  1. I have a new Man... I had the money in my account from the tax man and a burning desire for a tripod. I decided not to muck around and went with the best. I have to say that it is a very nice piece of tripod and I am definitely in love. I wanted to sleep with in my bed last night but compromised with leaving it set up beside my bed. ;) ahhh I love photography equipment.
  2. I'm in the market for something similar so interested to hear comments. I don't care so much about size - just about quality. I seem to be looking the market of about $1200 - is that about right?
  3. He makes me. Hynotises me with the eyes. Love Chester picture. You do a great job with his photos.
  4. I cannot tell you the pains I went through to achieve this very still picture of my very active pointer laying still for a 20 second exposure. It was dark and cold and late at night (past 1.30) before this dog was so tired that he would accept me sitting there with a camera in front of his crate with the door open. Ahhh... but look at my boy. He is so handsome it breaks my heart.
  5. Awesome Terra!! I love the orb ones. You have really good ideas in your head!
  6. Nickojoy - KC is NOT A chesty cough. It's a croupy throaty cough (the seal bark sound). If their lungs aren't clear and they are hacking up green stuff then it's a secondary infection. Dogs with KC gag up clear/pink frothy stuff from their throat and upper airway. I am never an advocate for stopping the process of what is natural and I agree that lung secretions shouldn't be suppressed, but in this case the secretions are not from the lung. The cough is from airway irritation.
  7. I've had one dog get a raw bone stuck in her throat and another dog has had a stick wedged across his teeth a few times. I don't allow my dogs to eat bones when I'm not here. If I am going out and there are unfinished bones they are put up until later. The bone that got stuck was a lamb shank. I avoid them now as I get worried about them splintering too.
  8. That is simply not true. Dogs in very good health can catch mild viruses and frequently do. Just like healthy, vigorous human beings catch a cold from time to time. It's difficult to "eliminate" kennel cough because dogs usually catch it from making close facial contact with other dogs, mostly before they exhibit symptoms. The virus tends to be passed around in areas where many dogs gather or are housed - hence the name. Having kennel cough doesn't mean that you're kennels aren't clean. Certainly, secretions which are coughed onto the cement should be dealt with but besides that, using F10 and bleach is next to useless. This isn't parvo we're talking about!
  9. Nice cigarette tins Ripley! R n A - that fruit one is perfect. I think that's really the effect that we're supposed to be trying to achieve there - like it's been painted. Awesome!! And Ashanali thought we'd hate this challenge!! It's only the 6th and we're getting better every day! CARN GIRL!!! BRING ON THE NEXT ONE!!
  10. Active ingredient 'Pholcodene'. It's a cough suppressant.
  11. Disinfecting things won't help dogs spreading an virus that's passed on by droplet infection. It would be no more effective than disinfecting the seats on a train full of flu-laden commuters. I wouldn't even bother seperating them - they will have already been in contact with it during the incubation period. Unless my dogs show signs of secondary infection I wouldn't even take them to the vet with KC. I've used homeopathic drosera and benadryl. I've been through several cases of KC amongst my dogs and rescue dogs and had good results in keeping them reasonably comfortable. It's a self limiting virus, just like the common cold. Like Erny said - keep them quiet as they will cough more when excited or running around. They will probably have a cough reaction that goes on for a few weeks that you'll see when they pull on their lead. That can take some time to clear up but isn't serious.
  12. I was seriously considering giving the pointer some valium earlier. He'd be so beautiful to paint but I can't get the friggin door of his crate open without him jumping up and wanting to play!!
  13. I started to paint my fish with light because he usually just goes to sleep at night but the torch bothered him so I just ended up turning the lights on and getting a good close up of him This is Enrique.
  14. OMG I wish my f*cking dogs would stay STILL!!! I've got my camera just for the night and nobody will cooperate and go to bloody sleep. I got one dodgy picture of Poppy.
  15. What a lovely looking dog! She's a bitch I mean a girl one.
  16. Oh I absolutely love this one, I think you've definitely achieved a ghostly effect. The slight movement in it is really eery. Really awesome job! OMG I think your ghost plans on getting pissed!!
  17. I will comment from the point of view of somebody who has some few years labrador experience (owning, showing, breeding, rescue) and is new to owning a pointer. I've been the proud owner of a pointer since November last year and the things that have stood out to me with him (which seem to be typical for the breed) is that a) He doesn't cope well if I'm angry with him - not quite as resilient as labradors. Much more cautious in approaching things/people/dogs which is refreshing!! He doesn't run up to people and bowl them over. b) he eats a small sh*tload of food and still has ribs showing - for anyone considering a pointer, be prepared because it can be more expensive than you'd expect. c) His loving temperament is to die for. As soon as I touch his head this beautiful calmness comes over him. He never seems to tire of being patted and will spend the whole time staring at me adoringly. He's very snuggly and will rest his forehead against me while I scratch his chest. d) He is quite trainable but still excitable. At ten months I am now seeing an inkling of maturity which is really nice. He was doing really well at obedience as a pup but we're having a break at the moment due to other committments. e) My vet and vet chiro have both made comments about the very low levels of health problems that pointers seem to encounter. f) Pointers seem to like digging big holes. I'm lucky in that mine only digs in pot plants (the plants are long dead). g) I am totally in love with this dog. h) SELF COLOURS ARE OKAY AND ACCEPTABLE WITHIN THE STANDARD (see above standard regarding colours). Not only that, they are beautiful and handsome. This is what a self/solid coloured orange pointer looks like.
  18. And not painting with light, but playing with light. Light shining through the bottle to illuminate the label.
  19. I got my camera back for the weekend!! OHs is going to be another two weeks away - $200 labour to replace a $4 part. Anyway... a little wire bike. Exposure 5, f/7.1 iso 400.
  20. Cheers. How nice that they send a certificate to let the breeder know. I never knew they did that.
  21. I just received a certificate for a dog that I bred from another state acknowledging me as the owner of the dog with "ET" on its name. Does this mean the dog achieved an title in endurance?
