  1. "Not long ago, for example, it was difficult to pulverize poultry cheaply; now hot-dog manufacturers enthusiastically chicken out, cramming up to 15% of their sausages with bird parts. Poultry is one of the more appetizing ingredients. Federal law allows hot dogs to contain such animal features as esophagi, ears, lips and snouts. In the words of Robert Benchley: "Ain't it offal?" And even these ingredients do not exhaust the bad news. Hot dogs are brimming with additives, including sodium nitrite, sodium acid pyrophosphate and glucona delta lactone. Without such chemicals, the hot dog would lose its pink blush and turn the color of unwashed sneakers. The wiener may also contain "binders," like dried milk, cereal or starchy vegetable flour. According to Consumers Union, there can also be occasional insect parts and rodent hairs. 2. They are full of preservative and colour. I wouldn't feed them as a regular treat when BBQ chicken is usually just as effective for most dogs and doesn't give them the same nasty chemicals. Seriously - hotdogs are so far away from being food that I'm surprised the FDA allow them. BBQ Chicken or make your own liver treats and freeze them.
  3. If you open the DOL breed pages the list is there. Seriously if you need to check the list to find out if someone is a shonk or not you haven't researched fully enough. I appreciate it if this is the beginning of your research but be extremely careful.
  4. My Dad being stupid again. Because children can always get revenge for all those embarrassing moments that parents cause during the teenage years.
  5. I am going away for a few weeks so shall post a few from the weekend to tide me over. I got my family into the studio to do some photos... I should have guessed that they weren't going to act normal. They are so embarrassing. My parents being stoopid. Dad is wearing the 3D glasses from when we went to see the movie "Up!"
  6. Thanks Pandii - he's a special boy for sure!
  7. I asked him if he'd been a good boy and he winked.
  8. This is a picture of Guido who I went to visit the other day. He is a lab I bred 3 years ago. His eyes are out of focus but his nose is beautifully in focus... I tend to do that a lot!
  9. That's the best looking photo of me I've ever seen. :) ;) I reckon you should frame this one and put it straight into the pool room. I just showed OH and his first response was "LOOKS LIKE ME!!" ROFLMAO. I can't stop laughing.
  10. That's the best looking photo of me I've ever seen. :D
  11. Asking her Mum if she can go up the stairs.
  12. This is one I took last month. Cheating a bit but it was quite recent. Camera: Canon EOS 40D Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250) Aperture: f/6.3 Focal Length: 53 mm ISO Speed: 250 Exposure Bias: 0 EV Flash: Off, Did not fire
  13. RIP little handsome man.
  14. Leeshy is usually very strict with not posting it until the first day of the month. She's out tarting around in a strapless dress tonight so we might have to wait until tomorrow.
  15. Sorry to hear that your little dog is having problems. I would think very seriously about major surgery on a dog that age, particularly if he is essentially a well dog. I would seek a second opinion from a vet that you trust.
  16. The difference in smell between dogs can be put down to lots of things including their diet. I know other dogs of the same colour in the breed who smell differently - most of the time to me they are quite offensive in a doggy way and are fed on a lot of dry food. My dogs who are fed mostly raw don't smell very doggy. Obviously if you own two dogs who smell different who are on the same diet then there are other things contributing. Regarding the corn chip feet - no, it's not just us and it's not just labs. It's a dog thing. (and a bit of a cat thing too ;))
  17. No, I think there are two of us now.
  18. Very glad to hear that you had a reasonably positive result. Dr Mitchell is unbelievably good but unfortunately some breeders aren't interested in following his recommendations regarding breeding direct relatives of dogs with these types of inheritable joint problems. He recommends that no other pups from the same litter are bred from because to do so is "propogating ED" (in his words). Not only is his very good at his job, he is an extremely good looking man. Wishing the best for Havoc's recovery.
  19. I'm not in the habit of smelling dogs feet, so I'll take your word for that one. You should test my theory sometime. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Lily's name WAS Dorito when she was a wee pup. Can't be sure though, I'd have to check my records.
  20. Black labradors smell different to Orange Pointers. But their feet all smell like Doritos.
