  1. still thinking of your little guy Poms. Hopefully being at home will help him recover. from the chi's and I
  2. I voted for all breeds larger than a kelpie and No I wouldn't purchase a large dog without having hips scored.
  3. any news Poms??? I hope your little bub pulls through
  4. This happened to my chihuahua Arnie. One vet said ''it's just what little dogs do" re holding leg up, another vet suggested LP but felt the patellas were fine. Xray showed old fracture at the femoral head and subsequent necrosis of the bone and stemmed blood flow to the rest of the leg. They don't make hip replacement parts small enough for chihuahuas so the femoral head was removed (which I have sitting in a jar). It is suspected the fracture happened just before he came home to live with us or very shortly after. He's not a show dog and had no potential for breeding but my research suggests it can be both hereditry or environmental. I personally wouldn't breed from a dog with this problem.
  5. Same here Schnauz - I thought Orijen smelt very rich and meaty. I have noticed when I opened my sample of Artemis Max, there was virtually no smell at all. I have one small bag of Orijen left. Not sure if I should chuck it or not now
  6. so could be safe to say meat meal is carcass? then what is by product? this shit is so confusing...no wonder so many go to barf try to do the right thing by our mates and we get shafted along the way i know human grade meat is missing the "good" bits the wild ancestors ate, bone, gibblets, cartliage but i cant find an inbetween i want meat and good shit...why so hard to find???? might start forumlating my own kibble
  7. Thanks for your hard work Anthony re: by products vs meat meal On my orijen packet it contains meal in the ingredients and on the front says no by-products what is the difference between meal and by-products? I don't want my dogs eating diseased chicken tumours but I'm happy with them eating bones, feet, innards etc I also got my sample of Artemix Maximal yesterday. The dogs love it, it is as dark as orijen but not much smell and seems a little dry but we will be giving that a go and see what happens.
  8. Iv been buying it online. Actually the guy from pookinuk just called me as I emailed them asking if they have any stock left and he said they only have some puppy giant breed and adult senior left so if anyone wants to get some senior or puppy , best be going here before they run out http://www.pookinuk.com.au/ they do $5 delivery australia wide
  9. my boys go mental over their Orijen, they have never been interested much in kibble before the poohs are better, no farts, their coats look great and the fat one is losing weight. I only have 400g left. So no one is selling orijen anymore?
  10. One of my boys has this problem. He was doing before he was desexed and has continued after being desexed. The whole penis comes out as well as the glands. It looks so painful for him but he loves it . The phrase "hung like a chihuahua" is not an insult in this house. He's a very big boy it almost touches the ground when he is standing up. Anyway, about 2 in 5 times it will get stuck out so I give him an hour to work it back himself otherwise I use the lube on him to put it back. I have no idea how the sheath stretches so much and then snaps back into shape so quickly afterwards. I've been thinking I should get the op done so it goes back in easier for him but my vet said if it hurt him, he wouldn't be doing it. But his teddy bear is very attractive People that have seen me put it back in for him think I'm a nutter but I don't see the point in paying the Emergency vet $300 for something I can quite easily do at home. The only difference between desexing and entire is when he was entire he would ejaculate all over the place. Desexed? no mess :D
  11. goodbye little roggie dog hugs for your mum
  12. my little boy Arnie had what we thought was LP and when he went in for his xray and operation, the vet found he actually had a fractured hip and his patellas were perfect. he probably did it jumping off the bed. he's a very jumpy dog. anyway, your vet should be able to tell by seeing if he can move or click the patella at all. if his patellas are ok, ask for an xray because he may have injured himself like my pup.
  13. I have toy breeds and ordered a small bag of orijen the other day. I am currently feeding Iams. Still waiting on it's arrival but I'm hoping the extra oils help their coat and the probiotics help the poohs. My older one is also overweight and after reading up on orijen and comparing other brands, I think this could be the one to help us out. High protein to fill him up rather than useless carbs in all the wheat and grains of other foods. My youngest has never had a runny shit in his life, always small dark stools but they turn white after a couple of days (when I am slack and don't pick up)I am told this is from high bone content in his diet?. Older boy has runny shits about 1 in 4 movements and very strange colours when solid (anything from black to bright yellow). He only farts about once a week but it is rancid the smell. So once my bag arrives, I will be able to judge it based on the reaction of one techincally "pooh healthy" and the other "occassional sloppy". I'm very excited
  14. 4 Paws and More at Keilor Park can courier it to you. I ordered it from pookinuk the other day.
  15. possibly E&D but its not really common knowledge outside dog world but if old mate down the road wanted to steal your dog to mate with his, I doubt he would know what an ear tattoo means since he's not the most responsible person in the world to begin with
  16. my boys were desexed at different clinics and both places tattooed without asking me boys are obvious but girls you cant tell by looking unless you can find the scar. some scars disappear too. i always thought the reason for the tatts was to inform RSPCA/poundies/rangers/vets that the dog is desexed before they go in for surgery. Thats why I assumed all vets do it no questions asked
  17. if you can buy it in Aus, you can import personal quantities from overseas as long as it is not an organic or dangerous substance or from a country there is a certain trade block on. if no one here can help you, just email customs to double check. they do get back to you very quickly (even when asking them if i can import yak milk and cheese from Tibet lol)
  18. one of mine does white poohs sometimes whereas the other has never done a whitey they are both on the same diet...any ideas? i hate white pooh i cant pick it up, it just crumbles everywher
  19. my dogs get a bone of some sort every day one boy is a fat plonker so he doesn't get lamb very often and it's a very lean piece with minimal meat and fat
  20. thanks guys we are moving to a new place in the next week from carpet to floorboards and no yard to medium concreted yard with garden so i will see how he goes in the new environment but there hasnt been any problems at all i was just curious as iv never seen it in a short coat breed
  21. just avoid cooked bones AML, as you would know, and keep an eye on her to see if she is a choking hazzard. if you think any bones have gotten too small, sharp or splinter in anyway, take them away because they can get lodged in that little throat or in her stomach. she does look jrt x more than chi x although there could be some chi in there but it doesnt matter anyway my fellas also like chicken giblets which i can get at the supermarket. i get lots of bones from there as they have a petfood/off cuts section and i just get whatever random bones i feel like. the butcher is awesome too, usually cheaper and you can usually request certain parts.
  22. i give my chihuahuas all types of bones chicken necks, chicken wings, turkey necks when we can get them, lamb flaps, all sorts of lamb and beef offcuts, lamb necks etc i give them marrow bones, cartliage, anything takes a while for the marrow bones but they have fun ETA - lamb is quite fattening so not too much unless you think she is underweight
  23. Hello groomies My smooth coat chihuahua Arnie has hair growing between his pads on the bottom of his paws. It's about 5mm long and between each "toe print" of each paw. Its hair growing down between his toes. My other smooth coat does not have this at all. Is this normal? Can it cause infections or other problems? Should I trim it? If so, how? Iv never seen a short haired dog with hair growing this long in this place. I asked the chihuahua breed sub forum and only the long coats have this, not the smooths. Does anyone else have a short haired breed with this? Thankyou
  24. No, they don't ALL do it. Some dogs are poop eaters, most aren't. Shit Zu (hehe) lover was referring to all breeds do it, it's not just little dogs etc. Not all dogs, but all breeds. Unfortunately I'm away 9 hrs of the day so can't monitor pooh consumption for that time but pooh patrol is done twice a day and Arnie is reprimanded when I do catch him. Luckily Mort ate it once and clearly didnt like the taste so has never done it again. Arnie however will choose to eat pooh over roast chook.
