  2. Aust Cattle Dogs - Blue Fuzz :D A 10 month old girl and a 10 week old boy.
  3. Nordenstamm Lol, well, that should silence the questions on if the dog is coming from a decent kennel!
  4. Geez SK, are you getting a mixture of nervousness and excitement!? Maybe you should make a scrapbook now of what your house looked like prior to Cyclone Miss Mali! One day you can then look back with distant but fond memories. ;)
  5. Lots of great ideas. I have ACD's and I have changed to a raw diet. They seem more satiated, and as some of their diet comes in the form of bones, a good portion of the day is spent eating, chewing and munching! I've even managed to replant my flower pots and so far they have remained untouched (that's with two dogs under 12 months of age ) If I was doing drive training with food then maybe a satiated dog isn't ideal, but they still go bonkers for cheese and the like.
  6. We have no more trials in NSW for the year Not that I've done any training since getting her PT The pup is going to have his first look at sheep next weekend, can't wait to see if he is as switched on as the girl was at the same age.
  7. Nothing stopping other registries from issuing papers. Really, our ANKC papers are only as strong as the ANKC registry is. If the ANKC becomes just another registry then the meaning of our dogs pedigree papers will soon become weakened. Am I blind to what the ANKC is doing to market and promote our breeds, or is it really as vague as it seems? Any dog can have a pedigree as long as dogs are given some sort of registration, and that is recorded on a family tree. As far as the ANKC is concerned a 'Moodle' is just the same as a South African Boerbel if documentation is kept.
  8. Thumbs up for David Lidbetter too. Often overlooked 'cause he's not part of a SASH or ARH establishment. He is a very talented vet.
  9. One of the major supermarket brands of wormer is made under contract at one of the bigger pharma companies, and the same ingredients are used for both a flagship product and the supermarket brand. Rest assured, if the mg dosage, and active ingredients are the same as a well know brand then it would have done the job. Amazing how much the marketing dollar drives up the price of a product! It's getting to learn the different active ingredients, and which ones do giardia, hydatids etc Sorry to hear about the puppy, and I'm sure your kicking yourself for not intervening earlier. Poor little pup. I'd risk losing my job if one of my dogs were sick.

  11. Why are you all so defensive? There are good and bad lines for temperament in many breeds. Granted, Sandgrubber probably picked the most strongly worded article. If a purchaser is warned to check carefully for the temperament of the line before committing to a puppy then that is great advice. Whether or not it's all a fallacy, there appears to be enough anecdotal evidence worldwide that there are lines of cockers which can have suspect temps. Why not share with WhiskedAway the bloodlines of the cockers who you know have great temps. I notice that some of the UK Cocker Clubs even have Temperament Advisory Committees. That's great, if there might be a problem, then get it sorted. Complete denial and using just personal experience is not credible. All the more reason to buy from reputable breeders.
  12. Thanks, I will start on the Manuka tonight but I could only find +16. That is what I was after, something that won't do him any harm but I can try and be proactive. I can get Linctol, but I will wait to see if the cough develops. The guy just walked in off the street, no appointment. There was no one on reception for a short while. I went and waited outside, the guy gave me such filthy look. Sigh.
  13. Argh! At the vets for my pups 2nd vaccination, in the waiting room with mine on my lap and another very large pup comes in, unruly, jumping everywhere with an owner in zero control. That's not my issue though The pup bounds up to me and then unloads his chest contents right near us. Yep, he's at the vet with kennel cough. Anyone know of anything I can do to lessen the chances of the virus taking over my pups system? He got the KC vaccine today. I'm being precious but I swear I could see particles floating through the air.
  14. I don't, sorry How was the show? I forgot to get my entries in on time. Do you know who did well in the ACD's?
  15. There have been none reported. The only issue that Im aware of has been when a particular vet was worried about getting into the joint and kept reintroducing the same needle 5 times into the one joint. I was told it was a poorly prepped leg too. So that's a user error, and unrelated to the safety of the cells. The dog ended up with an infection which required antibiotics.
  16. :D Prof Richard Boyd is an amazing scientist. We have made the cells even cheaper now, so the cost can be even lower than the $1500 - $3000, obviously depending on investigative work your vet might have already performed (ie x rays). The more expensive cells are the ones given by IV, as a much larger volume is required, but treating 2 joints by injecting into the joint is becoming much more affordable. Any vet in Australia can order the cells If anyone wants more info look here http://www.australianstemcells.com.au/ If a vet isn't interested in using stem cells, just contact us and we can tell you who is using them, particularly in Sydney and Melbourne. Sorry if I jump on these threads, but I want the people who are curious to know where they can get information and treatments. This technology is so exciting, and will be commonplace over the next few years, both with humans and animals.
  17. Not silly. Once she really feels secure in her crate, she should sleep in it where ever it is. If being close to you helps with that security then I'd have her close to you for awhile. This might seem mean, but I put my pup in his crate and take my older one for a walk. I'm sure he was vocal the first time, but he is always asleep when we get back.
  18. Does she spend anytime in her crate during the day? She needs to learn to settle in the crate. I'd also try not to turn any lights on, and dont talk to her when you take her to pee. She wakes, pee's then goes back to sleep with no real interaction. I'd let her sleep close to you. Maybe she wakes in the night and feels lonely?
  19. Try the Petcare2000 stores. They do roo mince and roo chunks. They prepare it at the Taren Point and the Wetherill Park stores. I pay around $21-$22 for 5kg. Also here http://www.paringapetfoods.com.au/fresh_meat they do home delivery
  20. If it was my puppy, I'd already have it out and about. Just pick areas where dogs don't tend to congregate. My new pup is 10 weeks tomorrow. So far he has been for car rides to the local cafe, swimming in Botany Bay, out to watch my other dogs obedience lesson (on private land) and an afternoon at the mother in laws. He has also come to work with me. Small risk but with huge gains, getting them out young. Just be smart about it Post a photo :D
  21. Try here http://www.sydneypetfoods.com.au/production.asp They do home delivery, and package all the meat for Petbarn, Australia wide, so the turn over is high. I've been in the mincing rooms, and it's pretty much raw meat in the mincer, then straight into cryovac packs. Not the cheapest, but certainly quality guaranteed. They also do discounts for people with ABN's or breeders prefixes. If you don't want to buy their 1kg cryovac packs call them and ask to buy in more bulk. The other place that I have been happy with is Petcare2000 at Caringbah. $21 for 5kg of roo, minced onsite. $5 for 2kg of chicken wings, frozen.
  22. Monash Uni have a vet who looks out for when a suitable dog comes in for a spey, the owners are offered to have the spey done for free if they allow about 1/3 specimen jar of fat to be removed. One donation of fat grows enough cells for, on average, 2000 single doses. A single dose is equivalent to one joint being treated. Two vets have been trialling, one in NSW and one in Victoria. More so to see what dosages (ie number of cells) work for each size dog etc. We are partnered with Vet Stem in the US, they have completed the most trials. The difficult thing has been that stem cells have always been borne from universities and scientific research. So the money hasn't been there to pour into trials. Unlike pharmaceutical companies where satisfying the consumer, and generating sales, is the main goal. Still, trials are very important no doubt. Here is one of our partner's trials http://www.vet-stem.com/images/7605-0019-001%20Double%20Blinded%20Study%20-%20Canine.pdf That is for autogolous treatment however, as allogeneic is the more recent development. We can still culture your own dogs cells too. So if the thought of an allogeneic transplant is not something you want, we can take you own dogs fat, and expand it in culture. Thus returning many millions of mesenchymal stem cells into each joint, and cryofreezing the rest. Some of our scientists are working with renal specialists to work towards repairing damaged kidneys, and our two trial vets are getting promising results from the first few congestive heart failure treatments done.
  23. I was previously working with stem cells, assisting vets with harvesting fat, and processing in the laboratory. I have now moved on to the most scientifically advanced stem cells. A brief overview of whats available now, but I will write up some more info if people are interested. I now work for Monash Uni, and we have Allogeneic stem cells available. These are pure stem cells, taken from a donor and grown in culture in the laboratory. The benefits over the old method of harvesting fat are- No need to cut and scar your dog No need for full anesthesias Pure mesenchymal stem cells, not stromal vascular fraction (which is what is isolated when taking your own dogs fat, which has some stem cells) The original fat is donated by a fully health tested dog under the age of 12months. The cells are younger and work more effectively. An old dog has old stem cells. and lastly the price is much more affordable, for example a dog under 20kg getting 2 hips treated will be around $1000 to the owner. Have a look at our website www.australianstemcells.com.au Feel free to ask any questions. If anyone is curious about this in the human world, look around on this website www.mesoblast.com
  24. I have a 9 month old and a 9 week old. They get play time together in the backyard when I'm home for small durations, at night they lay inside on their beds, or chewing toys. The pup comes out and about with me in the car, cafes on weekends etc etc. Older one is left in backyard, copes fine. Sometimes I have one inside, one outside, maybe pup crated randomly in another room while I train older one. When I do go out and he doesn't come, he is left in a room in the house. They rumble and play and have a great time, but the moment I look like I'm going to do something they both focus on me. So, essentially if nothing is on offer from me then they will play. Like what TSD does, I started randomly calling them if they were interacting and rewarding when they came. I just have to get off the lounge now and all eyes are on me 'is she going to get treats, is the tug going to appear'. I've noticed the older dog is trying harder to please me too, which is great! The older dog might have the better rumble moves, but I am the master of the fridge door
