Aww that is a beautiful photo Ripley!! Two gorgeous girls I am sure they will cherish that photo. Love the photos of the other birds too. Here is todays photo. My favourite subjects are obviously my animals. For so long I've wanted to be able to capture them properly as I know them at home and this really can't be done with a point and shoot camera. So here is a lovely photo of my extremely handsome pointer. Title: "The Golden Boy" -

Is it morning yet? There will be some bleeding from where the uterus has been removed and that will leak from her vagina. You can't put a wound dressing on a wound like that because it's internal. If it increases over night, or doesn't stop by morning as your vet recommends then give them a ring. -

Awwww. Pointa chops. -
You mean pollens rather than actual seeds?
-
I don't know if it's the seed part of the grass that causes allergies. Seeds certainly cause problems when they become embedded in flesh or eyes etc but I don't think they are the cause of generalised grass allergies.

I am interested in learning more about tracking and I would like to give my pointer pup the best start. What kind of things should I be doing with him as a 14 week old pup besides basic obedience? He is VERY food oriented (as keen as any lab pup I've ever had). I also have a 6 year old lab who will retrieve random items I hide for him after I've rubbed them on my skin and asked him to take them in his mouth for a second. He has a good drive for searching for a particular toy if I am throwing the "wrong" thing for the dogs to retreive. He will spend ten minutes searching and not partipating in the game until he finds the toy he wants me to throw. As he gets older his drive becomes more specific. Would be be a good candidate for tracking or would it be a waste of time? Where are the tracking clubs in Brisbane area?

Feeding Frequency Raw Feeders
blacklabrador replied to Tiggy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The liver is an organ of detoxification. Even if a person or a dog were to eat a purely organic diet and drink water that wasn't contaminated with chemicals, it still has to deal with the pollution in the air and environment. As it is dogs and people have to deal with the antibiotics and steriods in the meat, pesticides and insecticides and fertilisers in the garden, chlorine, fluoride and who knows what else in the drinking water... and that's just the start. When you feed your dog on the liver and kidneys of other mammals they have to deal with the toxins left over in those organs. That's the detoxifying efforts of a liver of a dog who is fed a mostly pure, raw diet. Imagine the work of the liver of a dog who eats manufactured food. Cooked food is much more difficult to digest and therefore there is more unused matter left over to deal with, then there is preservatives and the by products of grains which dogs are not built to digest. They ferment in the gut, cause irritation to the bowel wall and allow large particles of food into the blood stream causing allergies. They also lead to an overgrowth of yeasts. When DOESN'T the liver need to detoxify. It does - constantly. That's one of the reasons that mammals have a liver. ETA Just to help people understand - all the blood supply from the bowel goes straight to the liver for detoxification and purification. Wonderful way the body works! Any situation which is causing toxins in the bowel is dealt with by the liver to attempt to prevent the toxins affecting the whole body. The liver only has a certain capacity so when the liver is overloaded the whole body is affected (causing all sorts of problems). -
Feeding Frequency Raw Feeders
blacklabrador replied to Tiggy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed my adult dogs once a day and skip a day every couple of weeks. My rapidly growing pup is fed twice a day and I don't skip. I don't know many people who bother with feeding adults twice a day. Unless you're having difficulty keeping weight on a dog then it seems like a waste of time. -
Advance Vs Pedigree Advance
blacklabrador replied to Bec n Shad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Advance Vs Pedigree Advance? They are the same thing. Pedigree is a dog food and Pedigree Advance is a dog food. They are both made by the same company but one is the bottom of the bucket on quality and one is at the top. The company make three levels of food: Pedigree (yellow bags - what used to be known as Pal and most breeders wouldn't recommend it. It's sold in supermarkets) Optimum (silver bags - middle range pet food and top of the range of what is sold in supermarkets) Pedigree Advance (blue/purple/green bags - premium food sold in pet food stores but not supermarkets). The cheaper the food the more grain it contains as a filler. Dogs do not require grains as part of their diet and they can cause a lot of health problems. The more fillers the more poo the dog produces. -
Oh Griff I'm sorry to hear about Sinna. She was such a beautiful old girl.
