  1. Kendall I have a cruiser water bowl too - was given it free as a promotion. It's a fantastic bowl for the crate.. can't chew it, can't spill it! I would say 1) Dog crates 2) Cuz Balls 3) Huga's dog collars.
  2. I thought every dog knew how to swim instinctively until I got Dash. A few DOLers got to witness his vertical "OMG I'm drowning" episodes at the beach the other day. It happens every time he gets out of his depth. Imagine the buoyancy of a vertical pointer... My labs just got in and swam, like every other dog/rescue etc that I've had. I have one lab that loves swimming and one that loves water but doesn't like being out of her depth. She knows how to though.
  3. I turn mine off in the room where the dogs are at night. It's on until they go to bed though. Dash gets cold and shivers easily when it's on. The labs lay spread out on the tiles so they can keep cool that way if they need to. I often bring them into the air conditioning for a "kindy nap" in the middle of the day when it's hot.
  4. Noooooooooooooooooooo, I do not want a pointer. I do NOT want a pointer. Aww, damn he's cute. Yes you dooooo!!! I've never had a dog make so much eye contact (when there are no distractions that is!) but he will sit with me for hours while I "pat" him and kiss him and he just stares into my eyes. Seriously having a pointer is more romantic than having a bloke. They eat about as much though. Cody stares at me until he falls asleep. I love that dog and I suspect if I was to anthromorphise, I could say he loves me too. Really I just think he knows he has no thumbs so he can´t prepare his own dinner and open the gate for walkies and drive the car to the lake and and and....

  6. His Dad is a solid black called Elvis. I prefer the orange... it's the bestest colour because they have beautiful dark eyes. Levi... almost right I could blame pregnancy but I really thought his name was Elvis. ;)
  7. Valley are Chessies darker as puppies? I have never seen one as dark as your pup (who looks liver). I've only seen the 'grass' colour. oh I just read the standard... any shade of brown.
  8. His Dad is a solid black called Elvis. :D I prefer the orange... it's the bestest colour because they have beautiful dark eyes.
  9. Here are some more. He's still a leggy youngster with more head development and body development to go. He's extremely handsome and beautifully natured though. He was bred by a DOL member called "Zurhaan" and she leased Ashanali's bitch, Sunni, for the mating. Solid pointers are not common in Australia but hell they should be! Hopefully they will become more popular with time.
  10. Is that a pointer?? It sure is. Solid orange Pointer. He's so beautiful! ;) Yes he is!! Never seen that lovely colour. Any better photos of him? I LOVE pointers :D have a hungarian and italian, would love another italian (bracco) and an english!!!! Lovely.xxx You'll be sorry you asked!! He is a very well photographed Pointer.
  11. You chew their muzzles? Hehehe just a bit of soft chomp! No teeth! They have very chubby cheeks perfect for chomping on!!! I draw the line at kissing their heads and ears. I would not put my mouth near a dogs mouth - they eat raw meat and lick their bums.
  12. Well it's difficult to tell from a still shot, until the "pattee" explained what she was doing. He actually doesn't mind what you do as long as you're touching his head. Patting is fine too. According to the dictionary "patting" includes stroking. at 1 (pt) v. pat·ted, pat·ting, pats v.tr. 1. a. To tap gently with the open hand or with something flat. b. To stroke lightly as a gesture of affection.
  13. Is that a pointer?? It sure is. Solid orange Pointer. He's so beautiful!
  14. Sounds like it was not the only purebred dog study that was done with flaws!
  15. My T bone is a bit ribby and tucked up. Part of it is that he is fairly "wired" and part of it is his build. People mostly comment that he's in lovely condition, some comment that he's too thin. He's pretty much ideal on that chart though and the vet raves about his condition. He's a healthy active boy. My Pointer is too thin but what can you do? He eats enormous amounts of food and still has hip bones and spine protruding. Damn the little bugger never stops moving. We've considered both sedating him full time or using a full body cast to get his weight up.
  16. He was loving whatever you were doing!! I just saw little Lottie in that picture peeking out! She's so cheeky!
  17. Yes that's the one! His face cracks me up every time I look at it! He's clearly being tortured.
  18. I have been prompted to post this picture of my Pointer from our DOL meet today. That's him with his head shoved between someone's hands... eyes closed in rapture. He always does that when he's irritated. Poor little bastard.
  19. So when is it time to get help? I thought the first signs were unproductive vomiting? (at which stage the stomach has twisted and if you could get a capsule down the problem wouldn't exist).
  20. Yep- that's what I've heard as well. It does work in the canine stomach, I presume, as it works in human stomachs- I know of it being used regularly to break down gas in a 'bloated' human stomach, which then impinges on other organs. When the simethicone does the job, gas is much easier to get rid of, and the pain and pressure is relieved quickly. We are talking about the difference between a stomach and a bowel. Simethicone is not used to make humans burp. It's used to make them fart.
  21. How do they know it stopped bloat? A dog with a swollen tummy is not 'bloat' or gastric torsion. How does De gas prevent gastric torsion, where the gases build up in the dog's stomach and it twists? You don't know it's happened until it twists and once it's twisted and the contents can't escape, how could you possibly get a capsule into their stomach?
  22. For me it's a dog that I have an amazing bond with. Something that goes beyond what a pet owner normally has with a dog and feels a bit more like a human relationship. My T bone is mine - he's absolutely nuts but I love that dog to bits and have a bond with him that I don't have with the others. He is so responsive to me and talks and sings like an idiot. I think part of our bond comes from the fact that he was SUCH a challenging puppy and we did a lot of obedience training and I had him on my own for the first 18 months without other dogs. I love my other dogs so much it hurts but if I had to give up two and keep one there would be no decision to be made. Not only can I not live without him, he can't seem to live without me.
  23. Mylanta is both an antacid and a gas medication. Degas is simethicone alone. Bloat happens in the stomach, not the bowel and I don't see how simethicone would work to prevent it. I'm happy to hear the theories though.
  24. It has an established blood supply running through it - it looks like it's been there for more than 48 hours.
  25. It's not a buried tick - you can see the capillaries running through it which makes me think it's not a sebaceous cyst either. I would definitely get it checked out as it could be a small skin cancer.
