  1. Nope - Boonie was already picked As is Beefy for the next one.
  2. We lucked out with Boonie as a pup - didn't chew a single thing, was toilet trained almost immediately, is great around people and is calm as anything - and has been from the get go. He was last in the litter - I'm assuming he wasn't the one running up to everyone and greeting them - a lazy bugger, but that made for a fairly easy pup.
  3. Yep we got ours from Pet Barn for camping - with a 6m runner. the corkscrew one.
  4. All good news - I did a bit of a drive around the area - no vet open yet and found a lady franticly looking for something - she was looking for her pup - pup and mum back together - god knows how the pup had negotiated the main roads because it was a fair distance away
  5. If you're searching for your puppy kelpie ive found her wandering near the dog park - looks max 4mths old no tag or collar - Im taking her to the nearest open vet - will post which one when I find it
  6. I think the whole thing with lab pups is TIME... they are everything everyone has said already in this thread. probably thinking so are most other pups? - BUT Labs are this x 10 and stay like it for a lot longer. I reckon the outcome is unrivalled - I love Labs, it's just whether you have the time available to get the outcome.
  7. I know a lot of people from Europe and they frown upon it - a lot were dismayed when I was giving Boon the chop. They see it as having a designer dog - physically changing the way a natural dog should be purely for your own convenience. I tried explaining the advantages in preventing cancers and such but nope couldn't get past the ol' playing god card.
  8. Toilet training is all hands on i reckon, crates or no crates. you pick up your pup take him outside every hour or two and praise the bejeezus out of him when he wees or poos. catch him in the act in the house - big booming NO - carry him out mid wee into the yard and make them finish outside. be prepared to do self enforced night trips - I was on the 1:00am and 3:00am trips. My wife reckons it's only fair considering she'll do the feeds when we have kids.
  9. the house we are in the gaps between the rooms are door size as its all open so unfortunatly i dont think that the child gate idea would work. sorry I'm reading that wrong - they are door size? that's perfect for a childs gate isn't it?
  10. If it's just for separation purposes just have child's gate separating them in another room. Boonie slept in this room with the gate up at night so got used to it being his alone area - we found this worked a treat and we could put him in 'his' room if we had visitors over. Much better option than shutting the doors on them as they don't get the 'shut in' feeling and can still see what's going on. I think it also helped that he got used to 'barriers' and then never really tested something if he saw it as a visual barrier - hence no mischeif.
  11. probably very dependant on the dog - but by crate training you eliminate that. Ours isn't crate trained and he's perfect travelling or at the vets - he's just a chilled dog though so does what he's told.
  12. yeah I only just heard this from a mate - they can go further in to a dam whilst still standing, wait for the dog to come to it and hold it under.
  13. How old is your pup Jarvis? Just ask people before you get to them - I find everyone is polite enough and will respect that you've asked - if for whatever reason they say no it's good focus training. btw in your excitement be careful not to over do it with the pup - 5mins walk for every month of age.
  14. I noticed this is the Adelaide site only - does this mean they wont send to Brissie?
  15. This is true pointers are rare-ish and pedigree puppies can range from $500-$1500 ($1500 being very rarely the case especially for pets) I would have thought labs were around the $1000 $1200 mark but then i dont think many or any pedigree dogs should go for less than around the $1000 mark these days because really in the grand scheme it isnt that exspensive and it can cost quite alot for a breeder to do what they do! Pointers are one breed I had in mind when I said that. Lovely dogs, but I don't think they are in the public eye enough so the average Joe doesn't really know much about Pointers! I think Aussie Shepherds were in the same boat a few years ago but their popularity has risen in recent years, as has the price tag (someone please correct me if I'm wrong ) Not sure on Aussies but I think you might be close to right! Pointers really need more publicity but its hard work! alot of people that hear the word pointer think German short haired not english so that also makes it hard and they are quite different in temperment! I met a couple of beautiful pointers down a dog park - I'd get one in an instant, but my wife is set on another lab or airedale.
  16. yep - price doesn't guarantee anything, at least with a healthy good scoring dog you have the right foundation.
  17. nah there's no problem with asking - when I was first looking for Boonie I had no idea.
  18. replies like these confuse me, I dont know if you both think it's too much or too little or if you just dont think the OP should've asked in the first place. Ivy obviously thinks it's too much for a Lab. Ruby is confused at that reply - as in why would you think that. the first reply could be taken as derogatory towards labs.
  19. it's more than I paid for Boonie but I don't think that is extortionate.
  20. Our boy is an inside dog - he gets taken out for an hour before and after work - and we interact with him when home I just feel really bad leaving him for 8hrs a day while I'm at work, when I know he sleeps for most of it anyway. But.. in saying that i have noticed he is a lot calmer in our evening dog park session now that he has someone at home with him - so I think it does make a bit of a difference.
  21. that really is the crux of it for us looking to add as well.
  22. We are a solo pack - thought about adding, put it on the back burner. have since been looking after Boon's brother from another mother for over a week and are straight back on the lookout for a mate for Boon - he just loves another dog's company.
  23. Heard an almighty racket after taking Boonie & Jett to the dog park today. Both of them had pinned a scrub turkey that got into our back yard. Neither of them were biting it - just pinning it and playing with it. I ran down and told them to drop and they let it up and it escaped. I don't think that turkey will be planning on nesting in my yard this year.
  24. This was my pack for a week Still have two of them.
