  2. Sorry for your loss peibe. RIP Elle-belle
  3. So sorry for your loss Allerzeit. She was a beautiful 'nott-a-rott'. RIP beautiful Abby :D
  4. I'm not far from you Vickie nad I guess I would be HB, DB x 2 (Spencer my scared foster dog being one). I would love to have a go at running a trained dog ..... although I have no doubt I would confuse the poor dog!!
  5. Please add me to the list for next time Vickie. I didn't see this until now! I also have a jump I could bring along - purchased it from airdogs.com and I also ahve a 'tunnel' for small dogs which I purchased from the kids area at Ikea!!!
  6. Any luck Westielover? No interest so far!!
  7. Oh gosh Stormy - I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP beautiful Beau
  8. Spencer doesn't mind having a collar on (he's got a nice lupine one with trouts on it ) It's when you attach a lead to the collar that he flips out. I reckon I might be able to leave a lead clipped to the collar and let him drag it around for 10 mins a day. I still need to work on his 'rushing at dogs' behaviour! It's only in the last month or so that there has been a HUGE overall improvement. ps. I reckon you should probably remove the add for a while!! :D Many, many thanks for advertising him on your website Helen. I did get a few enquiries but denied them all!! I know what you mean BMP ..... the only thing is that if Spencer becomes a FF then no more foster dogs .... hubby won't tolerate any more dogs - although I can continue with westie rescue as they are far & few between .......decisions, decisions Perhaps I should adopt the hubby out ...... hmmmm, might pop him up onto petrescue and see what happens!! :p Awww my gawwwd Mrs D ..... maybe we are voice twins I dunno, maybe - all I know is everytime I watch that video (I've watched it about 6 times now) I keep thinking "Gawd, that sounds like me!!!!" Couldn't stop laughing ..... wonder if we laugh the same too!!! :D
  9. Thanks Freckles I find the harness works well with Spencer - he does wear a collar sometimes - but attaching a lead to the collar stresses him out - I haven't done it for a while - so I might try again to see how he reacts now. He he .... you know me well Gusgem .... can't stay away from those pet supply stores!! The boys are doing great - Spencer is keeping them young & fit!!! Thanks jbbb Awww my gawwwd Mrs D ..... maybe we are voice twins Thanks poocow ..... not sure if I am ready to give him up ..... he's been my longest foster and a bit special too He really has blossomed hey! I don't thinks he's quite ready yet .....for more reasons than one!! He's a French Brittany - busted him out of Hawkesbury Pound in Sydney back in August last year. I read here that French Brittany's are a seperate breed to American Brittany's and the American kennel club doesn't allow French Brittany's to be shown because they have dark noses instead of red noses. Anyway - i am not a breeder so I'll stop raving now - but's it very interesting reading about the French Brittany's. They are a gun dog. I would love to get Spencer into agility. I have just purchased a jump from 'airdogs.com.au' and will start familiarising Spencer with it when it arrives. Hopefully he will take to agility at some point in the future. He would be great at it as he is so fast & agile!
  10. I have a few helpers too!!! I can't remember the last time I had a whole ice cream or yoghurt to myself!!! Actually - they like my mother-in laws greek rice pudding too!!!! ;) :D
  11. I'm so proud of Spencer ..... 5 months down the track and he is pretty good off lead! Spencer recall
  12. Oh my gosh - reading that gave me an awful, awful feeling in my stomach ...... RIP Jakey
  13. RIP Bess Hugs to you and Mr Rozzie Lovely Bess would have no doubt had a lovely time at Mudgee Pooch Haven during the time she was there. There is no better place on earth where Bess could have fallen asleep forever.
  14. I think you should all charge them more when their dogs come in matted ..... perhaps next time they will make sure that the dog comes in in a better state!
  15. Me too Mav! I'm proud to say that my groomer enjoys grooming my boys because they are always clean & knott free when they go in for a groom and they are very well behaved on the grooming table. They even let you file their nails after they have been clipped!!! I honestly don't understand how people can allow their dogs to get matted and how they can look at their dogs and think that all is well!!! I seriously don't get it. I feel bad like Mav if my boys get matts in their arm pitts!!! Spring keeps me busy pulling burs out of their coat each afternoon after their walks!!!
  16. Jefe's owners - I currently have a little foster dog - terrier cross and he definately has the potential to be an escape artist. He can climb over baby gates/puppy pens & he has attempted to dog under the fence gate which has now blocked off - I beleive it's because of minor separation anxiety issues. However, he seems to be getting used to the routine around here and is not making attempts to escape anymore. He had an operation last week and the vet told me he doesn't like to be confined in a cage - he worked out how to open the latch on the cage and proceeded to walk around the clinic!!! These little terriers can be intelligent little buggers!!! About 18 months ago I had a foster dog who was a BC x Beagle - gorgeous dog - lives on your side of Epping now - his previous family gave him up because he was a serious 'harry houdini' - used to escape all the time. He came from a family with 5 kids, was an only dog, was left in the yard all the time and hardly ever walked or played with. What is a dog to do???? He never escaped from here because he had canine company, he was taken out every day for a walk/play at the park and was allowed inside the house. I beleive boredom & seperation anxiety are probably the biggest reasons for escaping.
  17. Whatever you do - don't wash him to often westiefan as that can cause skin problems in the long run. Brush him once or twice a week and put some Johnson & Johnson Baby powder with cornstarch thru his coat and that will keep him whiter for longer. I tend to wash my westies in 'sapoderm' soap every second wash. One of my westies has oily skin and this soap works like a charm and keeps him whiter longer. (I know it's a human grade soap but I met a lady once who had an 18 yr old westie who had been bathed in sapoderm her whole life and never had a skin problem!!) eta: awwww katetk - love that pic of Harvey and his dirty paws!! You gotta luv westies for not wanting to stay white!!! :D
  18. I share exactly the same view as you Miranda! I agree that we are over vaccinating our dogs. Very, very interesting article Alprazolam! I recently read a story about a Goldren retreiver who died from receiving an annual vaccination in the UK magazine called 'Dogs Today. Go to this link and click on the article which starts with Golden Retrievers are bouncy, happy dogs, who fill their owners' lives with light. Spangler shone the same magic on his family - until he received a booster jab....... Very sad story! After reading the story - click on 'vaccine' in the menu across the top of the page and work your way thru the headings - very interesting reading!
  19. Thanks Miranda - totally understand you are not a vet and you do what you do by choice & past experience. I am hearing of more & more people doing what you do. I have been questioning the annual vaccs for the past couple of hears - everyone has different opinions. As for speaking to a vet - my vet (who is a legend IMHO) has told me that I should vaccinate my dogs because I take in rescue dogs - however, how many vets will say 'oh no - you don't need to vaccinate your dog' - imagine the possible law suits on badly given advice should the dog happen to die of parvo or distemper.
  20. I tend to only buy the BARF patties if I run out of time to make my own. I agree that the home made stuff is better! Katetk - yes I do remember wee old Jock - I still have a couple of pics of him on my computer at home!! I am soooo pleased he is a doing well! Thanks for letting me know!!!
  21. This describes the life of my dogs! They were titre tested about 3 years ago and the titres were high - so that's good I suppose! This proves what Miranda says is true! I don't want to vaccainte them anymore - it is now 18 months or so since their last vaccination. The only thing that worries me is that I do fostering and I do pull dogs directly out of the pound and bring them to my home. To date I have been lucky in that I haven't rescued a dog with parvo. I don't want to lose my dogs should they ever become exposed to a pound dog with parvo - that would break my heart! However, I don't want them to have compromised immune systems because of over vaccinating. I don't want to stop fostering either. I should set up some sort of proper quarratine area. However, if my dogs immune system is constantly challenged on a regular basis - does this mean that if my 'unvaccinated' dog comes into contact with a dog with parvo - my dogs immune system should be able to fight it off - right? or wrong?
  22. Awwww Openarms - that's so sad. I'm so sorry for your loss - but you know what - this past year has probably been the best year of her life thanks to you! You gave Daisy a loving home and she was happy. Even though she died in an unfortunate way - look back over the past 12 months and feel good knowing that you saved her life in another way.
