The gel out of an aloe vera plant is extremely bitter but very gentle on skin. -
Help! Fitting Dog.. Goodbye Sweet Daisy Girl
blacklabrador replied to openarms's topic in Rainbow Bridge
RIP Daisy .. all too sudden for you Openarms - what a shock. -
Yep I agree I buy minced chicken carcasses with nothing else added for 50c kg. You can't get better nutrition than that for the price.

Why Is He Such A Fussy Eater
blacklabrador replied to daccydog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The problem is Lilysmum, that you state your opinions as though they are fact. If you state them as your experience and opinions it will all be a lot more plausible. If you know a whole lot about natural diets and you want to educate others then I suggest that you do your research well so your information is accurate, not just based on your own individual dogs. -
What Gear Do You Have For Your Dogs?
blacklabrador replied to KitKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
All I need is a Sprenger check chain, a red dingo collar and a few leads from Crazy Clarkes for T bone. For Poppy I have a couple of parachute silk slip leads for the showring, a couple of flat nylon slip leads for show training and a flat collar for any instance that requires it. I use the Sprenger check chain for walking her too. Kirri has a PUPPIA dog harness for the car - it's soft neoprene and it's pink... all good for a hairless girly dog She gets walked on a nylon slip lead. -

Lillysmum of all the stuff you've posted that has to be the biggest load of bull I've read. I am a fan of raw diets... but a dog fed on kibble is going to register that it's full eventually. How silly to suggest that because they may eat quickly they never ever feel full. The time to register fullness is the same regardless of what they are eating, it's just that a bone may take longer to eat, therefore registering "full" might happen closer to the meal. I have two labradors, one will eat a piece of brisket and two chicken wings way faster than the other will eat a bowl of kibble. Where's your theory now?? -
LOL yes... lots of us feed this stuff to our dogs!

Vitamin C is a great immune builder too - as is the Marrow out of marrow bones (so I've heard).

RIP Miss Jenny.... What a princess she looked in that bed.

Answer is simple... just don't wear a bra

I agree - people are all too happy to try to blame everybody and anybody. The most contagious period of most viruses is the period before the symptoms make themselves known. Therefore the dog who spreads around the most KC at the show is the one who doesn't have symptoms yet. Most people are responsible - AND it is very difficult to hide a dog with KC at a dog show - the coughing is extreme and is exacerbated by pressure on the throat, (a collar or a lead) and by exertion. A dog with symptoms of KC would be very difficult to show as it would keep having to stop to hack and retch.
-
I think KC is just the common cold of dogs - it "does the rounds" constantly and is always about! Keep your dogs healthy with regular vitamin C to strengthen their immune system. I've had really good results with Homeopathic drops (I've posted about this before on here). ETA Ravensmyst a lot of dogs get viral kennel cough regardless of whether they've been vaccinated or not. The vaccination only covers certain strains - it doesn't cover them all.

Sorry to hear that Boxagirl ;) RIP Barkly

Sounds like my place  It also sounds like some formal obedience training is in order. Perhaps a regular trip to the offlead dog park to learn some pecking order also? I have to laugh these days when a puppy wears T bone out and then pesters him to keep playing!! I just laugh and say "it wasn't that long ago matie and you were TEN TIMES WORSE" ( just ask Kitkat ) ETA LOL at her sleeping on the glass table!!! It must be nice and cool for her! That's not naughty it's just common sense if you are a black dog and you live in EffenQ. Edited AGAIN to add.... she looks like she's from working lab lines - they tend to be more "nuts". Looooong legs She will calm down with time.
-
Cause as soon as they've finished eating out of those beautifully clean bowls they'll go outside and eat cat shyte :p (I do wash my dogs bowls BTW)

Thoughts are with you.

 ;) OMG you just made my day We will have to arrange a lab party soon!!

Obedience Training Brisbane Southside
blacklabrador replied to Levi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My parents train at Wagtails - with their last dog and their new puppy. It sounds very good and their little fella is doing very well!! (doing reliable off lead stays at 8 months old - he really is gonna be trialling material I think). -
Gawd you're an idiot Gotta

OK apparently hot chilli paste is the yummiest thing going. He's scoffed three teeny bits of mince lathered with chilli paste (Sambal Olek) and he is back out there looking for more. *there was more chilli paste than meat there*
-
How about some big MF mousetraps?? That'd learn 'im Tabasco soaked crusts coming up!!
-
He is great at food refusal. He knows he has to work for his bowl of food and he'll do his full repetoire of tricks in order to be allowed to eat. He licks plates after meals etc. It's not always about leaving actual unwrapped food. You'd think a carton of eggs would be safe!! He has stolen a couple of wrapped chocolate bars too (he won't do that again when I've got PMT!!) He will steal the cardboard box that has had food in it and chew it up. He's a NUTCASE for FOOD!!!
-
Yep - T bone can stand on his hind legs for ages. He is muscled like a greyhound! I do catch him in the act - constantly. As soon as I hear cutlery move on a plate etc I am right there giving him a dressing down. Unfortunately the prize of getting food from the bench seems to be worth it for him
-
T bone counter surfs my kitchen at every opportunity. He wouldn't dare do it while I am looking but he sneaks in them while I'm doing other stuff and grabs things off the bench. Last week I found him in the loungeroom with a carton of eggs  I am not happy with the level of hygiene in my kitchen when doggy paws are on the benches. I am also not happy with him helping himself to stuff when I'm not there (the pack principles of that I mean) AND the fact that he keeps stealing stuff that I need or want to use. He's a pretty smart dog - highly trainable and eager to please. He definitely has a sly streak though - as hard as I've tried to get inside his head. He doesn't have access to the kitchen when I'm not there. Only when I am in the house.
