  1. caught this last night - had Boston Terriers on there, I like the fact they promoted going to registered breeders and pointed that badly bred short snouted dogs can have respitory problems. Think they also had Basset Hounds on the show as well - I switched over during an ad break and forgot to go back to it.
  2. Took the back seats out of the Rav4 put down loads of newspaper and blankets and he slept the whole 3.5hrs home - got him out of the car and he went and did his business on the grass. Easiest dog ever to toilet train - cried for 15mins on his first night away from mum and that was it. We had him sleep with a hot water bottle and a ticking clock - stuff we'd read would make him think he was still with his warm litter and ticking hearts. Not sure if that actually was what helped but he was brilliant at adapting to a new home.
  3. Didn't even think of that - although I've got a feeling that most dogs are bi ;)
  4. I had my first taste of a Giant Schnauzer down the dog park a couple of weeks ago and he got on brilliantly with Boonie (Lab) - I would say there playing styles were perfectly matched - I was surprised about the robustness (is that a word?) of the GS.
  5. my idea would be - and I don't have photoshop or the like so will leave it to the creative. Have five silouhetted dogs in five different colours (full block out colour) above the name identipup and five cats for identikit
  6. In the spirit of fairness can you make that random.org thing pick Boonie next please ;)
  7. the last prize only had 47 people in it - not bad odds.
  8. This is true - I pay $49 a month for the middle plan for my lab - covered up to $14k a year with $100 excess and 100% cover.
  9. Hey Olivebaby, If I remember correctly you have a lab - as do I and we are on the 'middle' cover and pay $49 a month - which equates to $22.61 a fortnight - so my thought process would be that I'd be willing to pay the extra $6 a fortnigh (let's be honest - that's 1 beer in a pub - or a coffee) and not have to pay say $2,000 on a $10,000 vet bill. I wouldn't miss the $6 a fortnight - but I know I'd miss the $2,000.
  10. just had a quick read of the product disclosure again and xrays are covered and are classed as vetenary treatment - there is a clause that says they wont pay any claims on an injury that has had clinical signs that it was going to happen before you started the cover. I'm not sure whether your chiro telling you that you are in for some hip problems counts as clinical signs - I would assume it possibly would, if you chiro has noted it down on any file he has kept for your pup. If this is the case you will have to disclose it when applying - that way your monthly premium may be a little bit more each month but at least you're covered - i'd have a chat with your chiro first as if you pup is real young and it was basically just a word in your ear I probably wouldn't disclose it - then start going to another chiro - but I'm probably a bit dodgy like that. Another clause is that your dogs have to be vaccinated and have a yearly dental check up. hope this helps a little.
  11. We plumped for the standard plan - I just didn't see the need to go up to Premium as the only difference between it and standard is money if your dog dies due to illness (as in a refund of purchase price) last thing I'd care about if my dog died, and $4000 a year more - $18k instead of $14k - I'm hoping I won't need to ever use more than $14k a year on Boonie. We pay $49 a month and have a fixed excess of $100.00 for any claims. thought I'd better clarify - standard plan is the middle plan - the first plan is $100 excess plus a % of resulting fees - too much of a risk.
  12. I have it - we were told by every man and his dog to get it (see what I did there). We use Pet Plan Australia - it came highly recommended. Thankfully we haven't had to use it yet.
  13. So Boonie jumps up on to bed this morning and just starts chatting away to me - i grabbed my phone and recorded a bit - hopefully the attached works and you can hear mini chewy talking. http://www.mediafire.com/?k4t75se77iebmqk
  14. My dad always swore by the local produce for beds - maybe check out your local produce instead of pet stores.
  15. It does get to you huh? you did well to hold your tongue for as long as you did. Was at the park yesterday and this lady comes in with a toy breed - holding it btw, not walking it in - goes and sits on a bench with the dog on her lap, two dogs went up and had a sniff, neither jumped on her or encroached to much and she screamed and swore her head off at them - their owners came and took them away shaking their heads. So Boonie goes over to have a look - I recall him before he gets within 10m - and she's yelling at me - get your effing dog away from us, we aren't here to play. Instead of walking away shaking my head I let her know where to go. I had my dog under control, he came as soon as I called him and she rages. Why the hell was she in an offlead park anyway just sitting with him on her lap - there are benches outside the park.
  16. yeah but we wouldn't mind a bark or two to let us know someone's about - especially if we are in a different room to him and can't see his excited bolt to the deck.
  17. Boonie is the complete opposite - he's happy to see anyone turn up, people he's met plenty before, people he doesn't know. he doesn't bark or anything - we know someone is there because he'll bolt to the door/back deck with tail(should I say whole back half of him) wagging - couple of pats and he trots back to where he was sitting. Only time he's ever got territorial is if a scrub turkey has got in the back yard - but I think he was just hungry - oh and the time we were camping and some cows decided they wanted to wander into our area - that was the one and only time I've seen his hackles raise and a low low growl come out of him.
  18. yep it does i'm sure they do more than just chardonnay as well.
  19. Here it is - and the dog's name is Merlot
  20. There's a winery in Stanthorpe called Mountview Wines. They have the most beautiful GSD roaming the grounds - me and the wife love catching up with him every time we go there. He is as a puppy on one of there Ports if I remember correctly - called 'Mans Best Friend'
  21. It does sound like a website template being used by a not completely tech-savvy breeder. some people are on the lookout for things to be offended by.
  22. Me too - I was quite worried that the level of exercise we gave Boonie was going to be considered not enough. Seems it's fine. Although I do like the idea of another quick belt round the block at 10:30 just before bed. That may get added.
