost as ASAP Labs
  19. Ive emailed ASAP Labs asking them to clarify it. Their website says they do PRCD for my breed, just need to know if its a formal certificate. I looked on the ASAP Labs website and they have no tests yet either for Tollers. EDIT: At over 1/3 cheaper its worth investigating. Does anyone know if DogsNSW only accepts Optigen (ie GTG Labs) results? EDITED AGAIN!: If genetic testing isn't compulsory for my breed then the DogsNSW acceptance of the results is irrelevant, I'm guessing
  20. I was about to order the ASAP Labs PRA test kit for my dogs, however someone mentioned that the results are not certified. GTG Labs (Animal Network), they said, are the only ones who can make the results a legal document. Can anyone shed some light on this? ASAP Labs are considerably cheaper.
  21. I've found my perfect dog. Now I want to make it even more perfect for my needs. Shopping in Europe for semen is tiring though
  22. Whole oats or rolled oats? The rolled ones don't work anywhere near as well as the whole.
  23. Such a shame, when you see other people in this thread who are really happy. Regenerative medicine is something new, and some people are just resistant. I will say that the 'risk of infection' is a weak argument. Even when I was doing the fat harvest method we would use some Gentamicin to cover for anything. The cultured cells come in sealed containers direct from thawing at Monash Uni. Some vets like to put the dogs on a course of AB's (often clav) and that's fine, doesn't impact on the cells. With more and more people talking about it then the percentage of vets using them will grow.
  24. Or add a tablespoon of whole soaked oats to the raw. Indigestible so they have to make their way back out whole. Cheap bulk ;)
