Tips For Introducing A Dog To A New Baby!
blacklabrador replied to ~Aimee~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
If you plan to have a dog in the bed at night then plan not to have the baby sleeping there at all. Dogs and cosleeping babies do not go together. -
Can Dogs Recognise Different Breeds?
blacklabrador replied to mongo1's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would agree with the labs/goldies too. I think they play in the same boisterous way. It was always great to see either another lab or a goldie at the park when my two idiots were young because I knew they could get the kind of play they needed without upsetting the other dog (generally). I've noticed that my Pointer is also drawn to other labs at the dog park - probably because he's familiar with the way that they play - he speaks fluent Labradorian. -
I can only think of cons and no pros. I raised a kitten with a 6 month old pomeranian. They were best mates and used to play hilarious games! The kitten was also great with the big dogs - very relaxed around dogs. I'd have the dogs first so the cat never knows any different.

Don't people know a friggin Goldie when they see it? Like the girl who told me yesterday that her dog was a lab X retriever.

Do You Give Your Bitch Raspberry Tablets
blacklabrador replied to oakeydoak1's topic in Breeders Community
Am I the only one who thought this was about "giving your bitch raspberries?" As in making noises on their tummy? All I could think of was that if I was going to give any dog a raspberry it would be my bitch because it's a dangerous practice with a male dog. Then I opened the thread and got all disappointed when I saw the full title. ;) -
Love it... but it should be called "Levitation"
-
This is wonderful!
-
I need to have two "loves". My excuse is that I'm hormonal and mushy. :D This is also "Love" Probably a better representation because of the sense of feeling between a mother and a baby.
-
Love. :D

And that's what you get for not feeding a labrador as much food as they want. Eventual revenge for all the years of "starvation"

12 Yr Old Golden Retreiver Coughing Up Blood
blacklabrador replied to indigirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
RIP Reg -
Yep this was going to my suggestion when I read your criteria. I wouldn't get a Kerry Blue for the reasons mentioned above. Schnauzers are great dogs and much better looking than poodles too! :D :D (sorry but the narrow heads and faces on poodles just don't appeal to me).

Just bumping this to find out if you found a solution RubyStar?? Milford don't make cargo barriers for Tucsons.

12 Yr Old Golden Retreiver Coughing Up Blood
blacklabrador replied to indigirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gosh lucky you were onto it early! It's Warfarin so it stops their blood clotting. The doses are fairly low though and even rats and mice have to eat several doses of it before they are sick enough to die. Is he with you or at the vet? -
RIP big guy. My condolences to Serena and Cindy.

12 Yr Old Golden Retreiver Coughing Up Blood
blacklabrador replied to indigirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
If he had a tear in his stomach he'd be vomiting up blood rather than coughing. I've had dogs with Kennel Cough bringing up a bit of blood with sputum - just due to irritation of their throat. Hope it all goes well at the vet - let us know. -

One futon. It's raised so they love it. They know they aren't allowed on my lounge but they have their own. I just bought a new mattress for it for $60 as floor stock from Amart. I have a waterproof mattress protector and a fitted double sheet on it. Easy to wash. Pointer is still in a crate because he can't be trusted overnight but he takes day naps on it with the other dogs.

Things You Never Thought You Would Do Before
blacklabrador replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's a little disconcerting when it crumbles as it comes out tho' - sardines for dinner when that happens It's completely normal in a bone fed dog. You will KNOW if your dog is constipated by keeping an eye on them. A constipated dog walks around doing the poo walk for extended periods of time. If they squat and it comes out then they are fine. Which leads me to the "things I never thought I would do". My pointer had been doing the poo walk for over 30 mins one morning. I knew I couldn't go off to work and leave him as he was getting mildly distressed with the situation. So I went through my medicine cupboard and found a a microlax enema (small tube of medication administered per-rectum) and gave it to him. He was a bit surprised at the administration but pooed ten minutes later and everyone was happy again. It's been the only time I've seen my bone-fed dogs constipated and he had some cushion stuffing in his poop. -

Ok you got me there! I worry about the really hard crumbly poos! So I squeeze them and rate them from 1-5 with 5 being the hardest and if he poos a 4-5, its more pureed veg for dinner! Love. You need to get a job. -
The German Wirehaired Pointer looks very similar (actually I think it's a better looking dog). If you want that type of dog they are available in Australia. http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/commun...red-pointer.asp

Ollie's Weightloss Progress
blacklabrador replied to HugUrPup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Make sure he gets protein. His diet should consist mainly of meat. If you change him to a diet of mostly veges he may become ill. Lean raw meat and meaty bones should make up the majority of his diet with some veges added.
